Chapter 1316: Chapter 1316: Severely Poisoned

The place they were having dinner at was a Northeastern cuisine restaurant downtown, a table that Kong Lizhen had reserved.

On the way there, Mu Yan stopped by a flower shop and bought a bouquet—carnations, lilies, and roses mixed together, beautiful and generous.

Kong Lizhen was the most elegant woman she knew, and she felt this bouquet suited her very well.

Jiang Jingheng had never met Kong Lizhen. Seeing her put so much thought into someone she had only just gotten to know, he was a bit surprised, and faintly displeased, but he didn’t show it.

After Mu Yan and Jiang Jingheng arrived at the restaurant, they followed the waiter into a private room.

The private room was spacious and tastefully decorated. Kong Lizhen was wearing a long white dress, with a light-colored silk scarf tied around her neck, her hair pinned up, looking intellectual and elegant.

Jordon, who was sitting next to her, was dressed in a shirt and suit trousers, exuding the air of a business elite.

When she saw the two of them come in, a faint smile appeared on Kong Lizhen’s beautiful face, her eyes seeming almost to light up. She stood up at once and said, "You’re here."

Her gaze lingered on Mu Yan for a moment; seeing that she looked well, it then shifted to Jiang Jingheng, a hint of scrutiny in her eyes.

Jordon also stood up and greeted them. "Miss Mu, Owen, long time no see."

"I didn’t expect Mr. Kong to be here as well." Mu Yan said with a smile.

Jordon looked at her in surprise. "Miss Mu isn’t curious why I’m here?"

Mu Yan replied calmly, "Of course not. When I ran into Ms. Kong in France last time, I already thought the surname sounded familiar. Later I met you again, and vaguely felt the two of you were related."

"Miss Mu is really smart." Jordon said with a laugh.

"Why are we all still standing? Sit down." Kong Lizhen urged.

Mu Yan stepped forward and handed over the flowers. "I didn’t know what gift to bring you, so this bouquet represents my thoughts. I Hope you’ll always be as beautiful as the flowers."

"Thank you." Kong Lizhen took the bouquet and said with genuine appreciation, "It’s very pretty."

"As long as you like it." Mu Yan inclined her head slightly.

Kong Lizhen toyed with the flowers and said, "Sit down."

Mu Yan and Jiang Jingheng took their seats, while Kong Lizhen carefully set the bouquet on the cabinet beside them.

Looking at Jiang Jingheng, Jordon said with a smile, "I heard there’s been constant infighting in Shengyuan Group lately. I didn’t expect Owen to still have the leisure to attend a dinner. Aren’t you afraid your position won’t be secure? That the inheritance you’ve already got in hand will be snatched away?"

Infighting? Mu Yan looked at Jiang Jingheng in surprise and asked, "What’s going on?"

"Nothing, just a small mess. I can handle it." Jiang Jingheng explained.

Seeing that he looked composed, Mu Yan knew he wasn’t exaggerating.

Besides, she didn’t understand the company’s affairs and couldn’t help him with anything, so she simply didn’t ask further, so as not to cause him trouble.

Having just come over, Kong Lizhen caught their conversation and her gaze rested on Jiang Jingheng.

In her eyes, the man before her was truly too handsome, his voice gentle; it was only natural that a young girl, unable to resist the temptation, might fall for it.

She’d heard from Jordon that he was far from simple, otherwise he couldn’t have taken the helm of a group as big as Shengyuan in such a short time with the status of an illegitimate son.

So she couldn’t help but suspect that he had married Mu Yan for the Zhuang Family’s influence.

From ancient times, businessmen could only go far with politicians at their backs; business–political marriages had always been prized in high society.

She sat down and looked at Mu Yan, saying, "If it weren’t for the news, I really wouldn’t have thought Miss Mu would get married so early."

Mu Yan glanced at Jiang Jingheng beside her and said with a smile, "It’s not that early. I know he’s the one I’ll walk through life with, so it’s better to get married sooner, openly and legitimately."

Jiang Jingheng gave her a gentle smile. Their eyes met, full of tender affection.

The smile on Kong Lizhen’s face froze for a brief moment. It seemed the poison had gone quite deep.
