Mu Xiaoyao lowered his head and glanced at Baili Xia—how could he not know what this girl was scheming?

She was thinking that if she could use the blind spots of the monitors to get in, then even if he wasn’t around, she could still come here to “explore” on her own.

But there’s no way he would let her risk her life by coming here alone.

“There might be monitors you can’t see.

It’s too risky.”

“Don’t you have a device to detect monitors?” Baili Xia tilted her head to look at him, her face full of innocent curiosity.

“If you give me the device, I could accurately locate every single monitor. Isn’t that simple enough?”

Mu Xiaoyao shot her a glare.

This little rascal—so she really was eyeing his device.

“No.” He replied flatly.

“Why not?” The smile froze on her face, and Baili Xia chased after him: “Brother, why won’t you give it to me?”

“I’m not in the mood.” Since when does he need a reason?

No is no.

“Brother…”

“Shut up.

Do you want to alert the guards in this courtyard?”

“Are there guards in this courtyard?” But why couldn’t she sense their presence?

“They could show up anytime.” Mu Xiaoyao didn’t want to frighten her, but this girl—if you don’t scare her a bit, her courage will only grow bigger.

If he doesn’t rein her in, she’ll be climbing to the heavens!

Upon hearing this, Baili Xia immediately bit her lip and didn’t dare make another sound.

Even though she still couldn’t sense the presence of any guards nearby, she wasn’t as skilled as her brother.

Maybe her brother could hear movements she couldn’t, so it was always better to listen to him.

The girl quieted down, and Mu Xiaoyao finally looked satisfied as he led her further into the courtyard.

This courtyard must’ve been vacant for many years now.

The surrounding flowers and plants had grown wild, flourishing with extraordinary vigor.

Yet, despite the vegetation’s chaos, it wasn’t dirty at all, as if someone had been coming regularly to clean.

Moreover, though the plants were dense, every tree and flower was spotless.

Even the weeds were nearly nonexistent—the grass that grew here was as beautiful as the flowers, all of them well-known species.

At first glance, the entire courtyard seemed disordered, but a closer examination revealed that everything had actually been meticulously arranged.

A chaotic elegance.

A disorder that was clean, prestigious, dignified.

“The Old Madam must’ve really loved her youngest daughter,” Baili Xia said under her breath.

Even though sensing this brought a hint of joy to her heart, thinking about how Bei Qingyou had been dead for so many years—and how she would never get the chance to meet her in this lifetime—the heaviness in her heart returned.

Mu Xiaoyao said nothing, only gave a silent nod.

Even he could see that, although the owner of this courtyard had passed away so many years ago, the Old Madam’s love for her hadn’t wavered one bit.

Or perhaps it wasn’t the Old Madam, but the Old Master.

Regardless, this courtyard was quietly narrating an undeniable truth to them.

If Bei Qingyou were still alive today, it was very likely that she would be the one in charge of the Bei Family, second only to the Old Madam and Old Master.

Knowing this girl was feeling sad again, Mu Xiaoyao decided not to waste time.

He reached out and grabbed her hand.

“Brother…”

“Let’s go inside and have a look.” After listening closely for a moment, he didn’t spot any signs of guards nearby, so Mu Xiaoyao immediately pulled her toward the hall.

The hall doors were locked.

After some effort, Mu Xiaoyao managed to find an open window.

He turned back to look at Baili Xia and suddenly placed both hands on her waist, lifting her up forcefully.

Baili Xia took a sharp breath and, with Mu Xiaoyao’s strength, quickly flipped herself over.
