Chapter 1527: Chapter 1527: He Actually Used This to Threaten Her
His silence, as if nothing had happened, only made her more worried.
Bad emotions, when bottled up for too long, only worsen one’s mood.
"Wait a moment." Scarlett Yates first set down her bag, then took the food container to the kitchen to heat the porridge in the microwave.
When she brought the heated porridge over, Matthew Saxon raised an eyebrow, looked at the food container in her hand, and smiled, "Only one portion? What about yours?"
"I’m not hungry." Scarlett sat down, took out a small bowl, served the porridge into it, and then handed it to him.
Matthew glanced down without taking it. His eyes, dark and deep like gems of the sea, sparkled with a beautiful, intoxicating glow. "It’s a lot; I can’t finish it all by myself. How about we split it?"
"Huh?"
Matthew smiled again, curling his lips, "I’ll have a bite, and you have a bite too."
With that, he reached out to take the small bowl, scooped a spoonful, and ate it. Then he scooped another spoonful and put it to Scarlett’s mouth, "You eat too."
Scarlett hesitated, feeling as if their roles were reversed.
Matthew was the patient, the one who needed care, so how come he was now feeding her?
"I’ll just do it myself." She felt rather embarrassed; after all, was it right to let the patient feed her?
Matthew didn’t move his hand, just slightly furrowed his brows, looking dissatisfied: "Am I an outsider? Do you have to be so distant? Hurry up, my hand’s getting sore."
Scarlett had no choice but to eat with a thick skin.
After eating, her face felt slightly warm.
Sharing a spoon, in a way, was like an indirect kiss.
No, no, why was she thinking of all this nonsense now? Was this the time to think of such things?
She gently shook her head, trying to clear those romantic images from her mind.
Matthew took another spoonful of porridge, then surprisingly praised, "This porridge is pretty good. Where did you buy it?"
"From the hospital canteen," Scarlett admitted truthfully. "I originally wanted Olly to ask the kitchen to make some porridge, but that would take too long. Hayes Simmons said I could only stay for an hour, and then you need to rest, so... just make do with this."
Watching Matthew remain nonchalant, with a smile on his face, Scarlett felt increasingly saddened. A sour, bitter feeling overwhelmed her, and her eyes became moistened, always on the verge of tears.
The more he acted as if nothing mattered, the more indifferent he seemed, the more her heart ached for him.
From her knowledge of Matthew, his abnormal behavior hinted that his mood was at its worst.
But he was too proud.
Even in front of her, he refused to show his true emotions.
He stirred the porridge with the spoon, curled his lips into a smile, "Looks like Saint Mercy Canteen’s cooking isn’t bad. This porridge is both rich and fragrant, not worse than homemade. Scarlett, you should eat more; look how skinny you’ve become."
He brought a spoonful of porridge to Scarlett’s mouth again.
"I’m really not hungry."
"Hmm? If that’s the case, then I won’t eat either." He actually used that to threaten her.
Scarlett paused briefly, then immediately changed her mind, "Seems like I’m a little hungry after all."
