Chapter 163: Chapter 113: You Finish Singing, I Take the Stage
Evelyn stood beside him and also saw the name. She teased with a smile, "This guy is fierce. Do you want me to lend you the Divine Sword? In exchange, you have to tell me how you found the flaw in Solem’s Defensive Witchcraft in such a short time."
"In your dreams," Chen Shang rolled his eyes. She wanted to pry out information about the Eye of Truth just by offering the use of a Divine Artifact? No way.
The second match began, and Chen Shang stepped onto the arena.
Across from him, Rex was not wearing a Wizard Robe, but a black Sleeveless Leather Armor that revealed two thick, scar-covered arms. His hair was shaved very short, and his entire build was extremely robust. As he walked onto the arena, every step was heavy. The grayish-white Stone Slab let out a dull THUD, sounding as if someone were striking the ground with a Stone Hammer.
This guy wasn’t fat, but his body density was immense. The density of his muscles, bones, and even his skin far exceeded that of an Ordinary person.
Chen Shang’s Eye of Truth swept over Rex’s body. He noticed that the muscle fibers were highly unusual. They seemed to have been reinforced by some kind of Rune, taking on a composite structure resembling twisted steel wires.
Rex stood in the center of the arena and stretched his body, emitting loud CRACKING noises. He looked at Chen Shang with a calm gaze, showing neither provocation nor underestimation.
"I’ve read your paper and watched your last match. Water-Fire Heaven Extremes, a twenty-fold leverage. Very impressive."
Hearing this, Chen Shang became alert. Although Rex was a Body Refining Wizard, there were no mere brutes who only relied on brute strength among Wizard Apprentices.
Sure enough, Rex continued, "But I have found a way to deal with you. You might want to consider surrendering, or it will be hard for me to hold back later."
Because this was an academic exchange battle rather than a life-and-death struggle, participants would exchange words outside of pure combat. However, surrender was out of the question, so Chen Shang simply responded, "Then I’ll wait and see."
At this moment, the referee raised the Crystal Plate. "Second round, Arena Fifteen. Chen Shang versus Rex. Begin!"
As the battle commenced, Chen Shang immediately created distance between himself and his opponent, attempting to condense the Water-Fire Heaven Extremes. Suppressing from afar with Witchcraft was the basic strategy when fighting a Body Refining Wizard.
Strangely, Rex did not immediately Charge to close the gap. Instead, he unhooked a fist-sized metal sphere from his waist. Its surface was densely engraved with Runes. He threw the sphere to the ground. It burst open, and a cloud of silver smoke billowed from the fragments, rapidly spreading across the entire arena.
The smoke wasn’t thick, resembling a thin veil, but Chen Shang’s Eye of Truth immediately detected an anomaly. Within the smoke were countless minuscule magnetic particles, so small they were almost invisible to the naked eye. They floated and spun in the air, attracting one another. It formed an invisible net, disrupting the normal flow of free Elements in the air!
The moment the Water-Fire Heaven Extremes formed in his hand, those magnetic particles surged over like iron filings attracted to a magnet, adhering to the surface of the Energy Ball. The Vortex instantly became highly unstable, and the friction frequency at the interface was completely scrambled by the particles. The Water-Fire Ball trembled violently in his palm a couple of times and then dissipated. It didn’t explode, but it failed to take shape.
Rex stood on the opposite side of the arena, his arms crossed as he watched Chen Shang.
"This is a magnetic interference field, specifically designed to counter Elemental Witchcraft. Your Water-Fire Heaven Extremes won’t last even half a second inside before detonating.
"If you try to force the spell, the chance of a backlash is extremely high," he said in a flat tone, merely stating a fact.
Chen Shang frowned slightly. This device was indeed highly targeted; it essentially created a miniature Forbidden Magic Domain specifically designed against the Elemental Witchcraft System. It wasn’t a complete magic block, but it was far more ruthless than a Forbidden Magic Domain. A Forbidden Magic Domain merely prevented one from casting Witchcraft, whereas this could cause the Witchcraft to blow up right in the caster’s hand.
A commotion arose in the spectator stands. Someone whispered, "What is that thing? I’ve never seen it before."
"A magnetic interference field... a device specifically targeting Elemental Witchcraft. It’s incredibly expensive. Rex really went all out for this match."
"Chen Shang is in deep trouble now. If he can’t use Water-Fire Heaven Extremes, his combat strength will be cut in half, at least."
Listening to the discussions, Baal leaned forward from his seat, staring at the arena nervously.
On the arena, Rex finally made his move. His Charge was much faster than Solem’s, carrying the crushing momentum of a hunting Barbaric Giant Beast. With every step he took, the Stone Slab shattered into a shallow pit, sending debris flying as he rapidly closed in on Chen Shang.
Chen Shang reached out his hand. One-Element Heavy Water surged from his Third Magic Spring, condensing into a thick Water Shield in front of him. The Samadhi True Flame and One-Element Heavy Water were housed within his Second and Third Magic Springs respectively. They could be mobilized directly, completely unhindered by the magnetic interference field.
Rex smashed a fist into the Water Shield, shattering it with ease. It burst from the center into countless tiny water droplets, while his fist didn’t even have a single red mark.
A second Water Shield quickly condensed, but the second punch broke through its Defense just as fast. A third shield, a third punch... Rex’s fists were like a pile driver, effortlessly smashing through every layer of Defense Chen Shang deployed, one after another. With a Constitution of one hundred and eighty-five points, his Power was great enough to tear apart Ordinary Defensive Witchcraft barehanded.
Chen Shang retreated continuously until he reached the edge of the arena, his back nearly pressing against the protective barrier.
Rex didn’t give him a moment to catch his breath. Lunging forward, he drove his right fist toward Chen Shang’s chest with a howling gust of wind. If this punch landed solidly, Chen Shang’s body would absolutely suffer severe trauma, and the impact would launch him out of the arena, resulting in his elimination.
Chen Shang dodged sideways, but Rex’s left fist immediately followed up. The right punch had been a feint; the left was the real strike. The speed was so astonishing that it completely defied the agility one would expect from a muscle-bound monster.
This was the combat style of an early-stage Body Refining Wizard—utilizing their Constitution advantage to unleash high-speed combinations, leaving their opponents unable to defend and dodge simultaneously. Under a flurry of combo punches, the opponent would either be struck or forced out of the arena.
