Lang Qiu glanced in the direction Lang Lie had fled but didn’t rush to pursue him.

Just then, some Beastmen and elders who lived farther away arrived late. As soon as they got there, they saw that Lang Qiu had tied everyone up. An elder who had been on relatively good terms with Lang Qiu sighed and said, “Lang Qiu, why must you do this?”

Hearing his words, Lang Qiu’s gaze remained on the spot he had just buried. “Elder Si, I only returned to bring them back and to take what was rightfully mine from the past. As the former leader, I suggest you find a new one. Someone who abandons his own clansmen and flees is not fit to lead the Wolf Clan!”

He looked up, his gaze firm. “Entrusting the lives of all our clansmen to a person like that… if the old leader were still alive, he would never have agreed to it.”

The elders had already heard some of this, but hearing from Lang Qiu’s own mouth that Lang Lie had actually fled in fear was utterly humiliating for them.

Back then, they had been completely taken in by Lang Lie’s coaxing, which led to the current situation. When Lang Qiu led the Wolf Clan, their days were prosperous, and all the clansmen lived in harmony.

After Lang Lie took power, he spent all his days eating, drinking, or lost in the company of women, not doing a single useful thing for the Wolf Clan. He had originally coaxed them with promises to develop the clan even better than Lang Qiu had, but now he had abandoned all his clansmen and run away.

Facing Lang Qiu, they all felt ashamed.

They had also advised Lang Lie to treat Lang Tai and the others well, as they were all promising talents with outstanding abilities. But Lang Lie saw them as Lang Qiu’s men and ostracized them at every turn.

They hunted the most prey but were given the smallest shares.

Whenever they brought it up, Lang Lie would use the fact that he was the leader now to stop them from interfering.

Elder Si was very old and had served under many leaders. Among all of them, Lang Qiu was the most capable and outstanding. Not just in managing the Wolf Clan, but in all other aspects, he was the best of the best among all the leaders.

After some thought, Elder Si had to admit that Lang Qiu was right.

And so, he made a decision. He said earnestly, “Lang Qiu, the Wolf Clan needs you now.”

Instantly, countless people cried out, “Elder Si!”

But Elder Si was unmoved. He only did what he believed was right. Back then, due to his health, he hadn’t been able to support Lang Qiu, which led to him being driven out.

Lang Qiu shook his head. “I only came back to get my things. Give me what’s mine, and I’ll leave.”

Hearing this, those who had been bribed by Lang Lie to vehemently support driving Lang Qiu away all breathed a sigh of relief.

Seeing that Lang Qiu was determined not to return, the elder had no choice but to say, “Then tell us, who in your opinion is the most suitable person to be the leader?”

Lang Qiu said, “Lang Tai would have actually been an excellent choice. If you had just treated them kindly back then, Lang Tai could have become the leader’s best aide, but he’s dead now.”

The others all looked embarrassed by Lang Qiu’s words, because they were all complicit.

There were many people in the Wolf Clan, but there really weren’t many Beastmen suitable to be leader.

After a long moment, Lang Qiu said a name. “Lang Lang, I suppose.”

Lang Lang, hearing his own name completely unexpectedly, was stunned.

The others were also incredulous. “Lang Lang? How could it be Lang Lang?”

Elder Si glanced at Lang Lang and asked thoughtfully, “Why him?”

Lang Qiu replied, “A few years ago, he went on a hunt with us. My impression of him was that he’s brave and clever, a very ambitious cub. He’s also soft-hearted, but he lacks experience. With some guidance, he has potential. That’s better than someone who just has a superpower but couldn’t care less about the clan.”

Hearing this, Lang Lang was dumbfounded. He never thought the former leader would still remember what happened back then and recommend him as the new leader because of it.

If the elders had been hesitant before, that last sentence made them determined. After a brief discussion among several elders, Elder Si said, “We old-timers have talked it over. We plan to select a few Beastmen for an observation period, and then we will decide on the most suitable person to be leader.”

After speaking, he seemed to find it difficult to continue, but since the position of leader was so important, he forced himself to say it. “We hope you can stay and help the clan evaluate them.”

Upon hearing this, Lang Qiu’s expression didn’t change as he said flatly, “I have other business.”

Another elder said unhappily, “What business could be more important than the clan’s election? You’re a member of the Wolf Clan, and the former leader at that. You should be putting the clan first above all else!!”

If Bai Zhi and Yue Junxiao had heard that, they probably would have laughed out loud.

Sang Mo, for his part, simply turned his head and walked away.

‘How did they treat Lang Qiu back then? And now they dare to try and emotionally blackmail him by telling him to put the clan first.’

‘Not to mention, in the years Lang Qiu was in power, how many contributions did he make to the Wolf Clan? Who would dare say he did a poor job?’

‘And what was the result? They believed Lang Lie’s words, set a trap for his men, and to protect everyone, he left the Wolf Clan, leaving them behind. But in the end, the people he left behind were driven out by them using all sorts of methods.’

If it weren’t for the sense of responsibility instilled in him by the old leader since he was young, he wouldn’t have even bothered to offer a suggestion.

Lang Qiu paid him no mind and just said, “I’ve already given my suggestion. Whether you choose to take it or not is your business. Give me what belongs to me, and I’ll leave.”

With that, he walked straight to his old room.

The elder who had just spoken immediately said, unable to contain his anger, “If you’re not willing, then we won’t give you your things!”

Elder Si quickly stopped him from saying anything worse. Elder Si could see that all Lang Qiu felt for them now was a sliver of responsibility. If they pushed him too far, he feared Lang Qiu wouldn’t even show them a final bit of courtesy.

Lang Qiu didn’t even hesitate in his stride. He opened the door, and it was clear his room had been taken over by Lang Lie. There was an indescribable smell inside; something had obviously happened here before, and the scent hadn’t completely dissipated.

Lang Qiu frowned slightly before walking straight to a corner of the room. He then twisted a decorative object, and a small, palm-sized box instantly appeared on the wall.

Lang Qiu took it and placed it directly into his storage space, then turned and walked out.

They had evidently come to an agreement. Their attitude was no longer as arrogant as before. Elder Si said amiably, “I’ve already sent someone to get your things. Our earlier request was perhaps a bit much. I hope that for the old leader’s sake, you’ll pick out a few promising talents. Even though you’ve left the Wolf Clan, you’re still a member of the clan, after all. You wouldn’t want to see the Wolf Clan slowly wither away, would you?”

Lang Qiu thought for a few seconds before finally naming a few who were barely acceptable. During that time, the Beastman sent to retrieve Lang Qiu’s belongings returned with them.

These were things the old leader had left for him, which they had kept when he left.

He had left in a hurry back then and hadn’t had time to take his things. In the past, he still had some attachment to the Wolf Clan, but now his men were either dead or gone. The Wolf Clan was no longer the clan it once was.

There was no longer any reason to stay.
