After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 383 - 379: Shen Ying is Coming?
Chapter 383: Chapter 379: Shen Ying is Coming?
Before the end of the workday, Jiang Xia went to find Old Wang to chat about work. The guy’s storyboarding skills had improved by leaps and bounds recently. As long as Jiang Xia gave him a script, he could produce the perfect storyboards.
So, after Jiang Xia stepped down as storyboard director, Wang Ming had completely taken on the responsibility. The sixth season of *Cat and Mouse*, now under his direction, was already airing on major television networks and D Station. The art style was nearly identical to previous seasons, the animation was excellent, and the online reception remained overwhelmingly positive.
In fact, if some sharp-eyed fans hadn’t pointed out that the animation director had changed, almost no one would have noticed.
This just went to show how outstanding Old Wang’s talent for animation was.
"Old Wang, is Shen Ying coming for summer break?"
"Yeah!"
A smile involuntarily bloomed on Wang Ming’s face at the thought. He had originally planned to keep it a secret and surprise everyone, but since Jiang Xia had asked, there was no point in hiding it anymore.
"She just has one final left. Once she finishes it tomorrow, she’s free. Her flight is at 2 PM, so she should get to the Imperial Capital by evening."
"Tsk, tsk. Can’t wait to see you the moment she’s done with her exams. What do they call that? Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right, buddy? Even better than a honeymoon."
Jiang Xia glanced toward Li Weiya’s office out of the corner of his eye and lowered his voice. "She gets into the Imperial Capital at night, and you’ll definitely go pick her up. And then what? You two going to get a room?"
Wang Ming’s face flushed red. He wasn’t as shameless as Jiang Xia; some things he only dared to keep buried in his heart, not even allowing himself to think about them.
"No way! I’m just going to pick her up, that’s it. Don’t get any funny ideas."
"Right, right. Just the tip, I get it," Jiang Xia chuckled, nudging his arm. "Anyway, Old Wang, want me to give you a couple of days off? You can show Shen Ying around the Imperial Capital properly."
"Two days is a little short, don’t you think?" Old Wang raised an eyebrow. "The Imperial Capital is huge, and there are so many sights. What can you even see in two days?" The two of them were sworn brothers who had been thick as thieves since childhood. They didn’t stand on ceremony with each other.
"Five days, then. The sixth season of *Cat and Mouse* is out now anyway, so it’s a good time for you to get some rest. You’ve worked hard."
"Old Jiang, you’re a real one," Wang Ming said. "For the *Cat and Mouse* movie, you can give me some of the key animation work."
"Those are your words, not mine. I didn’t force you."
"Yeah, yeah, it’s nothing."
As the saying goes, good fortune lifts the spirits. With his girlfriend about to arrive in the Imperial Capital, Wang Ming was in an exceptionally good mood.
Ever since they confessed their feelings for each other on New Year’s Eve, their relationship had been steadily growing stronger. Even though they were in different cities for the school semester, they had long, sweet phone calls every day, talking about their days and occasionally video calling to ease the pain of being apart.
Now that they had finally made it through the semester, they could be together for the entire summer break. His happiness level was maxed out.
"Does your godmother know about you and Shen Ying yet?" Jiang Xia asked with a smile.
Wang Ming shook his head. "I’ve been hiding my calls with Shen Ying from her, so I don’t think she knows. But I probably won’t be able to hide it this summer."
After all, Shen Ying was coming all this way to the Imperial Capital to see him. Even if they used work as an excuse, Li Weiya wasn’t a fool. If the two of them were being all lovey-dovey day in and day out, she would know at a glance that something was up.
"Is it possible your godmother already knows?" Jiang Xia suggested. "Maybe she just doesn’t want to call you out on it."
"You think so?" Wang Ming pursed his lips and glanced cautiously toward his mom’s office. He happened to see her walking out with a mug and quickly looked away, afraid she might notice something.
Jiang Xia shrugged nonchalantly. "Back when Yanwan and I were just dating, my parents knew everything perfectly well. Think about it, how could a parent not notice the recent changes in their own son? You’re on your phone chatting with Shen Ying, you let slip an unconscious smile... believe me, your godmother can probably imagine an entire soap opera from that alone."
"..."
Wang Ming was speechless. He couldn’t argue with that. Sometimes, when he was having a meal with his mom, a message would come in from Shen Ying, and he’d subconsciously smile as he happily replied.
Li Weiya would see this and often ask who he was texting. He always brushed it off as work-related, but the meaningful look on his mom’s face sometimes made it obvious she had sensed something.
"So what you’re saying is, I should just come clean to my mom?"
"Come clean or don’t, it’s up to you. I’m giving you five days off. Even if you’re just going to show Shen Ying around the Imperial Capital, you’ll still have to tell your godmother where you’re going and who you’re with, won’t you?"
Jiang Xia smiled and continued, "At that point, even if you don’t say it outright, she’ll probably have figured most of it out. The fact that she hasn’t asked about your personal life probably means she’s already tacitly approved of your relationship with Shen Ying. It’s just a matter of when you’ll formally introduce Shen Ying to your godmother as your girlfriend."
Wang Ming let out a soft breath. "I get it."
Growing up, Li Weiya had rarely interfered in his personal life. Without a father’s love, her only hope was that he would grow up to be stronger and more independent.
Therefore, as long as she felt her son had found a good partner and that they could be happy together, she saw no need to meddle. She just had to watch quietly from the sidelines.
"Yanwan’s roommates resigned today, so they’re treating everyone to dinner tonight. Want to come?" Jiang Xia asked casually.
Wang Ming knew he was talking about Cui Jiaying and Si Si. They worked at D Station, but that was a different company, and their offices were far from his. He only ran into them occasionally and didn’t know them well.
"Nah, I don’t really know them, so I’ll pass. You guys go have fun," Wang Ming said, shaking his head. "But weren’t they doing well at D Station? I heard they were performing great. Why did they suddenly quit?"
Wang Ming really didn’t get it. With Jiang Xia and Lin Yanwan as their backing, they could have become junior managers in just a year or two, with salaries far exceeding the average person’s.
"They’re planning to become full-time content creators," Jiang Xia explained. "They want to make commentary and roast videos about movies, dramas, and anime. Their jobs at D Station were too demanding for that."
"Oh, that’s cool too. With you and Yanwan around, all you have to do is casually feature one of their videos on the trending page, and it’d be hard for them *not* to get popular. Raking in hundreds of thousands or even millions of fans... yeah, that’s definitely better than being a wage slave for you here."
Jiang Xia laughed and shot back, "Is that how you think power should be abused?"
"Isn’t it? Then how do you explain picking Chen Yao?" Wang Ming couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
"???"
Jiang Xia froze. ’Shit, how does this guy know too?’
"Old Jiang, I know all about it," Wang Ming grinned mischievously. "A young, beautiful lawyer... tsk, tsk. Did Yanwan make you kneel on the washboard?"
"Get outta here! Scram!"
