The Abyssal Cetus watched, powerless, as the Moon Blade split into two, then three, then countless copies, all hurtling toward it in a single, massive wave.

...

A moment later, Perry Yates looked at the Abyssal Cetus on the ground, which was practically sliced into sashimi. She then glanced at the still-restless Moon Blade beside her and couldn’t help but swallow.

’This victory felt a little too easy. Was this really the same Abyssal Cetus that had been trading blows with me just moments ago?’

She had a feeling that if she hadn’t already fused several five-star cards to anchor her power, she might not have been able to control the Moon Blade in its current state.

After raising a hand to recall the Moon Blade, another option appeared before Perry Yates.

This time, she chose the Space-Time Gate. It was perfect for getting around, and she could also use it in coordination with her Moon Blade—the best of both worlds.

[All Croupiers’ Third Card Unlock Mission: Kill ten Executors. Current Task Progress: 2]

Perry Yates stroked her chin and murmured, "Looks like this third card mission is a shared one for all the players."

Looking again at the completion count of two, she realized that besides herself, one other person had also killed an Executor.

After the Abyssal Cetus was killed, a lot of equipment dropped, but the Moon Blade had damaged most of it. There were, however, plenty of usable supplies.

In the end, Perry Yates found five nutrient potions, three Healing Potions, and two blood-flavored Energy Bars on the Abyssal Cetus.

Curious, Perry Yates opened one and took a sniff. A thick, metallic stench of blood instantly flooded her nostrils, almost making her gag.

’This stuff definitely isn’t for people.’

Nevertheless, Perry Yates stowed the Energy Bars away. After all, besides the awful smell, they had no other drawbacks. A single bar could keep a person from feeling hungry or thirsty for an entire day.

’Even if I don’t use them myself, I can always give them to someone else.’

With the Space-Time Gate, Perry Yates began zipping freely across the battlefield. The twin red moons overhead hadn’t vanished yet; she had to use this time to kill more Executors.

Perry Yates now felt that the vast size of the game area wasn’t necessarily a good thing; finding anyone was proving extremely difficult.

After all this time, let alone an Executor, she hadn’t even found a single player.

Just then, a cry for help suddenly rang out from up ahead.

Perry Yates followed the sound with her eyes and saw three people desperately running for their lives. Chasing them were two bizarrely dressed individuals, their arrogant laughter echoing behind them.

They kept launching attacks at the fleeing trio, but they were intentionally missing.

The sound of the trio’s terrified screams only made their pursuers laugh more heartily.

Just as they were about to attack the trio again, a red shadow shot past. Their laughter died in their throats as their now-uncontrolled bodies tumbled to the ground, sliced in half.

The fleeing trio noticed the incessant laughter behind them had vanished and the attacks had ceased. Mustering his courage, one of them turned to check, only to see the bisected corpses and the ground stained green by their blood.

[Task Progress: 4]

That’s when the three of them noticed Perry Yates.

"Thank you for saving us."

Perry Yates waved her hand dismissively. It was nothing.

"By the way, why didn’t you use your cards when you were being chased?"

At Perry Yates’s question, the trio looked embarrassed. "We... haven’t unlocked our first card yet."

"I see."

Perry Yates ignored the trio and walked over to the two corpses to see if they had anything useful.

It was the standard loot: five nutrient potions, three Healing Potions, and two Energy Bars. The only difference was the flavor of the Energy Bars—this time, it was deep-sea fish. Ugh, still smelled terrible.

She glanced back at the two Executor corpses.

The blood flowing from them was green and appeared to be corrosive.

After Perry Yates finished collecting her loot, she saw that the three were still standing in the same spot.

"Is there something else?" she asked.

"Um, we want to team up with you. Don’t worry, we won’t drag you down. Our Card Levels are around three-star. Once we unlock them, we won’t be a burden."

Hearing this, Perry Yates looked at the three of them, hesitated for a moment, but still refused.

"No thanks. I’m not looking to team up right now."

She was, in fact, looking for teammates, but these three were clearly not suitable candidates.

’First of all, they haven’t even unlocked their first card. That means I’d be stuck protecting them for the next hour.’

’Besides, a group of four is a much bigger target.’

’Second, they obviously know each other well. If I joined up, I’d be the outsider in their clique. What’s to stop them from plotting against me?’

’Finally, I have no idea about their combat strength or whether their Card Abilities would even be compatible with mine.’

’If those two Executors hadn’t been toying with them, they would’ve been killed long ago.’

Seeing Perry Yates’s refusal, the trio didn’t press the issue—or rather, they didn’t dare. After all, what Croupier was known for being good-tempered? It wasn’t a bet they were willing to make.

Perry Yates left through her Space-Time Gate, while the three decided to find a place to hide for the next hour to unlock their first card. Only then would they have the power to fight back.

Meanwhile, Perry’s mood brightened considerably as she saw the task progress climb from four to five, and then quickly to six.

’Only four more to go. I hope the rest of the missions are all group tasks like this.’

At the same time, elsewhere, Ethan Fuller, dressed in a well-tailored suit, deftly twisted an Executor’s head clean off. The bloody scene was a stark contrast to his clean suit and leather shoes.

This was probably the definition of a "dapper brute."

Ethan Fuller glanced at the mission progress. The count had reached seven. His expression remained unchanged, as if this were all perfectly normal.

He walked over to the Executor he had just killed and took the supplies from its body: four nutrient potions, one Healing Potion, and two Energy Bars.

He looked at the two blackish-brown Energy Bars in his hand, then glanced at the corpse of the Executor on the ground, which bore a striking resemblance to a dung beetle. Without a moment’s hesitation, Ethan Fuller tossed the Energy Bars away.

He then turned and walked away, adjusting his cuffs as he left. He wasn’t just striking a pose; he was adjusting the settings on his combat suit.

That’s right. The suit he wore was no ordinary garment. It was a five-star item custom-made for him by Perry Yates.
