Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1602
Baili Xia ate her meal while listening to the conversation between Feng Gang and the maid, her heart full of worry.
She hadn’t noticed before that the old master was eating less lately.
With just the two of them having a meal today, she realized it.
The thought of the old master’s health deteriorating made her even more concerned.
After Baili Xia finished breakfast, she called the maid over.
“Miss Xiaxia, is there something you need from me?” the maid asked respectfully.
“I’ll make the old master’s lunch today. He likes Chef Wang’s cooking, and I can create similar flavors.”
The maid was taken aback.
It was the first time the mistress would be cooking in the house.
In her understanding, it seemed no master could make food that tasted good.
Not to mention making it taste as good as Chef Wang’s.
Furthermore, if Housekeeper Feng were to find out, he might punish the kitchen staff, and she didn’t have the courage for that.
Thinking it over, she was about to refuse.
“Absolutely not, Miss Xiaxia, we…”
The maid hadn’t finished speaking when Baili Xia interrupted her.
“It’s not good for the old master’s health to continue like this.
Do you want him to stay this way?”
“But…” the maid hesitated.
She didn’t want to see the old master like this every day, but with Chef Wang absent, there was no solution.
After some thought, she ultimately chose to compromise.
“Alright.” She agreed uneasily, “Just if Housekeeper Feng asks, then…”
Baili Xia smiled gently, “Don’t worry, I’ll handle any problems.”
She just didn’t want to see the old master’s health continue to decline.
After all, health is the most important.
Furthermore, seeing the old master unwell made her feel just as bad.
Though the maid was still uneasy, she had no choice but to go along with Baili Xia.
Baili Xia then told her which dishes to prepare for lunch and asked her to gather the ingredients.
The whole morning, Baili Xia stayed inside.
It wasn’t until near noon that the maid came to inform her the ingredients were ready, and she went down to the kitchen.
The maid told her that no one else would be home for lunch, only she and the old master.
Baili Xia didn’t prepare too many dishes, just made a few of the old master’s favorites according to Chef Wang’s usual flavors.
She often ate Chef Wang’s cooking, so she remembered the flavors well.
While cooking, she kept taste-testing.
After finishing a few dishes, she felt they tasted at least seventy to eighty percent similar, which satisfied her.
At lunchtime, Baili Xia personally brought out the plates of food.
When the old master saw Baili Xia bringing out the dishes, his eyes subtly flickered.
After Baili Xia sat beside him, she watched him intently.
Though the old master noticed Baili Xia’s peculiar behavior, he didn’t think much of it.
As he picked up the food and placed it in his mouth, gently chewing,
he quickly noticed the flavor of the food, holding a familiar feeling.
His heart subtly shook, a trace of emotion slipped through his eyes, and his expression turned serious.
Baili Xia felt a bit nervous; was the old master’s demeanor because the food wasn’t to his taste?
But she had worked hard to replicate the chef’s flavors, fine-tuning them repeatedly.
She believed the taste should be similar to the chef’s previous cooking.
Seeing the old master about to set down his chopsticks, she parted her lips slightly, only for him to tighten his grip on them again.
He picked up a piece from another dish and placed it in his mouth.
Slowly chewing, his brow furrowed even more.
