Chapter 49: New Comer

Alex raised his eyebrows at what was happening.

The pot of plant that was in Patricia’s hand started to shake and the plant twitched vigorously.

Crack.

After a few moments, the roots of the plant broke through the pot and the rest of the plant started to grow taller and became larger.

Flower buds appeared on the branches next and after a while, they opened up and bloomed.

"Impressive," Alex exclaimed when he saw what Patricia could do.

Although it was an ability that didn’t seem to be powerful like what the others had, if she joined his team, they would then be able to start having live crops as a stable food source with her ability.

They could even use the crops as animal feed for them to rear some livestock.

He knew the implications of what it meant and asked, "Did you heard something in your slumber? Are you able to use your ability on a large number of plants?"

"I heard someone saying A Level Plant Enhanced Growth before I woke up. And so far, I’ve only had enough strength to use my ability for around an hour... But I’m sure that I can use it for much longer if I have something to eat," Patricia said and lowered her head.

Alex pondered on what she had said.

At the rate that she was able to make the pot of plant grow, she could have been able to make at least a considerable number of crops grow within an hour.

Considering the fact that she hadn’t had food for a few days, or she might be putting in a much more optimistic estimation than how it was, he figured that he would have to test it out later on.

But he was fine to let them join for now.

Patricia and her friends were the ones taking care of Riley when he was in his slumber so Alex wasn’t too apprehensive about it.

Sometimes you do have to make a bet and this wasn’t too much of a blind bet, after he had seen what Patricia could do.

Finally, he made his decision and said, "I am open to letting you and your friends join.

"But I have to warn you first, that nothing comes for free in here, and you have to put in all the dirty work to get something in return.

"If you don’t, then we shall have to part ways."

"We understand." Patricia and her friends nodded at his condition for them to join.

They were thirsty and starving for the past few days and putting in work for some water and food was nothing compared to the hell they had to go through.

"Great. I welcome you to our dorm building." Alex stretched out his hand towards Terry and said, "Terry here will help to get you settled in."

He knew that Terry was trying to get to know Patricia before the Apocalypse happened, giving him a chance to get to know her right at the moment, was the best he could do for his buddy.

Terry who was stunned for a moment when he heard what Alex had just said, had to be nudged by Alex before coming back to his senses.

He stood up straight and said with a smile to Patricia, "Come with me, there are still some empty rooms on the fifth floor.

"You can see the sunset from the view there...."

Terry showed them the way and brought them into the dorm building while he briefed them on how it worked in the dorm building.

He also proudly mentioned to Patricia how the metallic walls that now surrounded the dorm building were created by him.

Alex shook his head and rolled his eyes at him but he was happy if things worked out for Terry.

After the apocalypse happened, it was nothing but doom and gloom for everyone so far.

A little good news from his good friend would certainly lighten up the mood.

Alex glanced at the buildings around the dorm room which were dark and screams could be heard from within occasionally.

He gave out a sigh before heading back into the dorm building.

Right now, he could only sustain the two hundred odd students inside the dorm building.

He couldn’t help much if he wanted to.

There was only one thing left for him to focus on first.

And that is to see what the new ability was when it was past midnight.

Then, he would have to continue to try and kill as many mutated beasts as he could.

He had a rough idea of where he would go next to accomplish it.

With less and less mutated beasts that was roaming around in the college campus, and having depleted the resources from the cafeteria and convenience stores, he might have to lead a team to venture out of the college campus tomorrow.

He wasn’t sure how varied the rewards from his ability were, hence it was best for him to be prepared for it.

There was a supermarket not too far away.

The goods and items if they were still intact would be able to last them for a long while.

It would also be a bonus for him if he were able to decimate all the mutated beasts that he encountered on the way there.

With this thought in mind, Alex went back to Brian’s room, which was the headquarters for the dorm building now.

Riley and Brian were resting in the room when he entered.

"Where is Terry?" Riley sat up and asked when he saw Alex returning back alone.

"He is giving our new comers a tour of the dorm building as we speak." Alex shrugged and replied.

"You mean David and the medical students?"

"No. It’s someone you are also familiar with."

"Who?"

Alex gave Riley a smirk and said, "Patricia from the Business Building."

Riley frowned when he heard Alex and said, "Don’t tell me our Mr. Casanova is going to succeed after all."

"Who knows." Alex shrugged his shoulders and said.

Knock.

Their conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door.

It was Eddy back with a note in his hand.

"I’ve sent the food and water over to the school of Bio-science as instructed and this is the note that I got back from them."

Alex took the piece of paper from him and read it.

His eyebrows pulled close together as he read what was written on the note.
