Chapter 101: Chapter 93: Magic Staff Upgrade Ideas and 2 Years

Exposed, the black-robed person flew into a humiliated rage and launched an attack on Chen Shang!

In an instant, streaks of blood snakes that had been lurking for a long time drilled out from the crevices of the rock walls in all directions at blinding speed.

But through the vision of the Eye of True Sight, the trajectories of the blood snakes were laughably crude, shooting straight forward with almost no changes in direction.

Chen Shang slightly raised his left hand. One-Element Heavy Water surged from the surface of his skin, silently condensing into a palm-sized Water Shield half a foot in front of him.

The Water Shield was as thin as a cicada’s wing. A pale blue light flared brilliantly the moment the dark red energy struck it, colliding with the blood snakes.

The surface of the One-Element Heavy Water merely rippled slightly before swallowing the dark red energy whole. The energy struggled madly inside the Water Shield before rapidly dissipating.

The Water Shield returned to calm, reverting into a water film that clung back to the surface of Chen Shang’s skin.

Chen Shang’s eyes flickered. His Eye of True Sight had already completed its analysis the moment the attack hit the Water Shield:

Attack Power: between three hundred and twenty and three hundred and eighty. It belonged to the base stats of someone who had just stepped into the realm of a Third Level Apprentice, but without the leveraging effect to double it.

Elemental form: not pure energy, but a hybrid forcibly compressed by some external force, tainted with a corrupted element.

Energy Core: unstable, like a heavily overclocked machine that could fall apart at any moment.

His gaze swept in the direction the attack came from, staring straight at the dark red Energy Core. He said with interest, "Did you make this modification yourself? Where did you get the knowledge? Hand it over, and I’ll let you go."

The legacy this black-robed person had obtained was clearly incomplete, but Chen Shang was still quite interested in the foundational knowledge of constructing an Energy Core.

A Second Level Wizard Apprentice threatening a native with the stats of a Third Level Apprentice wasn’t actually out of place at all. Who told this black-robed person not to know how to leverage Elemental Power?

Chen Shang’s own base Attack Power was only around several tens to just over a hundred, but the leverage multiplier of the Samadhi True Flame alone would far exceed his opponent’s attack.

"Such a... rather familiar arrogant attitude!" The black-robed person scoffed dismissively.

"Oh? So you’ve met other Wizard Apprentices?" Chen Shang condensed the One-Element Heavy Water from a film into a palm-sized water bird, letting it quietly flap its wings on his shoulder in a relaxed posture.

He was applying pressure on the other party.

"Since you’re unwilling to cooperate, I’ll just have to capture you and interrogate you properly." He reached out a hand, and a cyan-white Wind Blade silently slashed out from his palm.

The speed of the Wind Blade was much faster than the dark red energy, and it didn’t travel in a straight line. It carved an arc in the air, looping around the black-robed person’s left side and coming back from behind, sealing off his path of retreat.

The black-robed person jerked to the side. The Wind Blade grazed past his shoulder, leaving a deep gash on the rock wall.

But his reaction also exceeded Chen Shang’s anticipation. While dodging, he simultaneously pushed out two dark red Energy Balls with both hands. One flew straight for Chen Shang’s face, while the other took a low trajectory, skimming across the ground toward his ankles.

Chen Shang tapped his left foot lightly. One-Element Heavy Water surged from beneath his sole, spreading a thin water film across the ground.

The low-trajectory Energy Ball struck the water film and skidded off, deflecting and smashing into the adjacent rock wall, exploding into a cloud of dark red smoke.

As for the high one, he didn’t even bother to block it. He merely tilted his head. The Energy Ball grazed past his ear, singeing a few strands of hair.

"To think you actually have the spare energy to counterattack?"

Chen Shang’s Eye of True Sight was constantly active. He was observing every beat of the black-robed person’s Energy Core, every trace of energy flowing out from the core, and the complete path of it ultimately condensing into an attack.

In his vision, the core’s beating frequency was accelerating, its cracks were expanding, and the dark red light was growing brighter and brighter.

The black-robed person had obtained a larger mobilization of energy, but the core was on the verge of collapsing.

"A friendly reminder: every time you draw upon your energy, you are consuming the lifespan of the Energy Core itself, and naturally, your own life as well.

"So, I advise you to stop struggling. I’m willing to follow the rules of the Pan-Wizard Alliance and treat prisoners of war leniently... Of course, that’s provided you haven’t done anything deranged and honestly cooperate with me..."

Hearing Chen Shang’s incessant chattering, the black-robed person became even more frenzied.

"Bastard, who do you think you are? Do you think I’m some coward who’d surrender without a fight just by hearing the word ’Wizard’?"

Obviously, Chen Shang treating him as prey had enraged the black-robed person. Dark red Energy Balls hurled toward Chen Shang from all directions like a torrential downpour, moving twice as fast.

However, the accuracy was still remarkably poor. Chen Shang didn’t even need to use the Eye of True Sight to predict them; with his naked eye alone, he could tell that more than half of those Energy Balls would miss.

The water bird formed from his One-Element Heavy Water nimbly darted through the air, precisely intercepting the slightly better-aimed attacks. As for the ones that missed, he didn’t even spare them a glance, letting them crash into the rock walls on their own and explode into clusters of dark red fireworks.

The black-robed person’s breathing began to grow ragged.

His Energy Core was already glaringly bright. The cracks spread from the core’s surface into the surrounding muscle tissues, with dark red light shining through the gaps in his muscles. He almost resembled Surtr.

Furthermore, his attack frequency was dropping, but the power of each strike was rising instead. His Attack Power surged from three hundred and eighty to four hundred and fifty, then from four hundred and fifty to five hundred.

He was overdrawing his limits, trading the lifespan of his core for momentary bursts of power.
