Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1016
Baili Xia also came to her senses, realizing she had asked a question he couldn’t answer.
Eager to lighten the mood, she forced a smile and said to him, “Just kidding, hurry up and eat.”
“I won’t let him hurt you.” As she looked down in that moment, Mu Xiaoyao suddenly dropped this remark.
Baili Xia’s heart skipped a beat.
When she lifted her eyes to look at him, he had already bowed his head and started eating earnestly, as if the words he had just spoken didn’t come from him at all.
But he had said them—he wouldn’t let Uncle hurt her.
Baili Xia had heard him clearly.
But why?
Why was he being so nice to her?
“Eat up, the food is getting cold,” Mu Xiaoyao casually reminded her.
Baili Xia withdrew her gaze, her heart in turmoil as she picked up the food and slowly began to eat.
The meal passed in silence.
After dinner, Baili Xia wiped her mouth with a napkin, intending to hand Mu Xiaoyao a clean one.
Unexpectedly, he snatched the one in her hand and used the other side to wipe his mouth.
“I’ve used it,” Baili Xia exclaimed, startled, trying to snatch it back.
But Mu Xiaoyao had already finished wiping his mouth and thrown the napkin away.
“It’s eco-friendly, no waste,” he stated indifferently, standing up and casting his eyes down at her.
Baili Xia could do nothing but stand up as well and follow him out of the dining hall.
All the way, she fretted about how to tell him she was staying at the school.
To her surprise, as soon as they stepped out of the restaurant, Mu Xiaoyao looked at her and said, “Come back to the apartment with me.
I’ll grab my laptop, and we’ll go home together.”
“Home?” Which home was he referring to?
The Mu family’s?
“No, I’m not going back.” The thought of Uncle’s attitude the day before made Baili Xia panic instantly.
She couldn’t go back to Mu Mansion; if she did, Uncle would find a way to kill the child in her belly.
He would surely harm her and her child; he definitely would.
Yesterday, if she hadn’t left quickly, it’s possible Uncle might have already taken action.
The murderous intent in his eyes was so intense even a blind man could see it—how could she misunderstand?
Uncle wanted to kill, and no matter whom he intended to kill, she was also a target.
“I’m not going back, Brother.
I plan to live at the school.
I don’t want to go back to the Mu family.”
“How will you explain it to Grandfather?
If you don’t go back, he will come to look for you.”
“I…” She met his gaze, unable to find words to respond.
Grandfather would come for her; how could he not eventually come looking for her?
But how could she go back?
Going back would be a dead end!
“Actually, Uncle isn’t as scary as you think.
He…”
“No more,” Baili Xia cut him off, stepping back and distancing herself from him.
Now she had once again linked him with Uncle, seeing them as part of the opposing side she was against.
Mu Xiaoyao stood with his hands in his pockets, watching her, unsure of what to say.
He wasn’t good at comforting women, but he meant what he said—he would do it.
He wouldn’t let Uncle hurt her.
Why couldn’t she trust him?
Besides, Uncle wouldn’t really hurt her.
If he wanted to harm her, he would have done it yesterday.
Did she really think Dongfang Jin alone could take her away from the Mu family?
Uncle had let Baili Xia go with Dongfang Jin only because he knew he was losing control.
He feared that in his uncontrolled state, he might do something he would deeply regret.
The actions of a person in anger are often uncontrollable, even by themselves.
With her leaving with Dongfang Jin first, at least she was safe.
