Chapter 23: More Power!

Alex frowned when he saw the words ’Stage II mutated beast’ and thought about what had happened with the huge wasp.

It was no longer a mutated beast that had gotten bigger and more aggressive. The huge wasp had also gained the ability to emit poisonous gas and acidic droplets from its body.

These mutated beasts were also getting stronger like Alex and his friends were.

He wasn’t sure if all of the mutated beasts were at Stage II now but whatever it is, their journey to the school of Bio-science might be fraught with much tougher mutated beasts to beat.

Alex gave out a sigh when he thought about the bonus.

He was glad that he could now manifest his storage portal within a 5 meter range.

Previously, he could only do so at a range that was close to him.

But with the extended range, he was able to fight with much more flexibility than before.

"These mutated beasts had gotten much stronger than before, so we better be more alert." Alex said to the others and they nodded their heads at him.

He walked over to the burning charred body of the huge wasp and sliced out a part of its body.

"What are you doing that for?" Terry pointed at the body of the huge wasp with a face of grimace.

"I’m thinking that the researchers in the school of Bio-science might be interested in a mutated beast that is in a latter stage than the rats we gave them yesterday." Alex kept the piece of flesh from the huge wasp in his backpack and said.

"And we better move on." He said and the others got ready.

Riley took the lead and Terry with Brian got behind him.

Once they got back into formation, they continued on their journey towards the school of Bio-science once again.

When they walked past some other buildings in the campus, they were greeted with pleas from the students that had barricaded themselves inside the building.

But most of them were hungry and thirsty without food and water for a day.

The sight of Alex and the others daring enough to walk around outside was astonishing to them.

"Please help us!"

"I can buy all the water and food you have on you."

"We will pay five times the amount for it."

Many of them wanted to buy some food and water from Alex and the others.

Brian sighed when he thought about all the money they could have made if they sold the water and food to them, if not for the fact that money would be largely useless now.

"Should we help them?" Terry asked and Alex shook his head.

"Unless they have something valuable for us, like equipment or other essentials that we need." Alex said and explained his rationale, "If we help some of them without any condition, they will in turn become the target of the others when things turn even more desperate than it is now.

"The only way to ensure that everyone would be satisfied is for us to help everyone, but we don’t have enough resources to do so."

Terry understood his concerns and nodded his head.

They continued to move along and they glanced over at the cafeteria that was in a mess for a moment when they got past it.

"We will try and see if there’s anything left when we are on our way back." Alex said and the others nodded their heads vigorously.

It would be a welcomed bonus if they were able to have some fresh meat and vegetables instead of the MRE ration packs.

Alex glanced into the cafeteria and saw that there were some bodies lying on the ground inside, but he didn’t sense any mutated beasts that were hiding within.

And so, they continued on their journey.

They were only a few hundred meters away from the school of Bio-science when Alex heard a loud shriek in the distance.

He couldn’t recognize what it was that made the loud shriek, but it only meant one thing.

"Everyone get ready." Alex said and everyone glanced around warily.

Rustle.

The tall bushes lining the path in the distance rustled suddenly.

Then, the rustling stopped.

And before Riley could react, a few chimpanzees that were much taller than he was leaped out from the bushes and they hurled something at him.

Bubbles appeared and surrounded Riley.

Boom!

When the things that were hurled at Riley hit onto his bubbles, the bubbles exploded.

And there was flesh and blood that splattered into the surroundings.

The chimpanzees had hurled the severed heads of some unfortunate students at him like projectiles.

But it was not over.

"EEK." One of the chimpanzees gave out a shriek and more of them came at Alex and the others from the side.

Alex quickly shouted, "Brian and Terry, take down those from the left!"

He turned to his right and fired at the chimpanzee that was coming at him with his pistol.

Bang!

The shot hit onto the face of the chimpanzee but it could only lodge itself into the skin of it, unable to penetrate through the bone of the chimpanzee.

Alex, however, had expected this.

A storage portal had appeared on top of the head of the chimpanzee while he fired his pistol.

Acidic droplets started to rain down on the head of the chimpanzee from it.

Sizzle.

When the acidic droplets touched onto the head of the chimpanzee, it started to burn and get through the skin, flesh and bone of it.

"EEK!" The chimpanzee shrieked in pain.

It raised its fists and they started to turn into rocks before it lunged at Alex and slammed down its fists at him.

Whoosh.

The fists of the chimpanzee became closer and closer in his vision.
