Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 668 - 658: Hello 16
The two of them, having successfully passed the buck, were now completely relaxed.
At that moment, the bubbles in the Time Black Water were growing more numerous and larger. Seeing that whatever was inside was about to emerge, the two of them decisively chose to flee.
"You think this counts as completing the mission?" Kai York asked as they flew.
"It should," Moira Lynch said. "Besides, the planetary consciousness never said we couldn’t call for backup."
"I’m not talking about the planetary consciousness. I mean the Cosmic Consciousness. What if it doesn’t recognize our work?"
"Who cares if it does or not? Worst-case scenario, we just have to stay here for ten days. Our mission is survival, not saving the world. As long as we’re alive, we’re good."
"Besides, you don’t actually think our part is over once the Interstellar Federation gets here, do you?"
"Isn’t it?" Kai York asked, surprised. "Don’t tell me we have to act as their guides."
"Not exactly. But we’ve been in the deep contamination zone for so long that even with our 5S-grade battle armor, and even if we’ve cleared ourselves of any issues, we’ll still have to go through at least a month of quarantine observation for safety. We’ll need a deep disinfection, too."
As she spoke, Moira Lynch forwarded him the quarantine manual Ellers had just sent her.
Kai York took a moment to glance at the densely packed manual, and his vision swam.
In despair, he asked, "Can’t we be an exception?"
"If you want to be hunted down as a contaminant, then sure, you can. But just a friendly reminder, contaminants aren’t even allowed on Javell."
After all, while the people who go there are all desperados, they don’t actually have a death wish.
Following the Intelligent Brain location data from Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch, the two quickly found their current whereabouts.
When they arrived, they saw Carole Underwood seated on a massive golden lotus. Her features were gentle, her expression one of compassion, her eyes closed tight as a faint golden light radiated from her.
"What’s going on with her?" the two asked in low voices after landing.
"No idea. Looks like she achieved instant enlightenment or something," Shane Rhodes said, looking at them. "Speaking of which, why are you two back? Weren’t you supposed to be cleaning up the shadow monsters?"
The two recounted the whole story from beginning to end.
"Anyway, we’ve already sent a distress signal to the Federation. They should be here soon, so all we have to do is wait."
"Is that Time Black Water really so powerful?" Hugh Finch asked.
Moira Lynch shook her head. "I don’t know if the water itself is powerful, but we can’t handle whatever’s inside it with our strength. If we mess up, we’ll just get ourselves filthy. And besides, the thing gestating in there is the real deal."
Perhaps because the matter was so urgent, it only took a day for Moira Lynch to receive a call from Ellers.
She opened the video feed, and Ellers’s face appeared on the other end. With him were two men and one woman, all of whom exuded a terrifying aura.
Moira Lynch recognized the three of them—they were the Federation’s three Marshals. She never expected all of them to show up.
In her original plan, she had Patience’s three bionic entities go find the three Marshals separately, but she knew the chances of them actually getting to see the Marshals were slim.
That was why she had prepared a weapon for them—one she’d made herself—to attract attention while also revealing her identity.
However, in her original plan, even if the three Marshals took this very seriously, she had expected them to send a deputy at most. After all, they were incredibly busy every day.
"Moira, where are you guys now? Still in the contamination center?" Ellers asked.
Moira Lynch nodded. "We are, but we’re safe for now." As she spoke, she panned the camera to show Carole Underwood behind her, continuously purifying the area.
Seeing Carole Underwood glowing with golden light, Ellers and the three people behind him all showed expressions of utter shock.
"Holy Light!"
"Moira, where did you find such a treasure? She even has a Holy Light talent! That’s a talent that can purify all filth," Ellers said excitedly.
"However, this planet’s pollution is even more severe than we imagined. Even with Holy Light, it probably won’t be enough to solve the planet’s pollution problem in a short amount of time."
On the spaceship, Ellers looked at the report he had just received. As he read through the list of pollution sources and their levels, his brows furrowed so tightly you could’ve squashed a fly between them.
’It’s really too severe. It’s hard to imagine that a planet with such heavy pollution could still exist at this point in time.’
No exaggeration, any random Garbage Star had a better environment than this planet.
"I’ll send someone to pick you up in a bit. Leave the rest to us."
Standing behind Ellers, a tall, slender man with an oppressive presence spoke up.
The man’s brow was slightly furrowed, but his gaze remained fixed on Moira Lynch. For some reason, he felt this girl gave him an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
The moment he saw her, he felt happy.
In contrast, Moira Lynch disliked Yarrow the moment she saw him. Even though his looks and physique were flawlessly perfect, she just didn’t like him.
Not only did she dislike him, but she also felt angry, with an impulse to rush over and beat him up.
Soon, a small, silver spaceship descended from the sky. The ship’s hatch slowly opened, and Moira Lynch and the others walked up one by one.
As for Carole Underwood, she refused to leave with them.
She gave Shane Rhodes a deep look, as if to burn his face into her memory, then decisively closed her eyes and re-entered her previous meditative state.
After boarding the spaceship, before they could even breathe a sigh of relief, they were immediately sent to the disinfection chamber.
They had to strip off all their clothes for new ones, their mechas were thoroughly disinfected, and the Space Buttons they carried were objects of special scrutiny.
This was done to prevent anyone from unintentionally carrying away contaminated items.
Sometimes, a catastrophe can be triggered by something very, very small.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch seemed to think of something. With a thought, she discarded the two Aetherwing corpses she had previously stored in her subspace.
’It’s better not to have them,’ she thought.
After being disinfected inside and out and undergoing a full-body examination, they were finally taken to the spaceship’s main bridge.
However, even after confirming they showed no signs of infection, they were still kept in quarantine.
The only difference was that instead of being isolated in a fixed location, they were now inside an isolation sphere.
