Chapter 343 - 341: His Service
Chapter 341: His Service
The moment Qin An entered the gate of the underworld, he was transported immediately inside the familiar hall. It was as if it knew his purpose and just delivered him here.
"You’re back."
And even before he could speak, the man sitting on the throne already speaks first. The tone of his voice didn’t sound surprising. It was as if he was already expecting he’ll come back.
He was confused but he has matters to think more so. "Your Majesty," In the next second, he kneeled in front of him. It was an act that he knew he would never do in the past but after everything, he was more willing to do this.
He bowed his head and solemnly asked the Judge. "Grant me my identity back again."
The Judge didn’t answer immediately and instead questioned him. "No. 444, do you know why I sent you in that world?"
He didn’t respond.
"When you asked me to be a human, I honestly wanted you to have an ordinary life. However, that’s not how fate wants you to be." The Judge pauses. "Your fate with him hasn’t ended yet.’
Now that caught his attention. He understood the Judge’s words and that even surprised him even more. So are the devil’s words true? They’ve met and it seemed they had formed a connection. Why did he call him Ah Si? Was that his name?
Then why can’t he remember a thing?
Why is that devil full of hatred for humans? Why did he say those words? Why did he ask not to choose his responsibility and humans? What exactly happened to him?
He raised his head and asked his doubts. "Your Majesty, you knew that I met a devil. Who is he? I can’t remember him."
Furthermore, there was something in his words that made his heart skip a beat.
His fate hasn’t ended with the devil and thus he was sent into that world? Would that also mean that the devil was really from that world? But who is he? Why did he—
He stiffened. A thought flashed on his mind that made his eyes widen. There was a feeling of disbelief on him but according to the Judge’s attitude and his words, he really meant something else. What’s more, those vague unfamiliar yet a strange familiarity that he always had whenever he was with He Li, does that also mean something?
The devil was able to reside in the Marshal’s body for a long time and given how easily he occupied him, it means that the compatibility between them is stronger than he expected. Possession is not just about casually integrating one soul on another but souls must find the perfect vessel for them.
Those who are weak in mind are often the victims because they can be easily bewitched or they can’t just fight with anyone. He Li was not that kind of person at all. That man has the same stubbornness as him in his bones and he will never let anyone occupy himself.
Yet he had.
It’s either something happened that he didn’t know or their compatibility is just too strong to resist.
Does the devil and the Marshal have a connection with each other? If the Judge meant that he was sent to that world because he still has a fate with the devil, then does that also mean he has a connection with He Li?
"Qin An," The Judge’s call made him recall something.
"Your Majesty, why did you name me Qin An? If that devil knew me and called me another name, then why use that name?"
Is he Ah Si? Or is he Qin An?
The Judge sighs and stands up from his throne. He strode towards him and stopped in front of him.
"No. 444, do you know that if you become a full grim reaper, you will experience the life that you had again?" He raised his hand and spread his palm. A small magic circle appeared on it and a golden core floated.
"Giving it back to you means you will live for a long long time again, No. 444. It’s a path with an endless time of loneliness. The people you’ve met in that world will meet their death one by one until there is no left."
"...." He was silent. His eyes remained glued to the golden core as the memories from the short time that he had as a human in that world resurface one by one.
When he first landed in that world and felt the warmth of his body for the first time. The blood on his veins, the natural heat on his body and the beating of his heart. It was the first experience where he also felt the sunlight on his skin and felt the cool breeze of the air that brushed his skin.
When he met Li Bai and got his first encouragement to audition even though they didn’t really know each other. The only person that stayed beside him and even though he failed him, he didn’t stop giving support. The first gratefulness he felt which was why he did everything to stay in the competition.
His first performance on stage. The first time he was overwhelmed by nervousness and doubted himself. It was the moment when he tried being someone that he never expected in his life— to debut as an idol. The times when they had group performances and he learned many things through those songs. The unfamiliar emotions that he must face and the curiosity grew on every stage.
The fondness that grew inside him and the eagerness that stayed to achieve one thing, to debut. He never expected to love the stage but it was the feeling of dreaming something that freed him.
He remembered the participants— his friends. He Yan, Shen Lou, Han Suwen and others. He vividly recalls the memories they bicker and the endless laughter that surrounds him. It was the companions that he never had as a grim reaper and made him realize that it’s not wrong to have someone on his side to share precious memories.
The ghosts whom he met. That lovely black cat, Bai Yue, that little girl Pei Rouyao and Pei Roujin who didn’t hesitate to give his life to accompany her. They are the souls who gave him a lesson that allowed him the importance of life. Their reluctance and the smiles on their faces as they bid goodbye.
Every person he met that made him understand the beauty of life. They helped him understand the emotions inside his heart and become a human. They were the reason why he chose this path again because he learned how to protect and wanted their happiness too.
A certain man’s face also appeared on his mind.
"Your Majesty, did I forget something?" He asked after a moment. He raised his eyes and met him. "Did I forget someone?"
The Judge didn’t speak. There was a seconds of silence before he heard a soft sigh and the corner of the man’s lips slowly curled up. He didn’t answer but the golden core on his palm flew towards him.
"Qin An," The Judge’s tone was no longer the usual cold and majestic but was inlaid by something warmer and a brief of tenderness.
"Thank you for your service, No. 444."
