Chapter 311: Chapter 159: Surging Tide

Zombies surged forward like a tide.

It wasn’t dozens, or even hundreds. They were an endless stream, pouring out from all directions. Some sprinted on all fours, some bulldozed ahead with heavy strides, and others weaved through the horde, their bodies hunched over.

Wave after wave of zombies crested, threatening to completely drown the three humans.

Xu Mo stood at the very front, his Triangular Spike held horizontally before him, like a reef standing against the tide.

Half a step behind him, Luo Li held tightly to Tiantian’s hand. An invisible wave of Spiritual Power was already spreading out from her, blanketing the horde ahead like a giant, unseen net.

"Luo Li."

Xu Mo’s voice was calm.

Luo Li didn’t answer, but her eyelashes trembled slightly.

On their way here, Xu Mo and Luo Li had already agreed on a tactic. They would use Luo Li’s control ability to fight for command over the zombies the moment the horde charged, wresting it from "that thing."

The goal wasn’t to actually seize control of the zombies—this was the enemy’s home turf, after all. It was simply to make them falter. Even an instant’s pause would be enough.

The first to charge were five agile, level-one zombies, their speed on all fours astonishingly fast. Before they even neared Xu Mo and the others, their sharp claws were raised, fangs were bared, and frenzied roars erupted from their throats...

Then, all at once, their movements faltered.

Even if the pause lasted only half a second, during a full-speed sprint, it was enough to make them lose their balance—enough to create an opening in their charge.

Xu Mo moved. His figure was like a bolt of lightning. He took a single step forward, and the Triangular Spike carved a cold arc through the air.

In Xu Mo’s hand, the Triangular Spike became a deadly stream of light, each thrust piercing a skull with absolute precision. The zombies hadn’t even recovered from that half-second pause before they became corpses, collapsing limply to the ground.

Black blood gushed from the holes in their foreheads, forming a small puddle on the muddy ground.

Xu Mo withdrew his Triangular Spike and returned to his original position. The entire process took less than two seconds.

Luo Li’s eyelashes fluttered again. It was the first time she and Xu Mo had coordinated, and they were still a bit unpracticed, but on the whole, it was a success.

"Again," Xu Mo said.

In fact, even without Xu Mo saying anything, the second wave of zombies was already charging.

This time there were seven of them: three agile level-ones, two power level-ones, and two level-two variants. Their speeds varied, making the rhythm of their assault even more chaotic.

Luo Li’s wave of Spiritual Power spread out once more.

The moment the zombies entered a ten-meter radius, her Spiritual Power suddenly constricted, and all seven zombies faltered at once.

The pause was even shorter than the first. Luo Li was clearly conserving her Spiritual Power, unwilling to expend too much on any single wave.

But for Xu Mo, it was enough. His figure flashed out again, the Triangular Spike like the Grim Reaper’s scythe, reaping lives from the horde.

The Triangular Spike spun in Xu Mo’s hand—thrusting, retracting, and thrusting again, each movement precisely piercing a skull. The zombies’ claws came within inches of his body, yet they could never touch him.

As the last zombie fell, Xu Mo was already back in his original position. The black blood on the ground had formed a larger pool, and the corpses were piling into a small mound.

The third wave.

The fourth wave.

The fifth wave.

Xu Mo and Luo Li’s coordination grew more and more proficient.

Luo Li learned to release her Spiritual Power at the most opportune moment. She only needed to cause the slightest falter in the zombies’ movements.

Xu Mo, in turn, learned to strike the very instant Luo Li released her Spiritual Power. He no longer needed to wait or observe; he didn’t even need to use his eyes. He only had to sense the spreading wave of her power, and his body would react automatically.

The Triangular Spike in Xu Mo’s hand moved faster and more fluidly.

The zombies charged forward in waves, and in waves, they fell. Each had a finger-sized hole in its forehead from which black blood gushed, soon forming a viscous layer of gore on the ground.

Xu Mo led Luo Li and Tiantian forward, step by step.

The ground underfoot was soaked through with black blood, soft and spongy to the touch, making a SQUELCHING sound with every step. The air was thick with the nauseating reek of blood mixed with the stench of rot, but Xu Mo’s brow never even furrowed.

He simply advanced, step by step. The Triangular Spike flashed out like lightning, and the zombies fell, one after another.

As they drew closer and closer to their target, Xu Mo lost count of how many he had killed. ’Fifty? A hundred? Two hundred?’ His Triangular Spike was caked in so much black blood that its metallic luster was completely gone. But his steps remained steady, his breathing remained even, and his gaze remained as cold as ice.

The immense vitality of the Iron Bone Realm coursed through his body, providing him with a ceaseless supply of strength. The kind of high-intensity slaughter that would have once exhausted him now felt like a simple routine.

Pulled along by Xu Mo, Luo Li focused all her energy on maintaining the diffusion of her Spiritual Power and sensing the zombies’ movements.

Tiantian stayed close by Luo Li’s side, her small body weaving through the mountain of corpses and sea of blood. Her eyes were still blood-red, but they were no longer vacant. Instead, they held an indescribable focus. She was helping Luo Li amplify her power, while also sensing her surroundings in her own unique way.

Another wave of zombies was cut down. Xu Mo flicked the black blood from his Triangular Spike and continued to advance.

Then Xu Mo noticed something. In this latest wave, the number of level-one variants had clearly decreased.
