Chapter 802: Chapter 802 – The New Alpha Code

Voren glanced at the phone once more before turning his attention back to Ravyn. "Why would I make that decision for them when they’ve just been given the opportunity to make it themselves?"

Ravyn frowned, clearly confused by his response. "What opportunity?"

"Didn’t you read what they were discussing? They’re finally admitting that they’ve done terrible things, and I’d like to see how many of them are brave enough to repeat those confessions in front of their own pack members."

Corvine’s expression tightened as he considered the implications of Voren’s words. "Are you planning to make them confess publicly?"

Voren smiled faintly. "Of course, provided they’ve genuinely changed or are at least willing to make things right. Those who come forward will be given the opportunity to make amends for their actions, but those who continue lying will have their secrets exposed for them."

"I doubt many of them will take that opportunity. These Alphas are too proud, and their egos are enormous," Ravyn remarked thoughtfully.

Voren merely shrugged before turning to Corvine. "There are going to be some changes. I’m taking Damon and Kael away from you, so from this moment on, you can start training Augustine and Callum to take over as your Betas. However, to ensure the other pack members don’t feel excluded, make the vacancies public and allow anyone qualified to compete for the positions."

Corvine was about to ask something, but Voren seemed to have anticipated his question because he continued before the other man could speak.

"That’s the plan, but I want to discuss it with my queen first. If she agrees, then the Gammas can compete for the Beta positions as well. Damon and Kael will be traveling from pack to pack with the new Alpha Code, so I need them to be available for that responsibility."

Ravyn liked the sound of the arrangement, but he wanted to understand exactly what Voren had in mind before drawing his own conclusions.

"Voren, I don’t think I’ll see you again until Daisy gives birth, so you’d better explain the details of this new Alpha Code to me while I still have you here."

Voren didn’t object. Instead, he leaned back slightly and began explaining the plan.

"It’s quite simple. Any Alpha who betrays his pack for personal gain will be given two options. Step down voluntarily or confess his crimes before his pack members. If the members forgive him and still want him to lead them, he’ll be required to sign a new code of conduct before continuing as their Alpha. However, if the pack refuses to accept him, we’ll appoint a temporary Alpha to manage things until the members have the opportunity to choose their own permanent leader."

"What happens if the pack members grow fond of the temporary Alpha and decide they want him to remain in charge?" Corvine asked, raising a question Voren hadn’t initially considered.

Voren frowned slightly, taking a moment to think about the possibility before answering.

"Now that you’ve mentioned it, we’ll have to include a clause to prevent that from happening. I’ve invested too much time and effort into training my Betas to start losing them to other packs simply because they’re sent there temporarily."

Ravyn finally burst out laughing, shaking his head as he looked at the king. The Voren he had thought was becoming a different man hadn’t changed nearly as much as he had imagined. No matter how generous or accommodating he became, he was still the same man who knew the value of capable people and had no intention of letting go of his best assets without a fight.

"And here I was, thinking you had changed."

Voren gave him a knowing look. "Ravyn, you have no idea how many secrets my leaders are carrying. It’s much safer for them to remain here where I can keep an eye on them."

Corvine smiled, clearly impressed by the direction of the conversation and the thought Voren had already put into the new system.

"I can help you draft the new constitution, but are there any other clauses you want included?"

"We’ll come up with more once the first draft is ready. For instance, if an Alpha confesses his wrongdoing and the pack members still want him to remain in power, we’ll help the pack recover and get back on its feet, but they’ll have to pay for that assistance, with interest, of course. Making everything free will only encourage laziness, and we can’t have packs depending on the kingdom every time they get themselves into trouble. We also need to include an heirship clause."

"An heirship clause?" Ravyn repeated, looking slightly confused.

Voren nodded before explaining further.

"We’ve already changed our pack constitution. From now on, the titles of King, Alpha, and Beta will no longer be passed down automatically through inheritance. Once the supposed heirs reach the appropriate age, the positions will be open for competition, and they’ll have to prove they’re qualified to hold those titles rather than expecting them to be handed over simply because of their bloodline."

Ravyn nodded thoughtfully, clearly appreciating the idea. He was about to add something when a sweet little voice interrupted them from the entrance of the pack.

"Daddy."

Esperanza approached them, tapping her wrist as though she were reminding him of an important appointment.

"Time, time! You must be starving by now, and Uncle Corvine too. You both need to shower first."

The three men smiled at the little girl, but Ravyn’s eyes immediately became glassy as he looked at her. He quickly cleared his throat and spoke before anyone could notice how emotional he had become.

"I’ll add that to my constitution too. It will force every supposed heir to work harder, become smarter, and prove that they’re worthy of whatever position they hope to occupy."

He reached over and gave Voren’s shoulder a friendly clap.

"I’m glad we had this conversation. I’ll keep tabs on Battal and let you know about his condition as soon as I have any updates."

With that, Ravyn turned his attention to Esperanza, his expression softening as he addressed her.

"Espe, Uncle Ravyn won’t keep your daddy any longer."

She smiled politely at him, her little face bright with innocence. "Thank you, Alpha Ravyn. But are you hungry?"

Ravyn was genuinely tempted by the offer, especially with the way she looked at him, but he knew he needed to maintain some distance before he became too attached to the little girl.

"No, sweetheart. I didn’t go to war with your daddy, so I don’t deserve a meal at his expense. I’ll be leaving now."

With one final glance at Esperanza, he turned and disappeared into the woods.

Voren watched him leave before walking toward the entrance and scooping the little girl into his arms. He settled her comfortably against his chest, studying her face with an amused smile.

"Something tells me you’ve been cooking."

Esperanza giggled, wrapping her little arms around his neck as she shook her head.

"No, Daddy. The chef did."

Corvine excused himself and headed back to his suite, while Voren carried Esperanza to his own quarters. However, the moment he stepped inside with her in his arms, he noticed the bright smile on Seraphine’s face, and his expression immediately softened.

"V, surprise!"
