Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1060 - 548: I’m Having Fun, Do You Have a Problem? (2)
The taste of this thing isn’t great; it’s obviously instant. Before, knowing she liked soymilk, the old mansion specially set up a small stone mill, with someone dedicated to grind it by hand. Every soybean was carefully selected, and even the deep-fried dough sticks had a designated master to fry them. Yet, she never seemed to eat so happily.
"It’s convenient and not expensive. This is it, plus this..." Avery Jane pointed at several items on the tray, speaking indistinctly: "All of this is just over ten bucks, actually that’s on the expensive side. Where I used to live, I could get a big bowl of soymilk and dough sticks for only five bucks." For a normal office worker, spending over ten bucks on breakfast is unimaginable; it’s considered a luxury. Unlike him, who has breakfast spread like a full banquet?
"Why did you come to see me so early?" The hashbrown was crispy, dipped in ketchup. She quickly finished one, with a bit sticking to her fingers. She extended her pink little tongue and gently licked her finger, then ate the second one.
Her actions were quite enticing. Joshua Hughes’ rugged Adam’s apple moved slightly, trying hard to suppress the stirring feeling in his lower abdomen, his thin lips parted gently: "Nothing, just wanted to see you." He couldn’t speak about the eight percent matter, believing Avery Jane would help him, but he couldn’t bring himself to ask. He desired a pure and clean relationship between them, free from any interests. How tricky the lawsuit was, he would handle it himself. He didn’t want her to worry a bit.
She ate quickly, then went to the counter to pack a portion. Joshua Hughes frowned; she’s about to go to work, she’s already full, so is this portion meant for Beckett Wright? Avery Jane didn’t notice the soft gaze hidden with a hint of crimson and coldness, carrying a brutal murderous intent...
"Are you taking breakfast for your boss?" Joshua asked while driving.
"Breakfast, and sometimes lunch when it’s too busy to leave the office. Plus, booking flights, sending clothes for dry cleaning, organizing the studio’s cleaning, coordinating his times to meet clients. Basically, I’m a gofer; everything in Beckett Wright’s life has to be arranged." Avery Jane looked at the traffic outside; hopefully, it won’t jam or it’ll be troublesome.
A gofer? Beckett Wright was clever; he gave her enough workload that wasn’t too hard yet cumbersome, allowing her to infiltrate his personal life, subtly merging his life with her work. Retreating to advance seemed quite effective, sending chills down Joshua Hughes’ spine; he should really straighten things up.
Arriving below Beckett Wright’s studio, Joshua Hughes grabbed onto the little girl who was hurriedly trying to get out of the car. His profound eyes locked on her, with a deep and magnetic voice floating in the car: "Dinner together tonight, I’ll pick you up." Even if they can’t be together yet, at least he should keep seeing her every day, and keep a close watch; Beckett Wright is quite troublesome.
Her eyes shone with a gentle, adorable light. She bit her lip, thought for a moment, then nodded, opened the car door, and dashed off the car like a little rabbit...
In Joshua Hughes’ office, the spacious and bright space was filled with a hint of smoke from a battlefield. Luis Hughes stood in Joshua’s new office, having to admit his dear elder brother was indeed very capable. This building had been under construction for a long time, yet no one knew which company was behind it, not until yesterday when the charming English letter "H" symbolizing power and wealth flashed on the building’s outer wall. He then accepted Joshua Hughes had indeed skillfully hollowed out the entire Hughes Clan. Though now he is the top leader of the Hughes Clan, he can’t do much; the accounts have little usable funds, and all the land is mortgaged to the bank, yet that terrifying sum seems to have vanished, dissolved in various projects that can’t be executed.
The entire Hughes Clan is like falling into a swamp, with every struggle sinking further down. Only Joshua Hughes can save the Hughes Clan now, if he wishes. However, he would watch the swamp slowly engulf him, sinking him little by little into the mire, unwilling to reach out his hand, as he wishes him dead. Earlier, he believed it was just a competition between two people, but it seems more than that now. Joshua wishes him dead, not even considering their shared mother and the largely similar blood flowing through them. All along, he just wanted to prove he wasn’t inferior, wanted to take everything from him, from power to women. But only recently discovered, whatever he could obtain was what Joshua disregarded, giving him the opportunity. Luis Hughes bit his lip in hatred, sitting in the vast office, until the door was suddenly pushed open, footsteps advancing inside...
