Chapter 340: The Devil And Qin An

Qin An once again turned around but his body froze at the sight. It was indeed He Li, yet he could feel something different.

He stiffened when he met the man’s gaze. The once obsidian orbs somehow turned into crimson red yet what bothered him the most was on how the man was looking at him.

It was something that he could not understand yet it also feels familiar.

"Marshal, are you okay?!" Ji Wen called in relief and wanted to run towards the man but he quickly stopped him.

"Don’t come near him." There was still a distance away from each other but he could see it clearly.

It’s not him. It’s no longer the Marshal.

It’s a devil.

"Who are you?" He asked.

He had long noticed this entity but he had been holding back because he didn’t have enough strength but now that the latter fully revealed himself and even dared to possess the Marshal’s body, he had to do something.

He Li stops his tracks a distance away. The chaos around them was also stopped because the evil spirits sensed the dangerous aura around the man and instinctively went away in fear.

"Ah Si..."

He was stunned. Ah Si?

Is that a name or something? Qin An could not understand but he saw the man was looking at him directly which confused him.

Ah Si? Is he calling him? He is not familiar with that name.

"Ah Si." The man called again.

He frowned. "My name is not Ah Si. Who are you? Release the Marshal’s body." He coldly commanded.

"Ah Si, why did you choose them again?" The man suddenly starts questioning him. "You were finally free! They can no longer use you again but why did you choose this path again?!"

His brows furrowed even more and he raised his sword to point the tip on him. "I don’t know what you’re saying. If you have a problem with someone, come out. Don’t involve him—"

"Qin An... why do you always choose them?"

"...."

His body went frozen.

It was his name. The man was still staring directly at him. His gaze contains various emotions and he could see the pain in his eyes. He was startled but then again he couldn’t understand.

Hearing his name, he knew that the devil was speaking to him. But who is Ah Si? Why is he calling him that name?

Why can’t he remember? What did he forget?

He wanted to ask again but Zhi Anming was anxiously calling him behind. "Senior, my strength is weak to maintain the gate open. You have to enter now!"

He nodded. It doesn’t matter. There are things that are important than something he couldn’t remember—

"You are not leaving!"

Unfortunately, the devil suddenly became agitated. The dark energy around him deepened and his face turned hostile. "Ah Si, you’re not leaving!"

"No." He directly answered him. He once again met the man’s eyes and he was determined. "I will."

The devil no longer responded. It was as if the man’s body went still like a rock and a strange silence engulfed the surroundings.

Qin An sighed and just as he took a single step backwards, the wind whistled and turned sharp. The dead branches on the trees clattered and even if there were no longer evil spirits around, with how the wind suddenly grew stronger, it feels like it replaced the echoes of their screams earlier.

This sound was more silent yet it reflected something more hostile and dangerous.

And then just all of the sudden, the devil inside the Marshal’s body starts laughing.

"...." Everyone froze. They watched the Marshal’s face that was usually just cold and emotionless and laughed out loud yet no one thinks it’s funny.

His laughter didn’t sound like any joy but rather like someone who heard ironic and unbelievable. In this withered and dead forest, it was only his voice that sounded.

He glanced at everyone and saw their faces turned pale while looking at the man in deep worry and anxiety. His eyes glint sharply. He has to find a way to save He Li.

Soon the devil’s laugh gradually stops and a bad premonition arises in his heart.

"Ah Si," the devil stopped and called that name again. "I know you’re just choosing them because of your responsibility as a grim reaper. You are no longer one now! You’re still a human and you can not choose them again!"

Again? Why does he keep on saying that he knew him? And why were his words said like this? As if he already faced this kind of situation where he has to choose?

Why couldn’t he remember at all?!

There was a look of paranoia flashed on the man’s face yet another emotion was written silently on his eyes.

Qin An knew that those crimson eyes were from a devil. Someone that is always cruel and heartless no one yet what he saw was something different from the anger that he’s showing.

Pain and begging.

The devil... was pleading.

How is that even possible, right? And to him? Qin An was now filled with an endless question and confusion but he didn’t know what to do. He didn’t even know what to ask.

Did they know each other?

"Ah Si, I’ve been waiting for you." The devil’s words echoed, his words sounded bitter. "I keep on waiting for you. It’s been so long but I did it because I want to see that maybe in your next life, you will choose another path."

His features hardened into an icy mask of fury. "Since you’re still choosing this mistake again... then I’ll destroy this choice."

And before everyone could react, He Li was once again engulfed by the dark energy and disappeared on the spot.

"!!!"

"Marshal!" Ji Wen shouted but it was too late.

"Mr. Qin—"

"I will come back." He cut him off and looked at everyone before walking towards the gate. He turned to Zhi Anming. "Guide everyone to go back. Take the gingko tree and place it near the peach blossom tree. Call Nan Xing, she will know what to do to help."

He can no longer help them for now so they must leave quickly and be ready for any possibilities of what the devil will do. "Leave here."

Zhi Anming’s face was pale but he stubbornly nodded. "Senior, you can go back. Ask for His Majesty’s help."

"I will."

As he entered the gate of the underworld, the words spoken by the devil earlier resurface in his mind.

This time, it was not only his identity that he wanted to regain but the memories that he seemed to have forgotten.
