Chapter 37: Level Up?!

Alex and his friends walked cautiously along the path towards the school of medicine, and the atmosphere was much more different than the day before.

Instead of students asking them if they had any food or water, there were only screams and shouting from students that were hiding inside of the buildings.

The social order had started to collapse.

Those who were thirsty and hungry started using violent means to get whatever water or food they could from the others.

However, this was only the beginning and things were bound to get so much worse.

Alex and his friends remained focused on their mission and they continued on their way towards the destination.

It didn’t take long for them to have an encounter with the mutated beasts.

"Get ready." Alex said when he sensed a few mutated beasts coming their way.

Growl.

A familiar low growl could be heard and a few of the mutated wolves appeared in front of him.

They were now even larger than they were previously.

Staring at Alex and his friends with their bloodshot eyes, the mutated wolves gave out another low growl before they opened their mouths at Alex and his friends.

Fireballs that were at least two meters in diameter appeared in front of their mouths.

Whoosh.

The fireballs shot at Alex and his friends.

Thankfully, Alex and his friends were prepared for this.

Riley, who was standing at the lead, used his ability and Bubbles appeared in front of him.

Then, the bubbles flew at the fireballs that were coming in his direction.

Boom!

The bubbles exploded when they encountered the fireballs and the fireballs went up in flames before they dissipated.

Shockwave from the explosion rippled outwards and it made the mutated wolves give out a howl in pain.

Their bodies began to give out an amber glow and flames engulfed them in the next moment.

Whoosh.

When they were engulfed in flames, all of the mutated wolves lunged at Alex and his friends.

Alex leaped to the side when the mutated wolf’s paw came slashing down at him.

A trail of flame followed and it burned everything in its path until it stopped over ten meters away.

The wolf growled and showed its fangs at Alex.

It wanted to turn to its side to where he was, but before it could do so, a slit appeared on top of the wolf’s head.

Alex had unleashed his ability onto the wolf.

Growl.

Not knowing what it was, the wolf lifted its head up at the slit.

It was the worst thing that it could do.

In the next moment, the slit opened up into a portal.

Before the wolf could react, silver flashes appeared from within.

Sharp metallic rods shot out from the portal and they plunged into the head of the wolf in the next moment.

Splatter.

Blood and flesh splattered out from the wounds but they were vaporized immediately by the flames engulfing it.

Its eyes, mouth, forehead were struck and the sharp metallic rods were sticking out from its head, making it look like a porcupine.

Sharp pain from the wounds, caused the mutated wolf to thrash its head around, trying to get rid of all the sharp metallic rods.

But it was to no avail.

The sharp metallic rods remained where they were.

Roar.

The mutated wolf got frustrated and it gave out a loud roar.

Flames that were engulfing its body doubled in size and intensity.

The flame also turned into blue flames, and the sharp metallic rods started to melt.

It even began to melt the concrete ground that the wolf was standing on.

And with the sharp metallic rods finally gone, the mutated wolf turned its focus back onto Alex.

However, Alex was ready and he gave it no chance to spring another attack on him.

A wave of Bubbles flew out from the portal at the mutated wolf.

Boom!

The bubbles exploded when they hit into the flames of the mutated wolf.

Initially the flames held on, protecting the mutated wolf from the impact of the explosions.

But the bubbles were too numerous and the flames started to waver when the next round of bubbles exploded onto it.

Soon, the flames died off for a few moments.

When he saw what happened, Alex quickly unleashed another wave of bubbles at the mutated wolf.

Splatter.

Without any protection from the flames, blood, chunks of flesh and bones from the wolf’s head were blown off by the explosion.

The bones and flesh of the mutated wolf were exposed.

It thrashed around in pain but it was not over yet.

Yet another wave of bubbles descended down onto it from Alex’s portal.

Boom!

This time, the explosion successfully took off most of the head of the wolf.

The headless body started to stagger aimlessly, and it stumbled onto the pavement and fell to its side.

Sizzle.

The flames that were still burning on its body, started to burn and melt everything it touched.

Slowly, the flames died down and Alex quickly turned around to check on his friends.

Brian was having a tougher time than the others while Terry and Riley were able to handle the mutated wolves much more easily with their abilities.

It frustrated Brian a lot and when the mutated wolf that was coming at him, snapped at him with its sharp fangs, Brian gave all that he got at it.

Whoosh.

Pillars of blue fire rose from the ground and they surrounded the mutated wolf.

Then, they closed in on the wolf, trapping it within.

The mutated wolf tried to get out from the enclosed area desperately.

But when its paw touched onto the pillar of fire, the fire from the pillars was able to burn through the flames that were engulfing the mutated wolf.

And the paw was burnt into oblivion by it.

Brian didn’t stop and he made the pillars of fire get closer and closer to the mutated wolf.

Without anywhere else to go, the mutated wolf was trapped and burnt by the pillars of fire.

The mutated wolf twitched and it thrashed around while the pillars of fire slowly turned it into a charred mass of burning flesh.

Plop.

When it was finally over, the mutated wolf dropped to the ground and the pillars of fire dissipated.

"What in the world?!" Terry and Riley saw what Brian did and they didn’t want to be outdone by him.
