Chapter 205: Chapter 138: Gold vs. Gold, a Hopeless Gap
According to the terms of the challenge, he only needed to announce the outcome of the duel.
However, not only did he announce the result, he also revealed the details of the fight.
One move!
The Chimera Knight was quite frank, publicly announcing the details of how Roy had defeated him with just a single move.
As expected, "Red-haired" Shanks once again became the talk of the town.
「Inside the Royal Palace.」
「The King’s Study.」
Edward III, the current King of the Sal Empire, sat in a high-backed chair behind his desk, listening intently to the Minister of Finance’s quarterly report.
Compared to his predecessors, Edward III wasn’t exceptional, but he wasn’t terrible either.
His Cultivation Talent wasn’t remarkable, and his political acumen was merely average.
He did have his strengths, however.
He was diligent and down-to-earth.
If his Cultivation Talent was lacking, he would simply dedicate more time and energy to his Cultivation.
If his political skills were average, he would appoint exceptional ministers and sincerely listen to their counsel.
Take this very moment, for example.
It was currently lunchtime, and he could have easily broken for a meal, then returned in the afternoon to continue hearing the Minister of Finance’s report.
But he did not.
He was determined not to leave the study until he had heard the entire report and settled on a financial plan for the next quarter with his minister.
A meal could wait; the financial plan for the coming quarter could not.
It concerned the Empire’s development, a matter infinitely more important than lunch.
Just as the Minister of Finance was about to conclude his report on the previous quarter, a knock echoed at the door.
Hearing the knock, Edward III immediately furrowed his brow.
After ascending the throne, he had issued a strict order: no one was to disturb him while he was attending to matters of state, unless it was something of great importance.
"Come in!"
Edward III said sharply.
The great golden doors to the study swung open, revealing an elderly man in a white robe. Though his hair and beard were white and his face was covered in wrinkles, he was full of vigor.
Upon seeing him, Edward III immediately rose, went to the old man, and gave him a slight bow.
This white-robed old man was none other than the Imperial Guardian, David Hammel.
"Greetings, Lord Guardian!"
Edward III and the Minister of Finance said in unison.
"Your Majesty is too kind,"
David Hammel replied slowly.
"It is as it should be."
With that, Edward III turned to the Minister of Finance. "Orlando, please step outside and wait for a moment. I will call for you shortly."
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Without the slightest hesitation, Orlando, the Minister of Finance, left the study.
Once the study doors were closed again, Edward III immediately asked, "Lord Guardian, for you to come see me personally, has something major occurred?"
David Hammel said slowly, "The Chimera Knight has lost. ’Red-haired’ Shanks defeated him in a single move."
’What?’
An expression of utter disbelief crossed Edward III’s face.
His own Cultivation Talent might not be impressive, but he knew very well how strong the Chimera Knight was.
In terms of rankings alone, the Chimera Knight was second, just below the Ashen Knight, who was the commander of the Royal Knight Order.
However, the difference in their strength wasn’t significant.
The Ashen Knight himself had once told Edward III that if he and the Chimera Knight were to fight to the death, it would most likely end in their mutual destruction.
"Lord Guardian, where did you hear this news?"
Edward III asked immediately.
"The Chimera Knight personally announced his loss to Shanks. The news is already spreading like wildfire outside,"
David Hammel said, his tone unhurried.
"Then, Lord Guardian, have you come to me now because you wish for me to grant Shanks the title of Duke?"
Edward III continued.
"No. I simply wish for Your Majesty to invite him to my tower tomorrow at noon."
"As for whether to grant him the title of Duke, let us decide after I have met with him."
As the Imperial Guardian, David Hammel didn’t reside elsewhere; he lived within the Kingdom itself.
More precisely, he resided within a high tower inside the Royal Palace, known as the Guardian Tower.
"Of course. I will have someone notify him at once."
Edward III replied at once, without any hesitation.
