Chapter 131: Sienna, Mom Begs You...
Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Sienna, Mom Begs You...
Laughably, this was the first time she had ever heard her own mother call her something that wasn’t an insult.
In the past, Sheila Whitaker had either called her by her full name or cursed her, calling her a "damned brat" or a "worthless wretch."
Sienna Everett hadn’t wanted to waste a single breath on Sheila Whitaker, but now she felt a flicker of interest. She gave a small signal to Keith Sterling and Evan Shelby, then walked over to a nearby fountain with Sheila Whitaker.
The sun was setting, its lingering rays spilling across the scene. It was as if a handful of glittering crushed diamonds had been scattered across the surface of the fountain, creating a beautiful, sparkling sight.
Sienna Everett paid no mind to the scenery. Her expression was cold as she asked, "What do you want to talk about?"
Sheila Whitaker’s fingers tightened on her purse. She had never had to act so humbly before this daughter of hers. After hesitating for several seconds, she finally spoke in a pained voice, "Sienna, your brother and your sister..."
Sienna Everett’s voice was frigid as she corrected her. "Ms. Whitaker, I don’t have a brother, let alone a sister."
Sheila Whitaker felt a pang in her chest, and her eyes widened in disbelief, faint wrinkles appearing on her well-maintained face. "What did you call me?"
’Ms. Whitaker?’
’She won’t even call me Mom anymore?’
Sienna Everett, a full head taller than Sheila Whitaker, let out a soft sneer. She looked down at her mother condescendingly. "Ms. Whitaker, if you’re here to discuss what I should call you, I don’t have time for it."
Sheila Whitaker’s breathing quickened. She shut her eyes for a moment, and when she opened them again, it seemed she had braced herself to be submissive. She said softly,
"At the design symposium today, Shannon knocked over a water bottle and ruined your design sketch. The incident got exposed online, and now so many people are attacking her. Shannon’s reputation had just started to get a little better, and now it’s been destroyed again..."
"Sienna, could you please post a statement online saying you’ve forgiven Shannon? And ask people to stop attacking her? Please?"
Sienna Everett’s tone was level, betraying no emotion. "So you’re heartbroken that Shannon Everett is being attacked?"
Sheila Whitaker replied without a moment’s hesitation, "Shannon is my daughter. Seeing so many people attack her, how could a mother like me not be heartbroken?!"
Sienna Everett felt an urge to laugh, and she did, but the smile never reached her eyes.
"Ms. Whitaker, back when you falsely accused me of pushing you and let the whole internet slander me, did you feel even an ounce of that same heartbreak for me?"
Sheila Whitaker was struck speechless and couldn’t come up with a reply for a long moment.
Sienna Everett’s smile vanished, and she turned to leave.
Seeing her turn, Sheila Whitaker immediately reached out to stop her. "Please, just post that statement for Shannon," she pleaded urgently. "If this keeps up, her reputation will be utterly destroyed."
"And Mason... the Everett Family went to great lengths to get him out of jail. He’s always been ambitious, dedicated to making the family business prosper, but today you sabotaged his plan to sign Roger Shields..."
"Sienna, please, just stop going after Mason and Shannon, okay?"
Sienna Everett gave her an expressionless glance. "When they were bullying me, why didn’t you try talking to them like this?"
Sheila Whitaker’s fingers trembled. She knew she had no ground to stand on, but she kept blocking Sienna Everett’s path. "Even if the Everett Family wronged you before, that’s all in the past. Can’t you just let it go...?"
’She’d never heard anything so ridiculous.’
’For a moment, she didn’t even want to waste her breath arguing with Sheila Whitaker.’
Sheila Whitaker stared into Sienna Everett’s eyes, her voice cracking with a sob. "Sienna, Mason and Shannon are in a terrible position right now. Please, just let them go this once. I’m begging you..."
Not a single ripple of emotion disturbed Sienna Everett’s calm eyes. She glanced down at the hand Sheila Whitaker was using to block her path, her tone dripping with unconcealed disgust. "Get your hand off me. It’s filthy."
Those seven words made Sheila Whitaker flinch as if pricked by a needle. She tremblingly pulled back her hand. "Sienna, I was just..."
Sienna Everett’s gaze was icy, her voice detached and distant. "Ms. Whitaker, we’ve already severed all mother-daughter ties. Stop calling yourself my mother."
’Besides, Sheila Whitaker was only acting this humble for Shannon and Mason’s sake.’
At Sienna Everett’s words, Sheila Whitaker fell silent, staring at her daughter in a daze.
When they brought Sienna Everett back to the family two years ago, Sheila Whitaker had known she was beautiful—so beautiful that she effortlessly outshone Shannon Everett, who had been coddled in luxury her entire life.
The first time she laid eyes on Sienna Everett, Sheila Whitaker’s primary feeling was shock that she could have given birth to such a stunning daughter.
Neither her delicate eyes nor her exquisite features resembled Sheila’s own.
’She had even wondered how she and Morgan Everett could have possibly produced a daughter so exquisitely beautiful...’
A wave of emotion washed over Sheila Whitaker. She looked at Sienna Everett, hesitated for a second, and then began to plead again. "Sienna, please, just spare Shannon and Mason this time..."
The words had barely left her mouth when, before Sienna Everett could respond, two tall figures suddenly rushed over and placed themselves protectively in front of her.
