Chapter 790: Chapter 790 - But since you wanted her, it’s your life on the line
Last night, Bloodfang had used his powers twice, resulting in Voren’s weakness, a bone deep exhaustion that had settled into every fiber of his being.
But now, he was energized thanks to not having used any, his body humming with renewed strength, his senses sharp and clear, pure readiness flooding through him.
Even if he was still no match for the Lycans, his wife was right beside him, her presence a steady anchor in the storm. But he wanted as much as possible to handle Battal on his own, to be the one who made him pay. Pure personal resolve burned hot in his chest.
"Battal, you have arrived on time." Voren said casually as he turned to Corvine, his voice light, almost conversational, pure cold control masking the fury underneath. "Throw me the sword."
Corvine obeyed, and Voren caught it, looking at the blood on the blade with a smile at the corner of his lips, a cold, dangerous curve that didn’t reach his eyes, pure lethal focus in the expression.
"Four times three is twelve." He casually counted what remained on the floor with the sword, even as the expressions of the men around Battal grew hard, their faces tight with rage that filled the air with pure threat.
"This is nine, so I need three more to compensate for the warriors you and your men attacked in my pack land."
Then he pursed his lips like he was in deep thought, his eyes distant, calculating, pure cold strategy behind the calm.
"For my daughter, your filthy warrior who dared to lay his filthy hand on her is gone." He pointed at the remains on the ground with the sword, his voice flat, emotionless, pure finality in the statement.
Battal’s teeth gritted together, wondering if Voren was really a werewolf, if he was really one of the creatures they had hunted and drained for centuries. Pure shock mixed with rising fury on his face.
This man was more barbaric than the Lycans, more ruthless, more terrifying. And before Battal could speak, Voren continued in an annoyingly calm tone, his voice carrying across the clearing, pure cold promise in every word.
"But since you wanted her, it’s your life on the line. For what you did to my nanny, that is also your life."
He frowned slightly, his brow furrowing as if he was remembering something unpleasant.
"I remember seeing your hand in her chest. You wanted to rip her heart, so I’ll make you lose your hand first, then an eye and a leg, before I remove your heart and send you to your so-called underground fortress to see what a piece of shit their king is in the hands of werewolves."
Battal’s blood boiled at Voren’s insult, his face contorting with rage, but he noticed that the white wolf and the hybrid were all there, standing with him.
However, two of his strongest protectors were also in the shadows waiting, their presence a hidden threat that left him with a flicker of cold calculation.
"Kill them all!" he yelled, his voice cracking with fury that left no room for control.
Even if they killed the white wolf, they could still go for the younger one – she was more powerful.
And instantly, the clash of strength and power began, the clearing erupting into chaos.
The members of the Lycan army were more than the members of Voren’s team, so this wasn’t going to be one to one but some three on one, and others two to one. Pure overwhelming numbers pressed against them.
Voren’s team had no time to strategize, no time to plan, and they realized too late that the members of the Lycan army were stronger than any of the Lycans they had fought with except for Battal himself. Pure urgency flooded every movement.
The outlanders could only watch, knowing that their strength could not match the Lycans, knowing that they would only be a liability. Pure helplessness settled over them.
Voren faced Battal, but Seraphine could not be his backup this time. She had to fight another army member because they were more than the leaders, because there was no other choice. Pure necessity drove her into the fray.
Kael and Damon took on different warriors as well, leaving Liah, Jasmine, Quinn, and Oriana standing, their faces pale, their hearts pounding with pure fear for the ones they loved.
Jasmine could not fight without her wolf, and she hadn’t even undergone the special leaders’ training against the Lycans.
Liah had, but with Damon in the war, she was the only one who could direct Quinn as Oriana was busy neutralizing dark spells, her voice low and rhythmic, her hands weaving patterns in the air, pure ancient focus in every gesture.
In the beginning, the Lycans seemed to be dominating, their strength overwhelming, their movements fluid and deadly. But Oriana felt the strange power in the air and knew black magic was at play, a dark current running beneath the surface of the battle. Pure recognition of the threat sharpened her efforts.
She began to neutralize them, but even as Liah nudged Quinn to drain some specific Lycans, she seemed to be in a daze and did not act on Liah’s words for the first time, her eyes empty, her body still. Pure alarm rose in Liah’s chest.
"Quinn, you are gonna watch your mate die!" Liah yelled, her voice cracking with desperation that cut through the noise of battle.
Jasmine felt helpless, only hoping the werewolves would not be defeated, only hoping they would survive this. Pure silent prayer filled her heart.
Then Quinn began to use her powers, but it wasn’t what Liah had instructed. She began to drain Voren and Seraphine, their energy flowing into her, their strength weakening. Pure horror flashed across every face that saw it.
Liah was afraid, turning to Oriana as the latter smiled, a knowing, ancient smile that carried quiet certainty.
"Luna Oriana, you have to do something."
Oriana paused what she was doing and directed her attention at Quinn, her eyes sharp, her voice steady, pure calm authority cutting through the panic.
"It’s black magic manipulation. She needs her mate."
"But we are already outnumbered. Damon can’t leave the fight." Liah said, almost in tears, her voice cracking with fear that left her trembling.
The fight was not going in favor of the werewolves, and it was clear that neither Seraphine nor Voren were using their powers either. The atmosphere was thick with black magic, a suffocating weight that pressed down on them all. Pure desperation filled the air.
Little did they know that as Oriana was countering one wizard’s powers, another one was sending more incantations, a relentless assault that never stopped. Pure hidden pressure built beneath the surface.
Then her wolf spoke in her mind, a voice of calm in the chaos that cut through the fear.
’Did you forget your powers, Liah?’
Liah froze, the words hitting her like a storm, pure recognition flooding through her.
Indeed, she was a love wolf.
She quickly embraced Quinn and whispered in her ear, her voice soft but firm, pure love and belonging poured into every word.
"Quinn. We are the ones who love you. This is where you belong."
Quinn froze in Liah’s arms, her body going still, her eyes flickering with something that looked almost like recognition, pure conflict tearing through the black magic’s hold.
And that was when everything began to change.
