Chapter 108: Chapter 95: Precious Treasure and Inherited Witchcraft
The sixth step was Repulsive and Attractive Transformation. Building upon Power Level Control, it required learning to convert Repulsive Force into Gravity and vice versa, ensuring no Energy was lost during the transformation process. Only after completing these six steps and constructing an Energy model of the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force in the Sea of Consciousness could one be considered to have grasped the basics of this Witchcraft.
From perception to manipulation, from single force to dual force, from stabilization to control, from control to transformation, and finally to model construction—each step was a massive hurdle. Every single phase had thwarted countless Wizard Apprentices. Even Official Wizards found them difficult to complete.
Chen Shang read the introductory theory of the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force several times over. The more he read, the more he felt this wasn’t meant for Ordinary people.
To put it plainly, Force Touch Perception was a talent for Force Field Perception. Some people were born with Fire Element Affinity, some were sensitive to the Water Element, some could achieve Mechanical Resonance, and others had an innate intuition for Soul Fluctuations. However, when it came to Force Fields—a foundational Law derived from pure mass, where Repulsive Force and Gravity existed everywhere yet invisibly between stars, Planes, and all living things—very few possessed an Affinity for them.
Starfall Laboratory took in anywhere from thousands to tens of thousands of Apprentices each year, but those who could complete Force Touch Perception could be counted on one hand. Sometimes, the number was a flat zero. It wasn’t for a lack of effort; they genuinely couldn’t feel it. It was like asking a blind man to identify a fine painting.
Chen Shang put down the Crystal Plate and sighed. He had no talent related to Force Field Affinity.
He had already tried the methods outlined in the guide, pushing his Spiritual Power to the absolute limit in an attempt to capture that sensation of "pushing" and "pulling" in the air. Several Hourglasses of time later, he had opened his eyes. He hadn’t felt a thing.
With the Gravity Crystal clutched in his palm, he could feel its temperature, its weight, and the fine textures on its surface, but he couldn’t sense even a trace of Gravity. In his hands, the thing was just an Ordinary stone, albeit a rather pretty one.
Of course, the guide also listed two shortcuts.
The first was to find certain treasures containing the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force and fuse them into one’s own body. These treasures weren’t merely perception aids like the Gravity Crystal; they were rare Materials that inherently carried the Law of Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force, such as a Star Core Fragment or a Void Eye Crystal.
Chen Shang had searched for them on the trading platform. The moment he saw the prices, he closed the page. Those were costs he absolutely could not afford. Furthermore, the fusion method itself was a Secret Technique, which he had no way of acquiring. Even if he managed to get his hands on it, the slightest error during the fusion process could cause irreversible damage. A minor mistake would lead to chaotic Spiritual Power, while a severe one could cause his Magic Spring to collapse entirely.
He had his own Mythical trait; there was no need to gamble his future on this.
The second method was to engage in Cultivation in a special Space within Starfall Laboratory called Nebula Plaza. This was a special Space created long ago by a certain Great Wizard of the laboratory. It was located between the Main Plane and a Half-Plane, resting precisely on the most delicate balance point of the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force field.
There, the weak forces normally masked by the world itself would be magnified and made perceptible. A trace of Repulsive Force that might take a month to sense in the laboratory could perhaps be felt in just one day there. Moreover, it was open to everyone for free.
This detail alone made it clear that the Wizards of Starfall Laboratory hoped more Apprentices could master the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force, enabling them to Cultivate the Star Force Field series of Witchcraft. Even so, the number of Apprentices who succeeded each year remained abysmally low. It wasn’t that the location was lacking; it was simply that the requirements were far too harsh.
Chen Shang stored the Gravity Crystal back into his Space Book and submitted an application. The system automatically verified his base stats: Constitution 112, Spirit 102, Magic Power 257. All three dimensions exceeded one hundred, meeting the standard.
The approval notification arrived almost instantly, accompanied by teleportation privileges for Nebula Plaza and a usage guide. Chen Shang read through it as he headed toward the Teleportation Gate.
At the Teleportation Gate, a First Level Wizard was calibrating Runes. "Apprentices cannot pass through this Teleportation Gate alone. I’ll take you there."
The Wizard verified Chen Shang’s information on a Crystal Plate before activating the Teleportation Gate. The gate was smaller than any Teleportation Gate Chen Shang had ever seen, only wide enough for one person to pass through. The frame was also different from those he had encountered before, made of some material that emitted a silver-gray glow.
"Go in," the First Level Wizard said.
Chen Shang stepped into the gate, and in an instant, the world spun wildly around him. He felt a continuous sense of weightlessness, as if something were pulling at him from all directions. His eyes rolled wildly in their sockets, and his eardrums buzzed. He took a deep breath and spread his Spiritual Power throughout his entire body, barely managing to steady himself.
The First Level Wizard caught his arm to keep him upright. "It’s always like this the first time. You’ll gradually get used to it."
Once Chen Shang regained his footing, he panted heavily and asked, "Will it be stable next time?"
"No, you’ll just get used to it."
Behind him, the Teleportation Gate closed silently. The entire door began to dissipate from the frame inward, melting away like ice. The frame turned into silver-gray motes of light, while the door panel dissolved into a black mist. Finally, everything condensed into a pea-sized speck of light that drifted into the depths of the Void and vanished.
Standing on a platform suspended in the Void, Chen Shang watched the point of light drift further and further away, completely bewildered. "What is this? How do we get back if the Teleportation Gate has disappeared?"
The First Level Wizard explained, "This is not a fixed location; it drifts through the Void. The Teleportation Gate will reappear at the exact same coordinates every six Hourglasses of time. If you miss the return window, you’ll have to wait for the next cycle.
"Alright, I won’t disturb you any longer. Work hard, kid!"
