Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Another Day of Choosing a Woman Over a Brother
Sienna Everett only found out Mason Everett was missing because the Everett family came looking for her.
That day, Stella Shaw had booked Sienna Everett for an outdoor variety show. As Sienna was leaving the set after filming, she saw Miles Everett and Lucas Everett approaching.
Miles Everett was a cultural artifact restorer with a calm, detached personality who rarely appeared in public. Stella didn’t recognize him at first glance.
Lucas Everett was a race car driver, so naturally, anyone uninterested in racing wouldn’t know who he was.
The two of them had tracked Sienna all the way to the set, and they clearly weren’t fans. Stella’s tone was cold and businesslike. "Can I help you two with something?"
Lucas Everett, wearing a black jacket, had a cold expression on his face, his features contorted into a fierce scowl. "I’m Sienna Everett’s fourth brother. I need to talk to her!"
Stella immediately became wary.
Sienna Everett placed a hand on Stella’s shoulder, signaling for her not to worry.
Stella glanced down for a moment. Knowing Sienna could handle herself, she stepped away to give them space to talk.
However, Stella didn’t go far, staying close enough to intervene if Sienna needed help.
The crew members still cleaning up the props glanced over curiously at the scene with Sienna but didn’t pry or gather around.
Sienna Everett looked at the two men before her, her gaze colder than it would be for a complete stranger.
Lucas Everett launched right into an interrogation. "Sienna Everett, did you hide our eldest brother?!"
Sienna found it laughable. "Are you sure you want to ask such a stupid question?"
Lucas was seething. He suppressed his rage and yelled,
"Don’t tell me you don’t know! Mason hasn’t been back to the Everett family estate since the banquet! His phone is off, and we can’t get a hold of him at all!"
"It’s been five days! Even the police can’t find a trace of him! How dare you say his disappearance has nothing to do with you?!"
Sienna’s eyes were icy. "Of course it has nothing to do with me. I don’t care whether Mason Everett is missing or back home."
Lucas gritted his teeth in anger, his rugged face twisting into an even fiercer expression.
"Sienna Everett! Mason started having mental problems right after he found out you’re Kian. He won’t come home, and he won’t answer our calls. It’s been five whole days! We don’t know if he’s missing or had an accident, if he’s dead or alive! You’re his own sister, and you don’t care at all? Do you have any humanity?!"
Sienna couldn’t help but laugh, but it was a sad, sarcastic laugh.
"When I used to care about you, you didn’t want it. Now that I don’t care, you run here to blame me. What kind of logic is that?"
Lucas was speechless. Realizing he was in the wrong, his glare only grew more vicious.
"I’m your fourth brother! Is it wrong for me to criticize you?! Sienna Everett, it’s all because of you that the Everett family is in this state!"
"Do you have any idea? Shannon is being so viciously attacked online she’s afraid to leave the house! Mother has been crying her eyes out every day and fainted yesterday—she’s still in the hospital! Mason is missing, not a trace of him, we don’t even know if he’s dead or alive! And Wyatt and Dustin won’t even come home anymore!"
"The Everett family is in this pathetic state all because of you! You’re the one who ruined us!"
A sharp glint appeared in Sienna’s eyes. Her voice was as cold as a stream frozen over in winter. "That’s just like all of you. You never look for the cause within yourselves."
"Lucas Everett, let me tell you, the Everett family’s current situation is exactly what you all deserve."
Lucas’s expression soured further at her words. He looked ready to shout again, but Miles Everett, who had been silent the whole time, finally spoke up. "That’s enough, Lucas. We’re here to ask about Mason’s whereabouts."
Unlike the fierce Lucas, Miles had a gentle face and a calm, unhurried way of speaking. "Sienna, we’re very worried about Mason being missing. If you know where he is, we hope you’ll let us know."
Sienna looked at her so-called second brother. He always gave off an air of being detached, quiet, and reserved.
In the two years she had been back with the Everett family, Miles had seen the others bully her but had never once intervened or asked about it. Perhaps he felt it was none of his business, or perhaps he was silently condoning it.
Yet now that Mason Everett was missing, she could actually see a worried side to Miles.
Miles looked at Sienna, his expression calm. "Knowing Mason, he probably wants to see you right now, to say something to you. If he does look for you, I hope you’ll tell him to come home. Mother is very worried about him."
Sienna didn’t answer. She simply turned and walked back toward Stella Shaw.
Seeing her approach, Stella quickly asked, "All done?"
Sienna nodded. "Mhm."
Stella said, "Let’s head back then."
Sienna replied, "Okay."

「Forresterer Group.」
Julian Forrester had just finished a senior management meeting and returned to his office. As he sat down, he received a call from Keith Sterling.
He leaned back slightly in his office chair, loosening his tie with one well-defined hand while picking up his phone with the other, casually answering the call.
"Bro, did you hear?" Keith Sterling reported excitedly. "Mason Everett seems to be missing! I wonder if he’s hiding or if something happened to him."
Julian Forrester pinched the bridge of his nose. His expression was weary and languid; he clearly wasn’t interested.
Keith could chatter on excitedly all by himself. "Speaking of which, what the hell is this Mason Everett up to? Don’t tell me he’s trying to pull a self-pity ploy to get Sierra’s sympathy, is he?"
Suddenly, Keith felt his guess was highly plausible.
’This kind of all-purpose tactic usually packs a huge punch. What if Sierra’s heart softens?’
Keith voiced his speculation, but after getting no response, he started to complain. "Bro, what are you doing? Why are you ignoring me? Am I not your favorite little brother anymore? Don’t tell me you think I’m annoying too!"
Julian Forrester glanced nonchalantly at his phone screen and lazily dropped two words: "Hanging up."
And then, Keith heard the BEEP-BEEP-BEEP of a disconnected line.
’He really hung up! Is there no love left in the world!’
’Would you dare hang up if Sierra called you?’
Undeterred, Keith Sterling called again. This time, it rang for a long time, and the call was only picked up just before it would have disconnected automatically.
Keith was on the verge of tears. "Bro, how could you be so cruel as to hang up on me? Do you know how much damage that does to my fragile little heart? Do you know..."
As Keith was whimpering, he suddenly heard the line go dead again.
???
Keith called again.
This time, however, his brother didn’t even pick up.
Feeling neglected, Keith Sterling pitifully tapped out a text message on his phone screen:
[Bro, pick up! I really have something important to tell you this time, for real! It’s about Sierra!]
After sending the text, Keith called once more.
’Well, what do you know. His brother picked up instantly after just one ring.’
’Putting his girl before his bro, as always.’
For some reason, Keith suddenly felt even more depressed. But then he remembered the bit of gossip he was about to share and broke into a cheeky grin. "Bro, you mentioned before that someone with an extraordinary background was pursuing my sister-in-law. Did you ever find out who it was?"
