Just one sentence, and he looked as though he’d seen a ghost.

Was this guilt, or something else?

Baili Xia secretly clenched her fist, telling herself not to soften.

If he could be ruthless, she could be just like him.

Turning around, she gazed at Mu Xiaojiu’s shadowy figure in the darkness.

She smirked dismissively.

“You keep insisting I be with Brother, yet you can’t help but come looking for me yourself. What, do you want me to serve both uncle and nephew at the same time?”

Mu Xiaojiu said nothing.

He simply gave her a deep look before abruptly turning and walking toward the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Baili Xia bit her lip, thinking he was leaving, but unexpectedly, he stopped when he reached the window.

Looking at his watch for a moment, he suddenly opened the floor-to-ceiling window and leaned against the frame.

With a crisp snap, he lit a cigarette he’d somehow taken out and began smoking leisurely.

Baili Xia glared fiercely at his back and moved to turn on the light.

Mu Xiaojiu’s gravelly voice rang out: “Turning on the light will let people see a man is in your room.”

“A man in my room—what’s so strange about that? My room often has men in it.”

Though she said this, she still withdrew the hand she’d extended.

Hesitating for a moment, she walked over to the small sofa, fumbling for the silver needle she’d shot earlier, and tucked it back into her bracelet.

The bracelet had limited capacity, holding only a few silver needles, so every time she used one, she’d have to replace it.

This was why she avoided using them unless necessary.

Looking up, the man leaning beside the floor-to-ceiling window continued smoking idly.

Baili Xia felt an intense frustration well up.

Coming and going as he pleased—did he ever consider that she might not want to see him?

“When are you leaving?”

“Why? Trying to kick me out?” Mu Xiaojiu raised an eyebrow, still gazing outside, not at her.

“Of course. Brother is coming to see me later. How can he come over if you don’t leave?”

Baili Xia grabbed a throw pillow and hugged it to her chest.

Mu Xiaojiu ignored her provocative words and spoke indifferently: “Dressed like that—are you planning on doing something shady tonight?”

She really wanted to retort, “What’s it to you?” but instead, she chose another response: “Brother tells you everything. Do you think he won’t tell you what we’re doing tonight?”

That no-good Brother—why did he have to be so obedient?

So annoying!

Mu Xiaojiu paused slightly at her words before lifting his hand and taking a deep drag on his cigarette.

“You’ve misunderstood him.

Generally, unless I give specific instructions, he doesn’t casually tell me about your affairs.”

“He…” Baili Xia froze, momentarily unable to believe it.

Brother… didn’t report everything to him?

In her mind, Brother was nothing but Uncle’s puppet.

“Xiaoyao, that brat—he doesn’t meddle as much as you think and doesn’t like talking too much either,” Mu Xiaojiu added lightly.

Baili Xia pursed her lips.

Oddly, upon realizing she’d misjudged Brother, she felt an immense sense of relief.

She hated the idea of any part of her life being within Uncle’s surveillance; it made her feel like she was being watched.

“Brother has his own life. You shouldn’t keep using him.”

On this point, she truly felt sorry for Mu Xiaoyao.

The poor fool—always letting Uncle manipulate him, so willingly at that!

Unexpectedly, her simple remark caused the man by the window to erupt in fury.

Like the wind, his figure appeared before her in an instant.

His long fingers tightened, and her chin was once again forced upward.
