A scornful smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth as he began to speak: “Luis, today is both the first and the last time I’ll teach you. Do you even have the slightest idea why you’ve never been able to beat me all these years? I dreamed of a day like this since I was less than ten years old. I’ve endured all these years, while you? Since birth, you’ve been cradled in the palms of hands. You think I can inherit the Hughes Family because I’m the eldest son? You’re wrong. At eighteen, I escaped at least twenty waves of top-tier assassins sent by your father. Ask him why he hasn’t considered honoring the ancestors of the Hughes Clan. Even though you became the manager with the Hughes Clan still existing today, do you really think you can handle it? The most glamorous display is always the most dangerous, and you’re simply not someone who can play with danger.”

Joshua Hughes recalled those sins, those conspiracies, those terrifying and cruel deeds that could never be laid out openly, only confined to dark corners.

If he truly considered their close blood ties and didn’t think of that woman, perhaps he ought to ruthlessly exterminate just like Conny Hughes did to his father’s family back then, without the slightest regard for brotherly bonds or familial affection.

Luis Hughes would never truly understand the debt owed to him by his father or the magnitude of his sinful deeds. They are the type that can’t be repaid in a lifetime….

He knew full well the meaning behind those words. It was said that he was nothing but a playboy, only mindful of indulging in pleasures, a weakling who wouldn’t even be able to occupy the position if it was handed to him. This understanding seemed to be correct, didn’t it? He wanted to refute it, but all words were feeble and powerless. He was indeed not as daring as him. However, being exposed and laid bare in reality still made Luis’s face turn ashen.

“Next time we meet, it should be in court. If you can’t afford the lawyer’s fees, you can consider coming to me.” The meaning behind Joshua’s words was exceedingly clear; he didn’t want to speak with him any longer. His sharp, thin lips spoke mildly, each word cutting his dignity like a knife. The surrounding air was stifling like an exceptionally low pressure, nearly suffocating. His deep, pool-like eyes carried a bloodthirsty cruelty as he watched the man with the closest blood relation to him leave with hatred…..

On the same morning, Beckett Wright’s studio was a picture of comfort and ease.

The designer’s studio had impeccable taste, decorated entirely in white with a touch of gray. If only these two tones were used, it would feel slightly oppressive, so Beckett also used frosted silver to blend, making the interior noble and elegant, while silver, black, white, and gold cushions scattered across the large dark gray sofa. A large bouquet of white roses adorned the low table. He looked gently at Avery Jane, who was sitting on the carpet, meticulously organizing various receipts laid out on the table. Her delicate face was more captivating than the roses on the table.

“Avery Jane, we’re going on a business trip to Paris tomorrow, where there is an exhibition showcasing some fine royal jewels from medieval times. I believe you’ll enjoy seeing it.” Beckett walked over from his long design desk as Avery stood up and poured him a cup of coffee: “Am I going too?” She didn’t like flying; the journey was too long.

“Of course, there are a lot of things to deal with there,” Beckett nodded, noticing Avery’s slight furrow of her brows: “What’s wrong, do you have something on your mind?”

A sudden image of Joshua flashed through Avery’s mind; he mentioned picking her up for dinner tonight. Would he be displeased if he found out?

“How many days will we be away?” Avery lifted her clear, water-like eyes to look at Beckett, who was undoubtedly a kind-hearted boss.

“About two days—are you interested in playing around in Paris? If you’re keen to experience the Parisian charm, I’m a great guide.” Beckett smiled at Avery; indeed, this outing was quite optional, but he just wanted to take her out for some playtime. Paris is a place very suited for lovers.

“A great guide? Forget it, where’s the logic in a boss paying an employee’s salary to take them on a trip?” Avery wrinkled her nose, lamenting internally about the lengthy airplane journey and the overall discomfort of sitting for such a long time.
