Chapter 107: Chapter 95: Precious Treasure and Inherited Witchcraft
The sea of clouds surged below, and the stars rotated overhead. Chen Shang’s refusal did not surprise the Dragon Emperor.
He knew the pros and cons of the Soul Contract all too well. For Chen Shang, he would indeed enjoy the benefits of Princess Di Long’s strength in the early stages, such as enhancements to his Constitution, lifespan, and even Spiritual Power recovery speed.
However, in the later stages, when his strength surpassed Princess Di Long’s growth rate, this contract would turn from an asset into a burden.
Chen Shang clearly did not want to add any obstacles for himself. The Dragon Emperor understood this reasoning.
Thus, He settled for the next best thing. "Then, how about signing an agreement with the Wizard’s Will as a witness?"
Chen Shang’s eyes lit up slightly. A contract witnessed by the Wizard’s Will was also quite secure. Although it lacked the intimacy of a Soul Contract and did not allow for strength-sharing with a contract partner, it likewise came with no restrictions.
This way, it would only count as a certain level of cooperation between the two parties, without any personal repercussions.
"That works," Chen Shang nodded.
The Dragon Emperor said no more. Without any visible movement from Him, a massive claw tip appeared in the void and tapped the air.
Golden ripples of light spread out from the claw tip, coalescing mid-air into an enormous contract. The text was bilingual, written in both Draconic and the Wizard Common Language. The terms were clear and straight to the point.
Chen Shang quickly scanned it with his Eye of True Sight. The terms were very lenient. The agreement established cooperation between the two parties: Ithirandir would provide assistance to Chen Shang, and in return, once Chen Shang possessed the capability, he would stabilize her bloodline and attempt further developments for it.
In truth, there was little chance of any traps. After all, what the Dragon Emperor wanted was a fully grown Chen Shang. More importantly, He absolutely could not fool the Wizard’s Will.
Thus, Chen Shang reached out and pressed his hand on the signature line of the contract. The document dissolved into countless fine, golden specks of light and dissipated into the air of the Divine Kingdom.
The Dragon Emperor retracted His front claw. The mist churned for a few moments before settling down.
A few breaths later, a Crystal Core the size of a fist slowly floated out of the mist and hovered in front of Chen Shang.
The Crystal Core was a translucent silver-gray. Inside, countless fine specks of light flowed sluggishly—like stars, like grains of sand, like some sort of solidified nebula.
It radiated no heat and released no energy. It merely hovered quietly, like a dead star forgotten in a corner of the universe.
"What is this?" Chen Shang observed it with his Eye of True Sight but couldn’t draw any conclusions. Opening his interface yielded no reaction either.
"The people of your Starfall Laboratory generally call it a Gravity Crystal," the Dragon Emperor’s voice seemed to echo from the distant void.
"This is something born when a star annihilates in the void. It is not a high-quality Alchemy Material, nor does it possess any other special effects. To most Wizards, it is completely useless.
"However, to an Apprentice of the Starfall Laboratory, it is considered a great treasure, because it can help you achieve Force Touch Perception."
Force Touch Perception? Chen Shang frowned slightly. This seemed to be the first threshold for the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force, which he hadn’t yet studied in detail.
He then grasped the Gravity Crystal in his hand. It was slightly cool to the touch. Contrary to the heaviness he had imagined, it was extremely light, like holding a clump of solidified air.
Chen Shang bowed slightly toward the Dragon Emperor. "Thank you, Your Majesty."
"Consider this my investment. I hope you master the Star Force Field series witchcraft as soon as possible and advance to become a true Wizard!"
Leaving these words behind, the Dragon Emperor vanished into thin air.
As Chen Shang was about to depart, Ithirandir came to see him off. "Chen, I’m going to sleep for a while again. Father said he signed a contract with you. When I wake up, I’ll go find you to play."
"No problem!"
Back at the laboratory, Chen Shang placed the Gravity Crystal on the Recording Platform. He turned it over and over, studying it several times, but found no clues. Thus, he turned on his Crystal Plate and began to look up detailed information on the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force.
The Starfall Laboratory’s internal database contained a complete cultivation guide, and it was open to everyone. He flipped to the Star Force Field section and slowly immersed himself in it.
Strictly speaking, the Star Force Field was a research project encompassing multiple forms of High-tier Witchcraft. The Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force was merely the most basic among them, serving as foundational witchcraft.
But even this basic witchcraft had six prerequisite thresholds.
First was achieving Force Touch Perception. The specific requirement was to perceive the omnipresent "pushing sensation" and "pulling sensation" within the Star Sea, and to be able to clearly distinguish their directions and sources.
There weren’t many shortcuts for this step; it relied entirely on talent and comprehension. Some people could grasp the basics in a few days, while others couldn’t even touch the threshold after several years.
The second and third steps were grouped together, known as Micro-Repulsive Guidance and Micro-Attractor.
The former involved attempting to guide a trace of extremely faint Repulsive Force using Spiritual Power—building upon the ability to perceive it—and allowing it to condense in the palm of the hand. It did not pursue strength, only mastery.
The latter followed the same principle: condensing Gravity out of the void and attaching it to an extremely light object. Being able to pull a feather to prevent it from drifting away was considered passing the threshold.
The fourth step was Dual Force Anchoring. The difficulty leaped at this stage. It required simultaneously manipulating both Repulsive Force and Gravity, ensuring they did not interfere with one another and stably existed in their respective spatial positions.
Because Repulsive Force and Gravity were essentially different manifestations of the same power, they would cancel each other out upon the slightest lapse in attention.
The fifth step was establishing Power Level Control. Building upon Anchoring, this involved learning to adjust the intensity of the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force.
In layman’s terms, it was like using a lever: employing a small amount of Spiritual Power to pry loose a massive amount of Repulsive and Attractive Force. This step determined the upper limit of the Repulsive and Attractive Dual Force.
