The wound on his other teammate put him on even higher alert. He had seen that kind of wound before; it was made by a Triangular Spike. A weapon like that punches a three-sided hole in a person, making the bleeding impossible to stop. Anyone who could kill with a Triangular Spike was a close-quarters combat expert.

“Two people? One with a sniper rifle and one with a Triangular Spike?” Liu asked.

Zhou Hai shook his head. “It was probably the same person.”

He pointed at the tracks on the ground. “Look. The sniper rifle casing is here, and the kill with the Triangular Spike happened over there. If it were two people, there’d be two sets of footprints. But there’s only one.”

Liu frowned. “One person, using both a sniper rifle and a Triangular Spike?”

Zhou Hai didn’t answer, but he had already made his judgment.

‘This person is an expert.’

And based on the tracks left behind, after killing his two teammates, the person had driven southeast. Less than half an hour had passed, so he couldn’t be far.

“Do we chase him?” Liu asked.

Zhou Hai was silent for a few seconds.

‘Logically, the most rational move is to retreat. His strength is unknown; chasing him blindly could be a death sentence. But our teammates… we’ve been through hell and back for over half a year, and they just die like this? We’re not even going to get revenge?’

‘Besides, this person killed our men. If we don’t give chase, how can we keep our standing? If word gets out, our team’s reputation will be ruined.’

After chasing for over twenty minutes, they finally spotted a black SUV on the road ahead.

Liu was hot-headed and couldn’t hold back the moment she saw the vehicle.

Zhou Hai tried to stop her, but Liu had already fired. The shot missed, and then they saw the vehicle swerve violently off the road.

Zhou Hai immediately felt something was wrong. Instead of speeding up to escape, the target had plunged into the wilderness—clearly looking for a place to counter-attack. Just as he was about to warn Zhang to be careful, he saw the vehicle ahead slam on its brakes. A figure then rolled out of the car and vanished into the tall grass.

“Stop the car!” Zhou Hai yelled, but it was too late.

A gunshot rang out, and a spray of blood erupted from Zhang’s head. The car spun out of control. Then he heard another shot. Looking back, he saw that Liu was dead too.

Zhou Hai lay prone in the tall grass, a complex, shocked expression on his face.

‘That person’s reflexes are too fast. From stopping the car to firing the first shot, the whole process took less than two seconds.’

‘And the order of his shots was deliberate. First, the driver, to make the car lose control. Then, the front passenger, to eliminate the most immediate threat. Last, the back seat, leaving no time for the enemy to react. Every step was perfectly calculated.’

‘And the most terrifying part is, after firing, he immediately changed his position.’

‘An expert,’ Zhou Hai thought, alarm bells ringing in his mind.

Realizing he was up against an expert, Zhou Hai decided to lure the snake from its hole. He estimated the enemy’s general position based on the bullet’s trajectory and immediately returned fire.

His goal wasn’t to hit the enemy; Zhou Hai knew the man had already moved. All he had to do was reveal a false position to bait the other guy into revealing his own.

He’d used this trick many times. As soon as his opponent fired, he could pinpoint their position from the trajectory and return fire. None of the people he’d faced before had ever escaped this move.

But this time, after waiting for nearly a minute, there was still no movement from the other side.

Zhou Hai frowned. ‘Something’s not right with this guy.’

‘He must know I’m waiting for him to shoot, so he’s deliberately not firing. That level of self-control isn’t something an ordinary person has.’

‘Ran into a tough one,’ Zhou Hai thought. But he wasn’t worried, because he had backup.

At this thought, a strange smile appeared on Zhou Hai’s face as he glanced to his front-left.

There was someone there.

Xu Mo lay in the tall grass, completely still.

Time ticked by, second by second. The only sound was the rustling of grass in the wind. He could no longer hear any movement from his opponent, nor could he see his position. But he knew: the man was somewhere to his front-left, lying in wait, just like him.

It was a contest of patience. The first to move would be the one to lose.

Xu Mo held his breath. He had chosen his position well. A small patch of particularly tall grass in front of him concealed his figure perfectly. From the other man’s direction, he should be impossible to spot.

But just then, Xu Mo heard something.

RUSTLE, RUSTLE.

That wasn’t the sound of the wind in the grass. It was the sound of someone moving through it. The sound was faint and slow, but Xu Mo’s ears caught it. It was coming from his right.

Xu Mo’s brow furrowed. He tilted his head slightly, glancing to the right with his peripheral vision. There was nothing but wild grass. The blades swayed in the wind, making a rustling sound, but the sound of movement seemed to be mixed in with it, faint and intermittent.

‘Is it just the wind?’ Xu Mo wondered. ‘Or is it…’

Suddenly, a gust of wind picked up.

It was stronger than before, making the tall grass sway violently. The blades bent and twisted, rustling even louder.

In that gust of wind, Xu Mo’s eyes suddenly sharpened. In his peripheral vision, the swaying grass to his right had revealed an outline—the outline of a person.

The figure was about thirty meters to his right, curled up and motionless in the grass. If the wind hadn’t parted the blades and revealed his form, Xu Mo never would have noticed him.

But what shocked Xu Mo most was that the person was transparent. His body blended completely into the air, making him utterly invisible to the naked eye.

‘A Superpower User!?’

Alarm bells screamed in Xu Mo’s mind. And a Superpower User who could turn invisible at that!
