Though she was the one that had released them, it didn’t seem like Ye Qing Huan was completely assured in letting them go off on their own.
So that was why Lin Fan had to follow Ye Qing Huan around the Dao Sect, watching over the ghosts.
The disciples of the Five Great Sects had made contact with the ghosts and it looked like they were trying to get something out of them. But in most cases, it really didn’t look like the ghosts cared about the disciples no matter how they tried to approach them.
These ghosts were disciples of the Dao Sect, so it wasn’t as if they were normal ghosts to begin with. The amount of experience that they possessed was greater than what these disciples of the Five Great Sects had.
So it wasn’t as if they would be able to trick them with fancy words.
Out of all the ones that approached the ghosts, the only ones that were able to make contact with them were the ones that treated the ghosts with sincerity.
In this case, it meant telling them things about the outside world.
The ghosts of the Dao Sect disciples had been stuck in these ruins for a long time and even then, they had been trapped inside of the dorms. So they didn’t know anything about what happened outside of the dorms.
For these ghosts, they were very curious about all the changes that happened outside of the ruins during this time.
Once the disciples told them about what the outside world was like, the ghosts actually said that they would reward them before leading them to certain places in the Dao Sect ruins.
The ones that Lin Fan’s group was following was one of those ghosts.
"Are you sure about this? Do you really think that they’ll be able to give us anything special?"
It was only natural that they would have their doubts that the ghosts would be able to lead them to anything that was actually useful.
After all, there wasn’t anything that seemed special about the places that they were heading and the ghosts seemed very strange in the first place.
Seeing this, Ye Qing Huan narrowed her eyes.
Lin Fan couldn’t help shaking his head with a faint smile since he felt that Ye Qing Huan was acting like a parent that was secretly following a child on their first errand.
But the more that he saw Ye Qing Huan like this, even Lin Fan couldn’t help feeling a bit worried.
"Why are you acting this way?" Lin Fan asked all of a sudden.
"He asked me to take care of them, so I’m doing that."
Lin Fan was completely caught off guard when he heard this, but he didn’t say anything as he watched the disciples following behind the ghosts. He didn’t know what would happen when they arrived at their destination, but he had an idea.
After all, he knew that the place that the ghost was leading them wasn’t considered a special place.
If it was, it would have been marked on his map.
So the things that the ghost was planning to offer these disciples wouldn’t be considered anything special. If that was the case, would the disciples even want this thing?
If that was the case, would the disciples lose control and attack because they thought they were being mistreated?
For now, Lin Fan just had to watch over this to see what would happen between the ghost and the disciples.
But there was a part of Lin Fan that felt a bit awkward because of all of this.
If Ye Qing Huan were to treat these ghosts as kids, didn’t that mean that they would also be his kids?
It would mean that he had just adopted a bunch of kids that were much older than him.
This really wasn’t something that he wanted to do.
With the ghost leading the way, it didn’t take long for them to arrive at their destination.
This place was just one of the normal buildings of the Dao Sect, so it wasn’t as if there was anything here that stood out. The disciples could also see this, so the doubt on their faces became even stronger.
It really seemed like they were contemplating attacking the ghost because of this.
Whether it was because they were being led into a trap or if they could gain something greater from attacking the ghost, it was clear that they didn’t think that they had anything to lose.
But if they were to do this, there was no telling what Ye Qing Huan would do.
The only thing that Lin Fan could hope for was that everything would end without causing too much trouble.
In the end, it turned out that he had been worried for nothing.
The ghost led them into the building and showed them the thing that it wanted to give them. The moment that they saw this, they immediately stopped their idea of wanting to attack.
"This is something that I used when I was still alive. I’m not sure if it’ll be useful to you, but I hope you’ll take it."
It was a sword that the ghost was offering them, but the aura that came from it wasn’t normal.
In fact, it was better than any of the weapons that the disciples were currently using.
This was certainly a special weapon if it was compared to their weapons, but it wasn’t even considered a powerful weapon in the Dao Sect. For Lin Fan who had experienced the level that the Dao Sect was at, he had a very good idea of what the top grade weapons were like.
But for the disciples, something of this level was more than enough to satisfy them.
"Are they really satisfied with just this?" Lin Fan couldn’t help wondering when he saw them acting like this, but then he realized something.
There were two things that were actually contributing to this situation.
First, it was the fact that the Dao Sect was on a higher level than the Five Great Sects.
The Five Great Sects were powerful sects, but they were still a level below the Dao Sect. Which meant that normal weapons for the Dao Sect would be considered special weapons for the Five Great Sects.
The second thing was actually the more important one.
Because of what Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan did before, most of the powerful disciples of the Five Great Sects were being detained by the pavilion that had been opened. The ones that were going around looking for the ghosts were the ones that couldn’t really do anything in that pavilion.
They were considered the second tier core disciples.
They were still core disciples, but they just simply weren’t on the same level as the top core disciples. As such, it really was easy for them to be satisfied with the things that the ghost offered.
It especially helped since the ghost gave them more than one thing.
If it was just a single sword, then it would have meant that they would have fought each other over it. After all, it wasn’t just a single disciple that had gone along with the ghost.
They mostly moved in groups since they were weak to begin with, so it wasn’t as if they could be satisfied with just one item.
With this settled, it didn’t seem like they were going to do anything to harm the ghost.
It even seemed like they were buttering up to the ghost to see if there was anything else that they could gain from it. However, it didn’t matter what they did to try and get closer to the ghost.
Ye Qing Huan had made sure that the ghosts wouldn’t be able to say anything that they shouldn’t say.
Though in the first place, it wasn’t as if the ghosts would do anything like that.
Even though they had been sealed for that long, it wasn’t as if their minds were completely gone and they knew what they should and shouldn’t do. Which was why there really was no worry that they would leak anything important.
"Well, you’ve seen how it went. I don’t think there’s anything else you need to verify, right?" Lin Fan tentatively asked Ye Qing Huan this.
He wasn’t certain when he asked this since he could still see the expression on Ye Qing Huan’s face.
In the end, Ye Qing Huan didn’t say anything as she led them in a different direction.
Ye Qing Huan knew exactly where she was going with how she moved, so Lin Fan had no choice but to follow her. As he expected, she led them to where another group was moving with another ghost.
It was the same thing as before where they followed the group until they received their reward.
Then it was the same ending where the disciples were satisfied with the reward before trying to get closer to the ghost.
It didn’t matter how many they followed, it always ended the same.
"Are you satisfied now?" Lin Fan asked without really expecting an answer.
After all, he could already tell what Ye Qing Huan was thinking.
With the time that he spent with her, it would have been strange if he wasn’t able to figure out what she was thinking. Though there were still times that he couldn’t see through her at all.
So instead of asking her anything else, he turned to Xiao Mu to ask, "Have you prepared the next target?"
