The study was unlit. Heavy velvet curtains were tightly drawn, and only a single magic lamp on the desk emitted a faint, cold glow.
Hera sat in a large high-backed chair, holding a feather pen, rapidly annotating a document. She didn’t even look up, yet the invisible pressure filled the entire room the moment the door opened.
Lilia swallowed.
“Um… Master, I’m back.”
Hera slowly set down the pen and closed the folder with a soft sound.
She raised her head.
“You’re back?”
Her voice carried a lazy hoarseness, unreadable in emotion.
Lilia’s heart skipped a beat. Her knees instinctively weakened, nearly dropping her into a kneel.
“Well… it was for your task.” Lilia forced a flattering smile, trying to muddle through cutely. “The Black Sea is really far, and we ran into some small trouble on the way, so it took a few extra days.”
“Small trouble?”
Hera raised an eyebrow, leaning back into her chair, her long legs crossing.
Cold sweat instantly broke out on Lilia’s back.
She straightened her posture and declared righteously, “I always put your interests first!”
Hera let out a soft laugh.
She stood, walked around the desk, and approached Lilia step by step.
As she drew closer, the scent of cedar grew stronger, carrying an invasive sense of pressure.
Lilia subconsciously stepped back until her back hit the cold wall—there was nowhere left to retreat.
Hera stopped half a step in front of her.
Too close.
Close enough for Lilia to see the shadow cast by Hera’s eyelashes, to feel the warmth radiating from her body.
“Did going out make you more timid? Why so scared?”
Hera lifted a finger and gently hooked Lilia’s chin, forcing her to look up.
The finger was slightly cool, the pad brushing lightly across her skin, sending a shiver through her body.
“N-not scared.” Lilia stammered, her eyes darting around, not daring to meet Hera’s gaze. “Just… just got back. I’m dirty, didn’t want to bother you.”
“Dirty?”
Hera lowered her head slightly and leaned into Lilia’s neck, taking a soft sniff.
Warm breath brushed against her skin. Lilia froze completely, the thread of “sanity” in her mind stretched to its limit.
“This outfit is nice.”
Hera’s finger slid down from Lilia’s chin, resting on the maid outfit that shimmered with a strange luster.
Lilia didn’t dare move, didn’t even dare breathe loudly.
Her mind was filled with images from that dream—how she had cornered Hera just like this.
Was this karma?
“Master… um…” Lilia tried to change the subject, to break the suffocating atmosphere. “I have important intelligence to report! About the Immortality Society, and that Old God—”
“Shh.”
Hera raised a finger and pressed it against Lilia’s lips, stopping her chatter.
“That nonsense can wait.”
“Let me first…”
Her gaze darkened slightly, her fingertip pressing lightly into Lilia’s soft lips until they turned faintly red.
She withdrew her hand and flicked Lilia lightly on the forehead.
“Just teasing you.”
Lilia covered her forehead, staring blankly at Hera.
Teasing?
“No need to report. I’ve already seen everything in your mind.” Hera turned, her black skirt tracing an elegant arc. “Come with me.”
“Go… where?”
Still shaken, Lilia asked instinctively.
Hera didn’t answer. She simply raised her hand and snapped her fingers.
The surrounding space twisted instantly. That familiar dizziness hit again.
“Ugh—”
Lilia covered her mouth, nearly vomiting on the spot.
No matter how many times she experienced it, she could never get used to the feeling of being spun in a washing machine three hundred times.
When her feet finally touched solid ground again, she bent over, dry heaving before barely suppressing the rising nausea.
“This is…”
She straightened and looked up.
Then froze.
The night wind howled, lifting her silver hair.
They stood atop a towering viewing platform, beneath them a massive depression like an abyss.
It was once the Dark Moon Canyon—the enormous crater she had blasted out with a Forbidden Spell.
But now, it had completely transformed.
The scorched, glass-like terrain around the crater’s edge was now covered with countless blooming white roses.
The sea of white flowers shimmered under the moonlight, like a soft veil draped over the scar of the earth.
Below, the inner walls of the pit had been carved into tiered stands. Countless black pillars rose upward, supporting a magnificent dome.
At the very bottom, what had once been a death-filled abyss was now paved with neat White Jade Tiles, engraved with complex defensive formations that emitted a faint glow.
Lilia’s mouth hung open, unable to speak for a long time.
She remembered casually mentioning the concept just to stop Camilla from building her a grave.
She hadn’t expected that prodigal woman to actually build it.
And with such efficiency!
“Do you like it?”
Hera’s voice came from beside her.
She stood at the edge of the platform, her black robe fluttering in the night wind. She gazed down at the massive structure below, her eyes filled with domineering pride.
“This is just…” Lilia searched for words, finally managing only two, “magnificent.”
“That fool Camilla may not be very bright, but her execution is decent.” Hera commented lightly, as if it were nothing.
She turned to look at Lilia, who was still stunned, a playful smile curling at her lips.
“You once said that the strong don’t need graves, only scars left upon the earth.”
Hera raised her hand, pointing toward the brightly lit arena below.
“Now, that scar has become glory.”
She extended her hand toward Lilia, palm up—an inviting gesture.
“This is yours, Lilia.”
Her voice was clear in the night wind, carrying undeniable authority, yet faintly laced with indulgence.
“From today onward, this White Rose Arena belongs to you.”
Lilia stared at Hera’s pale, slender hand, her heart pounding uncontrollably.
What was this?
“Thank you, Your Majesty!” she said loudly, a genuine smile on her face. “Then the annual ticket revenue—”
Hera’s hand tightened slightly, pulling Lilia closer and cutting off her money-minded remark.
“Don’t rush to count money.”
Hera lowered her head slightly, golden eyes glinting dangerously.
“The venue is ready, but I still need an opening ceremony worthy of it.”
