Chapter 1526: Chapter 1526: Her Heart Ached Terribly
The porridge was a plain white porridge bought from the cafeteria, which naturally couldn’t compare to the abalone porridge or the bird’s nest porridge made by the Saxon Family’s chef. However, given Matthew Saxon’s current physical condition, it’s best for him to eat something light like this plain porridge; too much nourishment might not be good.
Scarlett Yates carried a box of porridge to the hospital room, but she didn’t go in right away.
The door to the hospital room was partially open.
From where she stood, she could see Matthew Saxon.
She stopped outside, peering in through the crack of the partially open door.
Matthew Saxon lay on the hospital bed, facing the other way, and all she could see was his handsome yet pale profile.
He seemed to be gazing out the window.
The window was open, and sunlight streamed in from outside, spilling onto the windowsill where several pots of flowers stood. Fresh green leaves had sprouted on the branches, appearing vibrant and full of life.
In contrast to the lively flowers on the balcony, Matthew Saxon’s pale face looked devoid of vitality, appearing extremely lifeless.
Even though Scarlett could only see his profile, she could sense a very low spirit surrounding him.
Matthew Saxon stared out the window for a long, long time, and Scarlett stood outside watching him for equally long.
For some reason, she suddenly felt like crying.
Looking at Matthew in that state made her feel both sad and pained.
Now that he knew the results of the examination, this kind of blow was probably more devastating to him than receiving his death notice.
She stood outside for about four minutes, or maybe a little longer?
From beginning to end, Matthew Saxon never noticed someone standing outside, as if he was lost in thought, remaining completely still.
Scarlett Yates sighed softly, blinking back the tears that had gathered, and gently knocked on the door.
She tapped lightly three times and then pushed the door open to walk inside.
Matthew Saxon slowly turned his head.
His gaze was cold and wooden as he looked at Scarlett Yates, with a hint of self-mockery and melancholy.
The more Scarlett looked, the sadder she felt. Step by step, she slowly walked over, and despite her heavy heart, she forced a smile from the corner of her lips: "Hayes Simmons said I could come over for a while, so here I am. I brought you some porridge; would you like to eat a little?"
As she spoke, she lifted the food box in her hand to show him: "It’s just some plain porridge, perhaps too bland, but plain porridge is quite good for the stomach. It’s the most suitable thing for you to eat right now."
A trace of warmth emerged from Matthew Saxon’s clear, indifferent eyes. The moment his gaze met hers, his eyes softened significantly, as if the icy facade was melting, and his lips curled slightly: "Mm, I’m just a bit hungry. You bought porridge for me, and right now, I don’t want to eat anything else; I just want something light like porridge."
"This porridge has gotten a bit cold. Let me heat it up for you first." Seeing him smile, she felt a sharp pang of heartache, and the tears she had just held back surged up from the bottom of her eyes, wetting them again in the blink of an eye.
At this moment, Matthew Saxon probably didn’t have the appetite to eat.
He was likely saying this to take care of her feelings.
Thinking about this made Scarlett Yates even sadder.
At times like this, the person who most needed emotional care, was actually him, wasn’t it? Yet now, he seemed like someone unaffected.
But how could he really not be affected at all?
