Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1280
The front yard seemed lively, though it was unclear who the important guest at the main residence might be.
Although Baili Xia had never been a meddlesome person, she suddenly found herself paying unusual attention to matters of the Bei Family.
Before her brain could react, her legs, apparently acting on their own, carried her over.
Not far away, a little maid hurried over, emerging abruptly from a cluster of flowers and rushing straight in Baili Xia’s direction.
Tao hadn’t noticed anyone nearby, and the two of them froze in surprise, nearly colliding.
“Tao?” Baili Xia stopped in her tracks and quickly stepped aside.
Tao hastily pulled herself to a stop, narrowly avoiding the collision.
“Miss Xiaxia, why are you here?” Tao asked.
“I noticed some commotion over here and got curious, so I came to take a look,” Baili Xia replied.
Only then did Tao remember why she had been rushing over in the first place.
She still wanted to hurry, but the group had already reached the entrance to the main hall.
Tao hesitated; rushing over now would definitely be too late.
If those people saw her barreling in recklessly, they might take their anger out on Madam.
Tao felt utterly indecisive, unsure of what to do.
There were too many people over there, and Baili Xia couldn’t make out who had arrived.
But seeing the expression on Tao’s face, Baili Xia couldn’t help but furrow her brows: “Tao, what’s wrong?
Who are they?”
“It’s… it’s Miss Yun who has returned,” Tao replied cautiously.
While she had once sided with Tang Jixin to trouble Baili Xia, she personally bore no ill will toward her.
Especially since Baili Xia was Mr.
Nangong’s cousin, and the eldest young master held Mr.
Nangong in such high regard—she didn’t want to offend Baili Xia.
Miss Yun… Baili Xia searched her mind and immediately frowned deeper: “Nangong Yun?”
Tao hesitated for a moment before finally nodding.
“So what? She’s returned, hasn’t she? Why are you acting like you’re afraid she’s going to eat you alive?”
Even Baili Xia could clearly see the fear in Tao’s eyes.
Being called out, Tao’s expression grew worse: “Madam… Madam is in the hall, and I don’t know… if I should go over.”
Currently, everyone was still unpacking Miss Yun’s luggage.
A crowd was blocking the doorway; even if she went over, they wouldn’t let her in.
At the very least, she had to wait until all those people had entered before her turn would come.
“Is this Miss Yun particularly fierce? You seem really scared of her.” Baili Xia glanced at the crowd in the distance.
She knew full well how rotten Nangong Yun could be, but she hadn’t expected that even at the Bei Family, Nangong Yun would behave so brazenly.
That must mean Nangong Yun held a fairly high status within the Bei Family.
“No, Miss Yun is very kind. Miss Xiaxia, you’d better watch your words,” Tao said.
Though her face remained tense, hearing Baili Xia’s remark instantly added a flicker of guardedness in Tao’s eyes.
Baili Xia merely chuckled and said nothing more.
In a grand estate like this, one naturally learned to tread carefully when speaking, especially servants like Tao.
A single careless word could bring disaster down upon them.
Baili Xia started to feel bored and wanted to leave, yet Tao’s visible anxiety rooted her in place.
If Tao were genuinely afraid, she wouldn’t head over and risk running into trouble.
Then what was this peculiar behavior?
Fearful, but still intending to approach?
What exactly was her goal?
Tao paid no mind to Baili Xia, her ears perked high, intently listening for any movement from the hall.
Just as Baili Xia was about to withdraw her thoughts and leave, a piercing scream from a woman suddenly erupted from the hall.
