Chapter 1440: Chapter 1440: He Can’t Bear This Responsibility

Didn’t he also get punched just now? I didn’t see him being punched so hard that he couldn’t even stand up.

Yet Matthew Saxon remained still. Knox Simmons glanced down and noticed his face seemed to have turned pale, and cold sweat appeared on his forehead.

At first, Knox thought Matthew was scheming something, acting out for him to see. But as he looked closer, he sensed something was off.

Matthew didn’t seem to be pretending.

He had overlooked one thing: Matthew, being such a proud person, would never use something that tarnishes his image as part of his schemes.

Getting punched so hard he can’t even get up - that’s a complete image-damaging situation, something Matthew Saxon would never do.

After pausing for a moment, Knox felt a bit flustered and squatted down, nudging Matthew’s body: "Matthew, what’s wrong?"

Now closer, he heard Matthew suppressing groans of pain, as if he’d reached the extreme of agony, forcing it down with sheer will.

Looking again, Matthew’s face wasn’t just pale; it was ashen, losing all color in an instant, with sweat pouring from his forehead, soaking his entire face and even dampening the hair on his forehead.

This time, Knox was truly scared: "Matthew, what’s wrong?"

Could it be... that punch hit somewhere critical?

Matthew was pale from pain; Knox was also pale from fright, thinking everything stemmed from that punch, his anger and confusion vanished.

Matthew was in so much pain that he couldn’t speak, only raised his head slightly, giving Knox a glance as sweat dripped from his forehead.

--

Knox never imagined, even in his dreams, that his punch would lead to such severe consequences.

Back at the Simmons Family, they both fought harder and fiercer, Matthew took several punches from him, yet was fine back then.

How could he suddenly become so fragile?

The red Ferrari sped towards Saint Mercy Hospital.

Knox occasionally glanced up at the rearview mirror, constantly checking the situation in the back seat.

Matthew suddenly became like this, truly frightening him, shocking him. Even now, he yet hadn’t recovered from the shock.

From the rearview mirror, Matthew still hadn’t recovered, lying still like a dead fish, eyes closed, face pale like a corpse, no trace of blood visible.

Cold sweat continued to ooze from his forehead, drenching his hair as if he’d washed it without drying.

Knox increased the car speed, fearing Matthew might suffer some mishap.

This responsibility was one he couldn’t bear.

He felt truly unlucky; despite being beaten so harshly by Matthew, besides minor surface injuries, he had no other issues.

Yet that punch he threw, how did it turn out so severe?

Just as they neared Saint Mercy Hospital, Scarlett Yates called.

Seeing that familiar number flashing on his phone screen, Knox felt inexplicably guilty, letting it ring a few times before picking up with his Bluetooth headset.

"Eldest Young Master Simmons, what are you doing? Why haven’t you come over yet? We’ve been waiting for you so long. Did you get scared because I said we’re going to Jade Court?" came another woman’s voice from Scarlett’s phone.
