"Foresight logs?"

"That’s right." When Bai Meiyue sent Xiao Wu to Wang Fugui, she had especially requested these logs. With a hand on her hips, she added, "Raw, unfiltered multi-realm prophecy. They are recorded directly from an awakened seer. This report details the exact star system coordinates where your fighters are at the moment and how they would be attacked...in seventy-two hours."

Kael’s independent eyes stopped twitching. Now he was looking at the pages with all four of his eyes. He locked his eyes on the pages with great concentration, and his high optic fibre robes shifted from gold to sharp, electric blue.

"This data... it possesses a temporal signature of certainty," Kael noticed. His voice now lost the bored resonance. "It seems like our army has been going to be attacked for a while now. If your prophecy is true, then there is a good chance that there will be forty thousand soldiers whose lives can be saved."

"I know." Bai Meiyue said with a slight smile, "Which brings us back to the price that you are going to offer. After all, this book has more than just one prophecy."

"Name your exchange," Kael said instantly, closing the folder and clutching it against his chest. It was clear that he was determined to keep the book with him. "I can transfer a dozen plasma blade chassis or three medical auto doc units. You tell me the price."

"I don’t need blades, and your auto docs require power grids that are too modern for my safe base. I cannot deal with it." Bai Meiyue countered, taking a step closer to the rift. "Here is the invoice; I want a device that can help the seer live a good life. You know how they have a hard time while trying to live a common life. Give me something that I can use to win him over. I believe that the lives of your soldiers are worth it."

Kael’s upper eyes narrowed. "You are asking for quite a developed technology. That’s an inflated valuation."

"It is a bargain; think about it, Kael," Bai Meiyue replied with a shrug. Her voice dropped into a razor-sharp edge. "That army of yours is worth millions. Without my log, you will be wrecked. You give me the device, and in exchange you win the lives of many of your soldiers as well as your throne. I don’t believe that if you rescue so many of your soldiers, your father will still turn a blind eye to your sacrifices."

Silence stretched across the room. The ozone in the room started to grow heavier as Kael stayed quiet and calculated the margins and the risks; his metallic fingers tapped against the ledger.

Finally, he let out a dry, mechanical sigh.

"You are a terrifying negotiator, Miss Bai."

Kael raised his hand, gesturing to his side, and a second later, one hovering anti-gravity platform glided into the room. With a flick of his wrist, he pushed the platform towards her. The concrete floor rose and then came down with a satisfying thud.

"This is a chronos filter visor, custom-traded from our orbital cyber artificer." He pointed to the sleek visor made of obsidian alloy and threaded with liquid-silver microcircuits. "This visor uses active temporal dampening. It compresses multi-dimensional radiation down to a narrow, single-stream pinhole. As long as your seer uses it, he will no longer live like a blind man."

He turned to look at the visor and then added, "Keep that seer, Miss Bai. If his eyes can see through the dimensions...then I am sure you will be able to trade more than just this small visor."

As soon as he finished speaking, there was a final crackle of static; the tear snapped shut, leaving Bai Meiyue alone in her own room.

Bai Meiyue looked at the visor that she had bartered with Kael and sighed. She had to admit that this was a good thing. As long as she could help Wang Fugui, she was sure that the man would be willing to join her even if he was the leader of the survivors.

"Wahh!!"

As soon as she finished the barter, she heard the sound of her son crying. It wasn’t a soft, gentle whimper, but it was a furious demand screech that reverberated off the stone walls. ℯ𝐥.

Bai Meiyue’s sharp posture immediately softened. The ruthless leader of the safe base who had just bullied an interdimensional archivist into giving up a military-grade visor. She unlatched the heavy brass locks of her coat, letting it fall on the floor.

"Alright, my dear, calm down." Bai Meiyue murmured, stepping over the toys that were scattered all over the room.

Bai Cai instantly tucked his chin into the crook of her neck as soon as she picked him up. His frantic crying dialled down to wet, rhythmic hiccups as soon as he caught her scent. Bai Meiyue rocked her son gently on her feet, cradling his small head with one hand while the other hand patted him down.

"You actually peed when I was not here," she whispered, softly pressing her lips to his soft, dark hair. "I just went out for a while, and you actually ended up in trouble like this. What will happen to you without me?"

Bai Cai let out a squeaky sigh, his tiny fingers latching onto the silver collar pin of her shirt.

Bai Meiyue looked down at him, her eyes softening as she gently pried his tiny fist open. Outside her walls, Wang Fugui was adjusting his vision, waiting for her to come and see him. He looked at the windows that were still closed, but he could see Bai Meiyue holding her son and patting him softly as she cooed a lullaby to him.

Seeing this sight, even if he was in a hurry to get the one thing that could help him, he was able to keep his patience. He was going to wait until Bai Meiyue was free to visit him.
