Chapter 54: Ride of the Day

After all the injured were taken care of and the bodies of the zombies burnt, Alex was in the room with his friends, Eddy, Lin, David and Patricia.

Lin, who had his forehead bandaged, began and asked, "What happened to all of them? Will it happen to us too?"

Eddy and the others nodded their heads and they glanced over at Alex.

Alex gave out a sigh and he started to brief them on the discovery of what Teresa and her team had made.

Then, there was a few moments of silence.

"You mean they ate the meat of those mutated beasts...." Lin said and gasped out loud.

If they didn’t have the food and water from Alex, they could have been like those zombies by now.

Alex went on and said, "That’s why I got all of you here.

"I need you to brief the others to never consume the meat from those mutated beasts.

"And for the defense of the dorm building, it would be reinforced even more when morning breaks."

The others nodded their heads and gave out a sigh of relief.

Just as things were getting into a familiar routine, it was now disrupted by all these zombies.

If the defense could be enhanced, it was great news for them.

Alex turned at David and asked, "How are the injured doing? Do monitor them and let me know if there’s anything unusual."

He wasn’t sure if those who were injured by the zombies would also be infected and turn into zombies too, so it was better to keep an eye on things.

David nodded his head and said, "We’ve taken care of all of them.

"Most are resting now and so far, there isn’t anything unusual happening."

That gave Alex some peace of mind, but he knew better to be vigilant.

So many odd things had happened ever since the apocalypse and he wouldn’t put it off as a possibility.

"It’s already late, better get some rest first.

"Here, take these and give everyone else a treat for the job well done tomorrow." He took out some of the water, cabbage, beef and chicken from his storage space and handed them to the others.

The eyes of Eddy and the others widened at what they saw.

"Thank you." All of them thanked him and took the food and water.

Then, they left the room leaving Alex and his friends behind.

"You have more of those?" Terry was thinking about having some steak and asked.

Alex shrugged his shoulders and said, "There’s still some more of it."

"So, do we still go to the supermarket?" Riley asked and Alex nodded his head.

"Our priority is to find some portable generators for ourselves and also find some diesel to top up the generators at the school of Bio-science.

"Other than that, we have to scavenge for any items we can find." Alex said and glanced at his ripped shirt that was also stained with dark marks from the blood that had dried off.

They also had needs for tools and other necessities to sustain their lives comfortably.

And on top of these, Alex wanted to see how things were outside of the college campus.

The mutated beasts or zombies might have been different than what they encountered here, so it was better for him to be prepared before the eventual move to somewhere that was safer.

"As you wish." Riley shrugged and said.

He was also eager to check on things that were happening outside the college compounds.

It didn’t take long for them to agree on the decision to still make the trip to the supermarket and rest for the night.

Next day.

After they woke up, Alex and his friends had a good breakfast with the beef and chicken he had gotten from the system.

Then, after they were done with it, they went down to the ground floor to enhance the defense of the dorm building.

"Terry, create some platforms at the top of the wall." Alex instructed and Terry did so with his ability.

The metallic wall extended, and stairs leading up to the platforms were created.

Alex took out some of the automatic grenade launchers and machine guns from his storage space and he handed them over to Eddy and Lin.

Both of them were astonished that he had such weapons at his disposal.

By now, they weren’t too curious about how he got these.

All they could think of was that, luckily Alex was on their side.

They shuddered to think if it was otherwise.

"Mount these onto the platform.

"Their firepower should be better than what we have now." Alex said and Eddy and Lin started on it immediately.

As for the automatic rifles, he handed some of them out to those on guard detail.

After they were done, Alex and his friends headed out of the metallic walls through the entrance of it.

Riley led the way and they headed towards the car park that was nearby.

Along the way, the buildings in the surroundings were eerily quiet.

Alex wasn’t sure if there were any survivors left after the rampage of the zombiefied students, but it was very unlikely now to him.

He couldn’t sense any life from within the buildings.

Terry, Brian and Riley also noticed the difference and they kept quiet all along the way.

After a rather somber few minutes, the four of them finally got to the car park.

The car park wasn’t very full with only some still parked in their parking lots.

Most of the cars would have been moved away when their owners tried to escape from the mutated beasts when the apocalypse just happened.

Riley walked over to one of the cars and he tried to open the door but it was locked.

He could have smashed the window but he didn’t want to trigger the alarm.

While he tried to think of something, he glanced around and saw a man’s body next to him, lying on the ground with a key fob in his hand.

"Hope this is my lucky day." Riley said to himself and he picked up the key fob.

He pressed the button of the key fob and the car next to him gave out a beep.

"What are you waiting for? Come in for the ride." Riley turned back towards Alex and the others and waved at them.
