Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 574: The Most Worrying Thing Still Happened
An unprovoked bout of pain pierced his mind, as if something were controlling his brain.
The pain was excruciating!
Yet his mind was completely blank. That face simply didn’t exist in his memory!
Ovillette’s face went pale. He felt like he had seen her before. "I saw her at the airport. Who is she?"
He seemed to have seen this exact face at the airport. Why was it so familiar? What was that fleeting, elusive thing flashing through his mind?
"Her name is Ivy Sherwood, and her mother is Winter Mercer. Do you really have no memory of them at all?"
Ovillette shook his head. He had never even heard of the name.
Who was Winter Mercer?
Who on earth could she be?
Right at that moment, Ivy knocked on the door. "Quentin."
She didn’t dare go inside, afraid of triggering Ovillette again. What if he fainted once more?
"Ayre called. He seems to know about this and is already on a flight over with the Princess. He’s bringing his personal doctor," she said through the door.
"Got it," Quentin Blackwood nodded.
He then turned back to Ovillette. "Mr. Ovillette, I know you are the King of Elandra and hold a prestigious status. But think carefully—have you truly never seen this face or heard this name, or are you deliberately hiding something?
"I can also tell you definitively that Winter Mercer is dead. She passed away nearly twenty years ago."
The King’s pupils constricted. Winter Mercer—who exactly was this woman?
Why did his heart ache so densely, so suffocatingly, when he learned she had been dead for nearly twenty years?
He didn’t even know this person.
Quentin observed the King’s reaction. It was an indescribable feeling, as though Ovillette was genuinely clueless about this stranger.
Quentin stood up and stepped outside.
"How is it? What did you say to him? Does he know me? Or my mother?" Ivy asked immediately.
Quentin shook his head. "He doesn’t know you."
"Oh."
It made sense that he wouldn’t know them; he was a king, after all.
Ivy actually thought quite highly of Ovillette. Despite being a king, he put on no airs and had no sense of aloofness. Instead, she felt a strong sense of familiarity around him.
It was a subtle feeling that even she couldn’t put into words.
Inside the ward, Ovillette collapsed, clutching his chest. His head throbbed, his heart ached, and even breathing brought him pain.
He didn’t know why this was happening. Pulling out his phone, he searched for Winter Mercer’s name. There was absolutely no information about her on the internet; he couldn’t find a single result.
He then searched for Ivy Sherwood. There was a bit more information about her—how she had founded a massive company, how she was the future lady boss of the DG Group, and things of that nature.
In truth, there were very few photos of Ivy online because Quentin had ordered almost all traces of her removed to protect her. He didn’t want too many people fixating on Ivy’s appearance, nor did he want any negative rumors circulating online. Only a scarce amount of trivial information remained.
Because of this, Ovillette didn’t actually find much. Yet, as he scrolled through the news about Ivy and the well-wishes from netizens, several hours slipped by.
He didn’t even realize how much time had passed, nor did he notice the smile that crept onto his lips when he saw how happy she was.
Meanwhile.
The news of Ivy and Ovillette’s meeting, as well as Ovillette’s subsequent fainting spell, naturally reached the Princess’s ears in no time.
She nearly fainted from anxiety herself. Her worst fear had come true.
Ovillette must have seen Ivy’s face. What if he found her incredibly familiar? What if he...
Even after boarding the plane, the Princess remained completely out of sorts.
Ayre assumed his sister was just overly worried about Ovillette.
"It’s okay," he comforted her. "Ovillette has always been in good health. He must have just fainted from exhaustion. Besides, Ivy is over there. She’s very reliable, so everything will definitely be fine."
At the mention of Ivy, the Princess’s face turned stark white.
Ivy was exactly who she was most worried about!
The last time Ovillette fainted, it had to be because he saw Ivy. And now, it was Ivy again.
She was terrified that seeing that face might jog Ovillette’s memory. If he remembered, everything would be ruined.
Fortunately, Ayre had brought their personal doctor along on his trip to Calypsos.
This personal doctor, Davi, had always been by Ovillette’s side. He was also the very doctor who had sealed Ovillette’s memories all those years ago. Through a combination of medication, hypnosis, and psychological suggestion, he had forcibly wiped a man’s memory clean.
In truth, this method wasn’t entirely foolproof. That was why Davi had been assigned to stay close to Ovillette, continuously using hypnosis and suggestion over the years to prevent him from ever remembering that woman.
According to Davi, even erasing a memory like this wasn’t absolute. However, as long as Ovillette didn’t see the most important person deep within his heart, he shouldn’t be able to remember.
But once a seed was planted in his mind, it was highly likely that the towering tree of his past memories would be fully restored alongside it.
This was exactly why the Princess had been so terrified when she first saw Ivy’s face. She feared that if Ovillette saw it, he would think of that woman and regain his memories.
The fact that he had fainted just from seeing Ivy was already a very bad sign.
The Princess’s stomach churned with anxiety, her complexion remaining ghastly all the way until they stepped off the plane.
Back in the hospital ward.
Ovillette was still scrolling through his phone, continuously reading up on Ivy.
He read about her past in Lustre, her arranged marriage from childhood, and the drama involving Silas Blackwood and Anna Nash.
The scandals had caused quite an uproar at the time. The details of how the Blackwood family had tried to force the marriage and how Ivy had fought back were all laid out clearly. Even Ovillette felt a surge of indignation reading it. The Blackwood family was simply bullying her too much!
Forcing a young girl into marriage was bad enough, but Silas Blackwood was utter trash. He had so many women on the side, and even an illegitimate child!
But it seemed there was a twist later on. The Blackwood Group had suffered a massive slap in the face when it was revealed that Silas’s son wasn’t even his—his wife had actually had a child with his father?
Thank goodness Ivy hadn’t married into such a family, otherwise, wouldn’t a perfectly good girl have suffered terribly?
He saw that Ivy and Quentin seemed to be doing quite well together. If Quentin ever let her down in the future, it would be a grave injustice to the young woman. Ovillette felt like he would want to step up and defend her himself.
He also read online that Ivy had endured a lot of hardship within the Sherwood family. In her family of origin, her father had two illegitimate daughters who seemed to bully her at every turn.
Even though he had barely met Ivy, his heart was already aching for the girl.
She was so young, yet she had shouldered so much.
If her mother were still alive, how heartbroken she would be.
