Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 581: If Only He Had a Daughter Like Ivy Sherwood
“She’s outside.”
Hearing Quentin Blackwood’s words, Ovillette stood up and walked toward the door. He opened the reception room doors and looked through the living room’s massive floor-to-ceiling windows. There, crouching in the side garden amidst a vast patch of purple irises, was the girl.
She looked like a flower fairy, her white dress serving as the most beautiful embellishment amidst the sea of blue and purple.
Ivy Sherwood had only noticed the expansive patch of irises in the garden looking out from the living room after she arrived. She had no idea when Quentin had planted them.
Irises were actually very easy to grow. As long as there were rhizomes, casually tossing them into the soil was usually enough for them to take root. No matter how harsh the environment or how barren the land, they survived with ease. It was currently the season for irises to bloom. The dense, sprawling cluster swayed in the breeze, their petals resembling the tail feathers of a soaring kite—absolutely stunning.
Ivy couldn’t resist going outside to take a closer look and breathe in their scent. She didn’t realize that the two men inside the house were both watching her through the glass.
Quentin had ordered someone to plant these flowers late last year. He never expected them to grow so well and bloom so beautifully in just half a year. They were just like Ivy’s tenacious vitality—growing unknowingly until they completely blew you away.
It was a truly picturesque scene. The outdoor sunlight was just right, filtering through the leaves to illuminate Ivy’s face. She didn’t even realize how joyous and radiant her own smile was. To Quentin, trading this patch of irises for that single smile from Ivy made it all worth it.
However, as Ovillette watched this scene, he felt something flash through his mind. It seemed familiar, as if it had happened before, yet he couldn’t quite grasp it. It was as if another woman had smiled just like that—bright and radiant.
He wondered who this person was, and what that face looked like.
Ovillette clutched his head. It hurt—a sharp, piercing pain even worse than before. His legs suddenly gave out, and thankfully, Quentin was right beside him to catch him.
“Mr. Ovillette, are you alright?”
Ovillette steadied himself. “I’m fine. I’m fine.”
“Mr. Ovillette, haven’t you noticed it yourself? Every time you see Ivy, your reactions are far too abnormal. Do you really not feel that something is wrong?”
At that moment, Ivy seemed to sense something from outside. She glanced indoors, left the garden, and entered through the main doors.
“What’s wrong? What happened to Mr. Ovillette?” Ivy asked.
As Ivy jogged over in a few quick strides, Quentin immediately let go of Ovillette and walked toward her. “Be careful. Don’t go jumping around.”
“I wasn’t jumping around. I’m walking perfectly steady.”
Ovillette asked, “Does Miss Sherwood have an issue with her legs?”
Ivy said, “No. It’s just that I’m eating for two now, so he’s afraid I’ll fall. Are you alright, Mr. Ovillette?”
Now it was Ovillette’s turn to be surprised. Ivy was pregnant?
He slowly raised his head, staring at Ivy’s face, the contours of her features, her eyes and brows…
“Mr. Ovillette, what’s wrong?” Ivy noted his expression. Previously, Ovillette had looked at her just like this before passing out. “Should we call a doctor over?” She had been worried he would faint again, which was why she hadn’t dared to come in earlier.
“You…” Ovillette wanted to say something but didn’t know where to start. He tried to remember, but his mind went completely blank. “I apologize. My body has been acting strangely these past few days,” he said, massaging his temples.
“You should sit down inside for a while, Mr. Ovillette. I’ll go call a doctor to give you a checkup.”
The lounge was just inside, but Ovillette looked at Ivy instead. “Miss Sherwood, could you stay and chat with me for a bit?”
“Of course. Please, come inside.”
Ivy and Ovillette went inside together while Quentin stayed at the door to make a phone call.
“Your name is Ivy Sherwood?”
“Yes, my name is Ivy Sherwood. You can also just call me Ivy, Mr. Ovillette.”
“Ivy. It’s a beautiful name. Ivy, Ivy…” The name rolled off the tip of Ovillette’s tongue.
A flicker of something flashed through Ovillette’s mind. It was as if someone had once whispered in his ear, “These are called irises. They have a very tenacious vitality. Even if you throw them into the cracks of a stone, they will survive and grow the following year. Besides, don’t you think these blue-purple flowers are absolutely gorgeous?”
He wondered who had said that. But no matter how hard he tried, Ovillette couldn’t grasp the memory.
“How old are you this year?”
“I’m twenty-four.”
Twenty-four. Calculating the time, it had also been exactly twenty-four years ago when he became the King of Elandra.
“I heard from Quentin that you two are getting married next month. Congratulations.” Despite offering his congratulations, the King didn’t feel entirely pleased. Was a man like Quentin reliable? Could he guarantee he would treat Ivy well for the rest of her life?
“Thank you. If there’s a chance, could we invite you to our wedding banquet, Mr. Ovillette? I don’t mean anything else by it, nor am I trying to take advantage of your status. I just feel a sense of affinity with you. You seem very kind and approachable.”
“Of course. I mentioned to Quentin before that I’d love to attend the wedding if the opportunity arose.”
Even though she knew Ovillette was likely just being polite, Ivy still felt happy. “I didn’t expect you to speak Calypsian so well.”
“My maternal grandmother was from Calypsos.”
But in his memories, his grandmother had rarely taught him the language. Ovillette himself couldn’t remember where he had learned this fluent and quite impressive Calypsian. Perhaps he had just been too busy these past few years and forgotten many things. His position came with too many official duties. He was often so swamped he didn’t even have time to rest, let alone reminisce.
“Really? Have you ever visited Calypsos before?” Ivy struck up a conversation with him.
Ovillette replied, “Elandra and Calypsos are allied nations. I’ve visited a few times on official business. It is indeed a country with wonderful people and customs. However, I’ve almost never visited in a private capacity.”
“Then if you have time, you should definitely tour our country. The scenery here is beautiful, and it’s a great tourist destination.”
“I heard you grew up in Lustre. I’d actually really like to see Lustre.”
“Sure! If you ever get the chance, I can be your tour guide. I’m very familiar with Lustre. You can ask me about all the best food and fun places.”
“It’s a deal.” Ovillette simply gazed at Ivy’s face. Even though his head felt like it was going to explode from the pain, he didn’t blink, unwilling to miss a single opportunity to look at her.
Ivy was truly stunning. Her features were so vivid and animated, rendering her beauty almost ethereal.
Ovillette had never thought about having a child. He and the Princess had always treated each other with courteous respect, but upon seeing Ivy, he was struck by a powerful urge. If only he had a daughter like Ivy. He would absolutely treasure her and hold her in the palm of his hand. He would never let her suffer so many grievances like the ones people talked about online.
