With one last mournful neigh, the unicorn was torn into pieces.

Having escaped with Selene and the cat through its shadow, Leon gave its remains a sorrowful look, then turned away.

His gaze fell on Mahir and Sara, who stood several meters away, holding a confused Merlin between them.

From the corners of the three cities, several Vaelari stepped out of their hiding, surrounding the two humans and the cat.

Leon ignored them, his focus on Mahir.

"Why?"

His voice echoed calmly, reaching the man who stared back at him indifferently.

Mahir shook his head. "You’re not one of us, and you can never be. Besides, I would never betray my race."

"D-Dad? What’s going on?" Merlin asked, shaken and confused.

From what he was seeing, it looked like his parents had suddenly betrayed his new friends. That wasn’t happening, right...?

Mahir looked at his son with a disappointed and sad expression. "I won’t blame you for trusting them. You’re still young, after all."

Sara nodded beside him. "Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to read our rules and regulations to you again until you start abiding by them."

"What?! No!" The boy resisted. "You definitely can’t do this! Why is everyone an enemy and not a—"

Not wanting to listen to his philosophical whining, Mahir knocked him unconscious and then got onto their unicorn, ready to leave.

Before he did, he looked at the Vaelari leading the ambush.

"Sir Awan, be careful."

The man in black armor nodded, his gaze fixed on Selene and Leon. "Leave it to us. The intel you provided is already enough."

Hearing that, Leon finally confirmed that Mahir hadn’t just been going out to hunt. He had been making reports too.

A soft sigh escaped his lips, and he looked at the people surrounding them.

’Ten Tier Twos and three Tier Threes,’ He thought with a frown. ’This is a tough lineup.’

He glanced at Selene. "Can you hold off those three for a while?"

For the first time in her life, Selene wasn’t completely confident.

However, she still didn’t back down. Without a change in expression, she nodded.

Meow!

The golden cat jumped down from her arms and bolted, escaping the ambush. The Vaelari warriors ignored it. After all, it was simply a mundane cat.

Leon watched it go with a smile that faded as soon as he turned to face the Vaelari.

Without another word, he took out the Titanbreaker Spear. Selene put on her horned helmet and unsheathed her sword.

"Now."

She moved, shooting straight at the three Vaelari in black armor. They were all Tier Three, and she would be fighting them until Leon could come and assist her in killing them.

The moment she moved, Leon did the same. He stepped through the shadows, appearing behind one of the other Tier Two Vaelari.

As if expecting it, the warrior wheeled around and slashed with his sword.

Clang!

Leon’s spear was blocked, but he managed to push the man back. The other nine immediately pounced on him.

Twirling his spear in his hand, Leon whispered, "Darkness Descent."

Instantly, they were all enveloped in a sphere of darkness.

The Vaelari were rendered blind, but they weren’t helpless. Their long ears weren’t long for nothing.

Their planet had been born long before it drifted close enough to be illuminated by the sun. Therefore, they had mutated and adapted to darkness, treating their hearing as a second kind of sight.

To them, the darkness barely changed a thing.

However, blinding them wasn’t Leon’s real target. Instead, it was gaining access to an infinite arsenal from the darkness around him.

At a thought, hundreds of shadow spears shot out from the ground, and the Vaelari had to defend against them.

Meanwhile, Selene and the three black-armored Vaelari finally clashed.

Clang! Bang! Bang!

She blocked the sword of the one standing before her and created thick ice shields on either side of herself to defend against the other two that tried to pincer her between them.

She barely held her ground against the swordsman, her eyes narrowing. However, she wasn’t at an immediate disadvantage. Taking advantage of that, she activated Frozen Steps and slipped out of their encirclement.

She couldn’t allow herself to be trapped between them.

Knowing that she was trying to avoid being pinned down, they all followed her. Waving her hand, she created four ice spikes and shot one at each person, leaving the last one still unused.

They all made moves to defend against her attack. The swordsman sliced through the ice spike, the hammer wielder simply smashed it apart, while the spearman dodged.

Selene’s eyes flashed coldly, and she shot the last ice spike at the spearman. Having just dodged one, he was surprised to find another coming at him.

He dodged again, only for him to suddenly have Selene right in his face. His eyes widened, and he slashed at her.

His spear tore through her body, and she shattered into ice fragments.

"Kelvin, behind you!"

Awan shouted, causing the man to spin around as fast as he could. Selene’s surprise attack failed, and she could only pull back to avoid being injured by the spear.

Kelvin stared at her, shaken. ’What a cunning woman...!’

He touched his neck and saw a bit of blood on his fingers.

The other two stopped beside him, staring at Selene in surprise. They hadn’t expected a Tier Two alien like her to be this dangerous.

They exchanged glances, then nodded at each other.

Feeling uneasy, Selene took a step back, then doubled over.

Her eyes bulged in shock as she felt the pull of gravity increase heavily. She barely managed to stop herself from being flattened to the ground.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t stand straight and defend against the incoming attack.

The hammer-wielder rushed at her and swung his hammer straight at her head. He didn’t want to waste time at all. Killing her was the priority.

Even though she was temporarily rendered immobile, Selene was far from helpless. She activated Ice Mirror, placing the defensive shield before herself. At the same time, two ice bullets were manifested beside her.

BANG!

The hammer smashed through the Ice Mirror easily, and the ice bullets moved at the same time. At the last second, right before the hammer hit her head, Selene slipped away using Frozen Steps, escaping the range of increased gravity too.

Meanwhile, the hammer-wielder was pulled into the gravity field, and his weapon was forced to the ground.

In this position, he was exposed to the ice bullets that accurately found the gaps in his shoulder guard and pierced into his flesh.

The spearman immediately deactivated his gravity skill, releasing his friend from it. The hammer-wielder straightened, still feeling the sharp pain in his shoulders.

They all stared at Selene, realizing she was even more dangerous than they had reevaluated her.

Meanwhile, behind them, Leon was still locked in a blind battle against the ten Tier Two Vaelari Evolvers.
