Chapter 200: 200: NOT SO GOOD AT BEING HOT.
"....."
An awkward silence lingered between the two of them, and even some of the people around them had turned to stare.
Nyx smiled awkwardly. "That..."
June shook his head with a smile. "You should eat something. You don’t have to act all tough."
Nyx blinked, feeling a little embarrassed. Immediately, he searched through his mind for a backup plan among the first-date advice he’d gathered online the night before.
One of the tips he’d learned was to always let his partner place the order, giving them the upper hand. Now, he was about to execute another piece of advice he’d picked up to save himself from this embarrassing situation.
"Let me feed you!" Nyx suddenly declared, picking up a fork.
"Huh?" June stared at him.
Nyx smiled. "I’ll feed you. I want to..."
June blinked. "I think you should eat first, though..."
Nyx shook his head. "No. Feeding you is more important, so let me do it." He smiled as he picked up his fork and knife and proceeded to cut the meat.
June sat there watching him as Nyx struggled to cut the meat in an increasingly awkward silence.
For some reason, he just couldn’t do it. The meat was particularly tough, and Nyx found himself practically fighting with it as he tried to cut it into smaller portions.
June watched him awkwardly force his fork into the meat, growing increasingly worried that he might end up making a mess.
"Are you okay...?" June asked.
"I can do it! I... I almost have it..." Nyx insisted, stubbornly attacking the meat with his knife.
Then, with one final, forceful cut, he managed to slice off a piece.
Unfortunately, the piece of meat instantly flew into the air.
"....."
Both June and Nyx sat there speechless, watching the meat soar dramatically across the restaurant. Their eyes followed its trajectory until it finally landed on another table, dropping straight into a couple’s bowl of porridge soup.
"...."
Awkwardly, June and Nyx looked away from the couple, who were now staring at their food and looking around in confusion, seemingly trying to figure out where the hell the meat had come from. Unable to find an explanation, they eventually called over a waiter to report the strange incident.
Meanwhile, June and Nyx couldn’t help smiling at the mess they’d just created.
June turned to Nyx. "What are you doing...?"
Nyx smiled sheepishly. "I really wanted to cut it for you and..."
June shook his head before taking the plate from him. He carefully cut the meat into smaller pieces right before Nyx’s eyes. "You cut this type of meat differently..." He then handed the plate back to him. "Now eat. Your stomach isn’t happy with you."
Nyx stared at the neatly cut meat before him, biting his lower lip as embarrassment washed over him. Still, he wasn’t ready to give up just yet.
He picked up a piece with his fork and stretched his hand toward June. "Here... Have some..."
June glanced at the meat before looking at him. He couldn’t help smiling. "You should eat first..."
"No... I want to feed you," Nyx insisted.
June sighed before opening his mouth and allowing Nyx to feed him a few bites. Nyx immediately smiled, looking happy and satisfied with himself.
Then June picked up a piece of meat and stretched his hand toward Nyx. "Here, I’ll feed you too. Say ah..."
"..." Nyx hesitated, staring at the spicy meat before shifting his gaze to June. "I’m really fine..."
"I’m worried. You haven’t eaten anything since we got here, and your stomach is already grumbling. You should at least have a few bites." June paused before adding, "If you don’t, I won’t enjoy our date."
"...."
Nyx blinked before slowly nodding. He didn’t want to disappoint June on their date, so he had no choice but to force himself to endure it.
"Okay..."
He closed his eyes and opened his mouth, allowing June to feed him a piece of meat.
The moment Nyx opened his eyes again, he could feel the heat building inside his mouth. The spice was already spreading across his tongue, and he could practically feel an explosion brewing within him.
June smiled as he picked up another piece. "Here. Eat some more."
Nyx couldn’t say no. He didn’t want to disappoint June, so he continued eating, accepting more bites from him. Despite the burning sensation spreading through his mouth, he was happy to see June smiling with satisfaction as he fed him.
"That’s more like it!" June said, picking up another piece with his fork. "You shouldn’t try so hard to play it cool. Just enjoy yourself..."
However, he suddenly stiffened mid-sentence.
The moment he looked up at Nyx’s face, he was shocked to discover that the man was practically glowing red.
His cheeks were flushed, his ears had turned bright red, and his eyes were beginning to water as he struggled to hold himself together.
June stared at him in confusion. "Are you okay...?"
Nyx was burning up inside. It felt as though a volcano were about to erupt within him, and he was struggling with every ounce of his strength to keep it under control.
"I’m fine... You can feed me more..." Nyx insisted.
But June was beginning to worry that the man might actually explode if he fed him another bite. His face was already so red that he looked like he could burst at any moment.
And just like that, June finally understood what was happening.
"Oh my God! Can’t you handle spicy food?!" he exclaimed, realizing that he’d ordered everything with extra spice!
Nyx immediately shook his head in denial. "No, I’m fine. I..."
But he couldn’t keep up the act any longer.
The spice finally overwhelmed him, and he abruptly reached for his glass of water, gulping it down as quickly as possible.
June watched in horror as Nyx emptied the entire glass. But when it wasn’t enough, Nyx reached for June’s glass and gulped that down, too.
June could only stare at him, growing increasingly worried that something might happen. He felt terrible for not knowing such a basic detail about Nyx. How could someone who wielded the power of flames be unable to handle spicy food?!
Nyx finally finished gulping down both glasses of water on their table, but it did absolutely nothing to help. The spice was still burning him up from the inside, threatening to make him explode at any moment.
At this point, Nyx had to find another solution.
And so, he abruptly sprang to his feet, disrupting the quiet atmosphere of the restaurant.
