The bright red blood dripped down his cheeks, and the deep and narrow eyes exuded a murderous aura that could cover the heavens. This was the most chaotic place in the whole of Las Vegas, so whether he died here or killed others, it would be hard to trace anything back. It seemed that Big Head George wanted to keep him in Las Vegas forever this time.

With a raised leg, the wooden door was kicked open hard, and the scene he saw filled his deep eyes with intense pain and pity. Immediately followed by an overwhelming cold killing aura, like the hardest and coldest frost emitting extremely cold beams in the night.

The slender figure lay on the ground, her shawl thrown close but out of reach because one hand was being stomped on as if a giant nail pinned her to the cold ground. Her body trembled slightly, and with another exertion from the man, her small face would turn even paler, shivering all over due to the great pain. Tears had wet her eyes, her long eyelashes soaked, with intense pain coming from her hand as if the bones were already crushed. Through misty tear-filled eyes, she could still see that figure, the tall and strong figure....

Seeing the door kicked open like that, the man stepping on her looked ferocious, grinding her slender hand with a shoe: "Aaah.......". The rough shoe sole pierced through her delicate hand skin, leaving it bloodied and blurred. Through misty tear-filled eyes, she saw Joshua Hughes rush over like a bolt of lightning, a fierce sweeping kick flipping the man onto the floor. Blood gushed from the mouth of the man in the floral shirt, thick and viscous. Everything happened so quickly; the surrounding people only reacted then. Joshua Hughes grabbed Avery Jane’s hand and rushed away. If it were usual times, these people would have been no problem, but now with her by his side, he could only keep her safe first. He had witnessed too many bloody scenes; bullets neither had eyes nor could he allow any danger to befall her under his protection, so he could only retreat first.

His eyes were cold enough to almost freeze, while the men behind him pursued relentlessly with knives, baseball bats, and hammers. He used his strong arm to hold her petite body securely, shielding her from the blinding light cut across them, the sharp knife sliced through the air, tearing his suit. The tearing pain from his shoulder back was something he couldn’t spare a thought for, only wanting to protect her from all danger with his body. He held Avery tightly, his deep-browed eyes filled with urgency, his voice hoarse: "Don’t be afraid, we can get out soon. You go first....." With her by his side, he had no way to make a move.

Tears glittered in her clear eyes, and her lips trembled unable to speak. Yet Joshua Hughes hardened his heart and pushed her firmly out to the intersection, growling lowly: "Go quickly....." Then he turned coldly, standing backlit at the alley’s mouth, blocking the narrow path. He coldly took off his jacket, undoing the cuff button, rolling up the sleeves of the black shirt to reveal his muscular forearm. His gaze swept over the four approaching people – these people were truly tired of living......

Avery Jane was pushed away, staggering as she retreated toward the intersection, watching him like a mountain, a formidable figure standing there. Tears rolled down in large droplets through her eyes clouded with mist. Joshua Hughes, if you love, why do you still seek other women, why hurt me like that? If you don’t love, why would you consider sacrificing your life for me......

He turned his back on her, with deep wounds at his back, sticky blood seeped through the torn clothes quickly wetting his black shirt. Sharp agony surged from her heart; she thought apart from Lucas Yates, no one else in the world could treat her like this. Yet, this man did the same thing, protecting her wholeheartedly despite putting his life on the line. She really didn’t understand him at all.

The fierce fight was like a beastly battle, soon a few more desperadoes broke through. These people were already dehumanized by drugs and gambling, every move targeting the most fatal spots. His forehead split open from a baseball bat scratch, bright red blood trickled down, even a few drops stained his thick eyelashes, with eyes like black diamonds flickering with intense light. She wanted to rush forward but wondered how she could help, only adding burdens to him.

Damn those scoundrels, Joshua turned red-eyed. Grabbing an assailant’s wrist and forcefully dragged, slamming the hand holding the hammer onto another person. Instantly, fresh blood spurt forth from that person’s face, with the cheekbone sunken in, even the eyes could hardly be seen. Avery Jane watched all these events unfold, her face filled with tears because of extreme fear and shock. She wanted to warn him to be careful; however, her voice seemed bewitched in this night filled with the scent of blood; she couldn’t speak a single word......

"Quickly, over here....." Suddenly crowds emerged behind her, lots of them, she saw Julian Carter leading dozens of men in black rushing over, causing the cries to intertwine rapidly. She shut her eyes scared, her mind filled with those recent bloody and brutal scenes. At this moment, gentle palms embraced her, leaning into her soft black hair. The two quietly embraced at the alley’s violent and blood-saturated entrance; amidst cries and noises, she could still hear each other’s breathing.

"Are you scared........?" His thin lips gently brushed her ear, asking tenderly, as if the fierce and violent man just now wasn’t him.

She still closed her eyes, warm tears invading her eyes again; she wanted to hold back but couldn’t, hot tears mixed with scorching breaths fell onto his chest.

The hospital room, however advanced, still carried a trace of disinfectant smell; Avery Jane’s hand was already bandaged. Joshua Hughes was still getting his wounds stitched. Earlier, he single-handedly blocked more than a dozen people’s frenzied attacks, preventing anyone from harming her at the alley’s mouth. He had several knife wounds, with the longest on his shoulder, needing over twenty stitches. He just sat there, shirtless, letting the doctor clean the wound, eyes fixed on the person sitting across. She quietly watched him, previously always deeming her like a night-blooming cereus, sacred and gentle. But she was continually changing, maybe due to losing a child or too many upheavals, she became more mature, exuding irresistible allure.

She watched his cut-up shirt, large swathes of bright red viscous blood with its strong scent of iron striking the nose, as the doctor cleaned one cotton ball after another. He coldly watched without furrowing his brow at all. Earlier, seeing him wounded, she was so flustered, so flustered, flustered to the point of losing where she was, not knowing what to do.....
