Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 374: Selection Game 4
Evan Fuller had the same idea as Perry Yates: find allies. This game was clearly not one for solo players. The best approach was to cooperate.
But when it came to cooperation, the choice of partners was crucial.
Although all the players in this game were Croupiers, not all Croupiers were suitable for collaboration, to say nothing of the card-unlocking mechanism.
The mission to unlock the first card was to stay in one place for an hour without being discovered by an Executor.
Evan Fuller didn’t know if the conditions were the same for everyone, but if they were, he wondered how many players could actually succeed.
He needed to find partners who could work together, not ones who would drag him down.
Just as Evan Fuller was thinking, the game system suddenly appeared. First, it announced that the condition to unlock the third card had been met, and the card was now available for him to choose. At the same time, it revealed the unlock condition for the fourth card: kill over five percent of the Executors on the field.
[Mission Progress: 0.5%]
Meanwhile, Perry Yates saw this number and did a quick mental calculation. A moment later, her eyes widened.
This meant that in this game, there were a total of two thousand Executors.
That was no small number.
Perry Yates scratched her head, a slight headache coming on.
With so many Croupiers and Executors appearing at once, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this was some kind of final showdown between the two factions.
Perry Yates shook her head. ’Forget it. I should just focus on finishing the mission and ending this game quickly.’
For her third unlocked card, she chose Pointed Explosion.
Based on the current mission progress of 0.5 percent, five percent meant one hundred Executors.
Just then, another system message popped up.
[The Hunters have detected the deaths of their comrades and are enraged. The Sky Eye System has been activated. The Sky Eye System will automatically capture the images of any players on the battlefield and report their locations to the Hunters.]
Seeing this, Perry Yates immediately realized this was bad. ’What’s the difference between this and having a tracker planted on me?’
As she thought this, before she could even react, that hair-raising feeling crept up behind her again.
The next second, a Space-Time Gate unfurled, and a flaming bullet vanished into an Any Door.
Perry Yates turned to see a handsome man bathed in a golden glow. He had snow-white hair and three pairs of white wings sprouting from his back.
’Is that... an Angel?’
Perry Yates stared at the man in the sky. Even though she considered her willpower to be quite strong, she couldn’t help but be momentarily dazed by his appearance. He was simply a divine masterpiece.
Fair skin, flawless features, a perfect physique... just hovering there, he resembled a perfect statue.
The man flying in the sky saw the look of fascination in Perry Yates’s eyes and snorted with disdain. "Filthy mortal, who gave you permission to gaze upon my divine visage!"
With that, the three pairs of wings behind him suddenly released a golden radiance, and countless golden rays shot toward Perry Yates’s position.
Perry Yates remained standing, seemingly mesmerized. But just in the nick of time, countless Space-Time Gates appeared all around her.
Every single one of the incoming golden rays vanished into the Space-Time Gates without exception.
But it wasn’t over.
As the Space-Time Gates closed, new ones appeared around the man, and the countless golden rays shot out from them.
The man watched his own attack come hurtling back at him, a flicker of shock in his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
He simply raised his hand and blocked the golden attacks.
However, despite this, his arm was now dripping with blood, and even the three pairs of pristine white wings behind him had shed quite a few feathers.
Looking at his injured arm, the shock in the man’s eyes was even greater than before.
’Why!’
Fortunately, the man quickly realized what had happened. Those attacks hadn’t just been his own.
Looking back at Perry Yates, she had already snapped out of her dazed state—or rather, she had never been mesmerized in the first place.
Seeing the injured man, Perry Yates’s eyes lit up. ’A battle-damaged beauty... even more captivating than before, hehe.’
That was what she thought, but her actions showed no mercy.
She glanced up at the moon, then moved her fingers slightly. The next second, several Space Gates appeared around the man again.
A whooshing sound came from within the gates, and in the next moment, countless red-glowing Moon Blades flew out.
At the same time the man was being assaulted by the Moon Blades, Perry Yates flicked her finger, sending a small stone flying.
The instant the stone neared the man, it exploded, and the resulting shockwave sent him flying.
The man’s body slammed heavily onto the ground. His clothes were in tatters, his fair face was smudged with dirt, his once-smooth hair was a mess, and his wings, shredded by the Moon Blades, were now practically bare. He looked utterly pathetic.
Perry Yates looked at the man on the ground and thought, ’And here I thought he was someone powerful. Turns out he’s not all that.’
Perry Yates didn’t feel that she was too strong; she just felt this Executor was far weaker than she had imagined. He lacked the intimidating presence of those in previous games who could destroy one of her five-star cards right at the start.
But she didn’t stop to consider that Executors, to put it bluntly, were also players. They had just entered the game earlier than Croupiers. Even so, not every Executor had a full set of five-star equipment and Skills.
Not only did Perry Yates have them, but every one of her cards was a strengthened, Multi-attribute version. Even her sole four-star card, Moon Blade, was a special attack type with the Absolute Cutting trait, making it more powerful than some five-star cards.
Just as Perry Yates was about to press her advantage, the man on the ground suddenly erupted with a golden light that repelled all the Moon Blades.
Seeing this, Perry Yates merged all the Moon Blades into one enormous Moon Blade, which she had circle around her.
Looking at the man on the ground, she thought, ’Is he about to use his ultimate move?’
The man on the ground’s originally bare wings began to recover. More and more feathers grew back, and the once-white feathers gradually turned black.
The three pairs of black wings fully unfurled, several times larger than before, then wrapped around the man, forming what looked like a black sphere from the outside.
