A Night of Desire
Chapter 793 - 790: Accident
Chapter 793: Chapter 790: Accident
Seth Quinn had been watching River Sterling, so when he saw him suddenly bolt in a panic, his eyes quickly followed.
When he saw what was happening, his brows furrowed in alarm, and he unconsciously clenched his fists.
As for Clara Grant, she let out a horrified gasp. She was so frightened she forgot to cover her eyes, simply staring with them wide open.
River Sterling yelled at the top of his lungs as he ran, "Rhys Ryston, get out of the way!"
Rhys Ryston had been walking with her head down. Hearing his shout, she stopped instinctively, frowning in his direction.
She opened her mouth, as if to say something, but before she could get a word out, River Sterling had already lunged at her like the wind. The two of them crashed heavily to the ground.
"River Sterling, you..."
Rhys Ryston, fighting through the pain, opened her mouth to viciously rebuke him. But just as she began to speak, a loud BANG! was followed by the CRASH of shattering glass.
Terrified, she looked up toward the source of the sound. Right where she had been standing, the massive chandelier had fallen from the ceiling and smashed to the ground, exploding into a shower of glass fragments.
Rhys Ryston stared blankly at the glass shards for a long moment before she finally processed what had happened. Her gaze shifted hesitantly to River Sterling, who was lying on top of her, and a storm of emotions churned within her.
’If it wasn’t for him, that chandelier would have smashed me to a bloody pulp. I could have been killed.’
’Doesn’t he dislike me? Even after what happened between us that night, he always used it to threaten me. He doesn’t like me; he might even hate me.’
’He finds me too rigid and uninteresting, too headstrong and stubborn. He scorns my looks, scorns my inability to dress up...’
’He scorns me for all that, so why would he rush out to save me at a time like this?’
River Sterling glanced back at the pile of glass shards, then looked back at Rhys Ryston’s dazed expression. Thinking she was hurt from the fall or just scared, he quickly tried to sit up, but a sharp movement in his leg made him let out a low hiss of pain.
But he had no time to worry about his own injuries. He looked at Rhys Ryston and asked anxiously, "Rhys Ryston, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"
Rhys Ryston shook her head blankly, almost unconsciously. River Sterling let out a sigh of relief and immediately reassured her, "Don’t be scared. It’s okay now."
Looking into his eyes, now filled with a hint of tenderness, and hearing his gentle voice, Rhys Ryston’s heart suddenly pounded wildly. A strange feeling surged through her.
’I’ve never liked River Sterling, either. I always thought he was improper, with that roguish, devil-may-care attitude. A total playboy who doesn’t know how to respect women!’
’Even if the whole world fell for a man like that, I, Rhys Ryston, never would.’
’So why, at this very moment, do I suddenly find him rather handsome? And not so annoying anymore?’
Seth Quinn and Clara Grant finally snapped out of it and rushed over to River Sterling and Rhys Ryston, crouching down to check on them.
"Ryston, are you okay?"
Clara Grant’s voice pulled Rhys Ryston from her thoughts. With a slight blush, she quickly tore her gaze away from River Sterling and mumbled, "Oh, I’m fine."
"River, how are you?" Seth Quinn asked.
As he spoke, he moved to pull River Sterling up, but the moment River moved, his brows knitted together. "Hurts, hurts, hurts..."
