“You feel sorry for him?” Mu Xiaojiu’s ink-black eyes narrowed.

In those eyes, a dangerous glint flashed by.

Those pitch-black star-like eyes exuded a chilling depth that made the startled Baili Xia freeze in terror the moment she couldn’t react.

However, the words from her heart slipped out without thought.

“Brother… He’s so good to me, unconditionally good. Truly… Is it wrong for me to feel sorry for him?”

His gaze bore cold hostility, fixed intensely on her eyes.

Baili Xia was genuinely panicked.

The icy aura in his eyes was so frigid it felt like her entire bloodstream had frozen solid in an instant.

But slowly, she recalled their previous conversation; he had asked her…

whether she felt sorry for Brother?

Just moments ago, her mind had been a chaotic mess, scared senseless by his freezing aura, forgetting entirely what she’d been thinking.

Now, with the memory surfacing again, her eyes darkened with determination.

“Don’t push it too far!

You’re the one who wanted me and Brother to get along.

I…

I find Brother better than you in many ways.”

“How good is he?” Those star-like eyes narrowed further, and even the fingers pinching her chin tightened with force.

She actually… actually said Xiaoyao is better than him!

Truthfully, he didn’t know why he was so angry.

This was what he wanted—he wanted them to get along.

However, the moment he realized she could feel compassion for other men, pity for them, an uncontrollable anger surged in him.

He had never imagined she would hold room in her heart for others.

Because the only woman occupying his heart was her—and no one else.

He thought she would feel the same as he did!

“You’re hurting me!” Baili Xia’s nose tingled with pain as she tilted her head up to meet his gaze.

“You’re really strange—so moody, so unreasonable.

Who would even want to be with you?”

“You told me to stay with Brother, and I’ve obediently complied.

What more are you dissatisfied with?

Isn’t this what you wanted to see?”

“Now, what?

Are you changing your mind again?

Does everyone and everything have to go according to your whims and wants?”

“Have you ever considered our feelings?

You make Brother stay by my side all day long, but have you ever wondered whether he actually wants that?”

“And me?

Whether I like it or not—do you even care?”

She poured all of this out in one breath, almost shouting by the end.

Mu Xiaojiu remained cold-faced, quietly staring at her.

Even in the dim light, it was apparent that her chin showed faint red marks from his grip.

After a long pause, he finally loosened his hand and turned around, facing away from her.

The girl behind him let out a breath of relief but still refused to back down, glaring at his retreating figure fearlessly.

“I’ve grown to enjoy spending time with Brother now.

So please, stop showing up out of nowhere and breaking our peace for no reason.”

“You have no say in this!” His chest rose and fell violently.

He was fully aware that this little girl was deliberately provoking him—and she succeeded.

At this moment, he truly was furious.

But knowing her intentional behavior didn’t help; merely imagining her possibly liking another man stirred discomfort deep within his heart.

He could trust Xiaoyao, knowing he wouldn’t betray him.

But with others?

What if she started loving someone else…

The thought, one he hadn’t entertained in a long time, now struck him again, clawing at his chest like an unforgiving hand, keeping him from truly relaxing.

This girl was extraordinary—just a few words, and she nearly drove him to madness.
