Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 577: Ivy Sherwood Is Not That Kind of Person

"What happened?" Ovillette’s voice came from inside.

It was a luxury private suite. Since the Princess had closed the door to the inner room, Ovillette couldn’t hear a thing from the inside. He had only faintly heard Ivy’s name earlier before the Princess stepped out, and he had no idea what they were discussing.

Outside, Quentin said, "If this is how your country treats its guests, I’ll have to reconsider whether to continue my business operations in Elandra."

Quentin’s business empire spanned the globe. With its headquarters in Calypsos, it possessed numerous branches in other countries, and his operations had long since infiltrated Elandra’s market. Especially after learning that Ivy was a member of the Mercer family last year, Quentin had paid special attention to the region, directing his team to aggressively expand their business there. The Princess was probably unaware that he currently held a significant amount of assets in Elandra.

Furthermore, the Mercer family—another prominent clan in Elandra—was Ivy’s maternal family. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Elandra’s economy was practically in Ivy’s hands.

"Let’s go." Quentin placed the fruits and flowers Ivy had carefully selected by the door, took her hand, and left without another word.

Ayre hadn’t expected things to turn out like this. He hurried after them. "Quentin, my sister didn’t mean that! Ivy and I are friends as well as business partners. We absolutely meant no disrespect. We love Calypsos!"

Ovillette emerged from the room as well, but he only caught sight of Ivy and Quentin’s retreating figures. Quentin had his arm around Ivy’s shoulder in a clear, protective stance, ensuring he could shield her at a moment’s notice if any danger arose.

Spotting the items left by the door, the King asked, "What happened?"

The Princess leaned closer to him. "I’m not exactly sure. Ivy came over, she and Quentin said a bunch of nonsense, and then they just left.

"You know we have a language barrier. I couldn’t really understand what they were saying."

The Princess was feigning ignorance, but the King, gazing at Ivy’s fading silhouette, suddenly broke into a stride to chase after her.

"Ovillette! Ovillette!" the Princess called out from behind.

Her eyes brimmed with malice. It turned out that even if a person’s memories were wiped away, they would still instinctively gravitate toward anything connected to that specific someone. The Princess was utterly furious. She had stayed by this man’s side for so many years, yet she still couldn’t compare to Winter Mercer—a woman who was already dead and didn’t even exist in his memory anymore.

By the time the King caught up, Ivy and Quentin had already gotten into their car. Only Ayre remained standing there.

"Where is Ivy?"

"They’ve already left." Ayre also felt his sister was completely in the wrong. "Ovillette, do you think there’s something wrong with my sister? She’s been so irritable lately, and the things she says are just awful. Do you think it’s menopause?"

His sister seemed to be specifically targeting Ivy, and for no apparent reason. If he had been in Ivy’s shoes, hearing those words would have definitely infuriated him too. If it weren’t for Ivy’s flawless upbringing, she might have just cursed them out right then and there. Ayre didn’t think he was superior to anyone; in fact, he felt he couldn’t even begin to compare to Ivy and Quentin.

"What happened just now?" the King asked, having missed the incident outside.

Ayre briefly recounted the events. Upon hearing the story, the King furrowed his brow, a trace of coldness washing over his handsome face. Even if they weren’t speaking to someone who had saved her life—even if it was just an ordinary person—that tone was unacceptable. The Princess had never been so ungracious before.

The King returned to the room and directly confronted the Princess. "Since Ivy came here with good intentions to visit me, why did you speak to her like that?"

"I... I was just anxious. Who knows what their true motives are? What if they’re just using this opportunity to curry favor with us, wanting to leverage our status to build connections, or deliberately putting on a show for someone else?" the Princess made up excuses.

"She’s not that kind of person!"

"You’ve only met her a handful of times! How do you know she’s not?"

The Princess’s question truly stumped Ovillette. She was right; he clearly hadn’t met Ivy many times, yet he was absolutely certain that she wasn’t that kind of person. Perhaps it was because of her kind heart, or perhaps it was because of the stories about her he had seen online. Regardless, Ovillette wanted to get closer to this girl and understand her better.

"Be polite to her from now on. She saved your life. If you don’t want to stay in Calypsos, I can have someone escort you back home."

Hearing this, the Princess retorted, "What do you mean? Are you planning to stay in Calypsos? Are you not going back?"

The King had originally come to Calypsos purely because he heard the Princess had been in an accident. But now, he found himself falling in love with this place. Suddenly, he didn’t want to leave.

"I still have some matters to attend to. Since I’m already here, I naturally have to meet with the leaders of Calypsos. It might take quite a bit of time," the King found an excuse.

He knew that wasn’t his real reason for staying. His visit this time was a personal matter, not an affair of state. In truth, there was no need for him to visit the country’s leaders at all.

How could the Princess possibly leave the King here alone? If something uncontrollable happened, it would be too late by the time she rushed back.

The Princess replied, "Ovillette, in the eyes of others, we’ve always been a sweet, loving couple. If you’re staying in Calypsos for diplomatic visits, there’s no reason for me not to be by your side.

"I understand what you mean. Don’t worry, I will definitely stay by your side. Wherever you are, I’ll be there too."

She intended to stick to the King like glue. She had to keep an eye on Ivy and ensure the girl didn’t get a single opportunity!

After leaving with Quentin, Ivy still felt that something wasn’t quite right. "I feel like the Princess is incredibly hostile toward me, but she definitely wasn’t like this before. At first, I thought she might just be in a bad mood or feeling unwell, but today I realized it might not be that simple."

If even Ivy had noticed it, there was no way Quentin hadn’t. Quentin already had a few theories, but he didn’t want them to affect Ivy right now.

"Don’t overthink it, and don’t waste your energy on irrelevant people. They’ll be leaving Aethelgard soon. Our paths won’t cross again."

Ivy nodded, but despite his reassurances, she couldn’t stop her mind from dwelling on the matter. The Princess’s animosity toward her was too inexplicable. The last two times she had met the Princess in Elandra, everything had been perfectly fine. It seemed that the hostility only flared up after the Princess saw her face.

Ivy wondered, "Could the Princess have known my mother? Otherwise, why would she react so strongly to my face, just like my brothers did? I just look too much like Mom."

Ivy wanted to uncover the truth. She was going to investigate it!

Later, after they had left the hospital area, Quentin made a phone call to Zion Landon.

Zion was a doctor, making it much more convenient for him to look into certain matters. "You’re at the hospital, right? I need you to check on someone’s condition for me."
