The vast expanse of a smooth, flawless back appeared youthful and graceful beneath the adorable printed sheets, with the most alluring lines yet retaining a girlish innocence; just looking at her made him nearly lose his mind.

Yesterday she really indulged herself too much, a night of wanton pleasure…

“Get up quickly, Beckett is here to pick me up…” Avery Jane pushed Joshua Hughes’s muscular body; the skin she touched was scorching hot.

His muscles were really hard, making her want to pinch them.

“Why the rush? Paris is right there, it won’t run away.” Joshua’s eyes flickered with a hint of coldness as he heard the doorbell, watching Avery Jane struggle to climb down from the bed with weakened legs, almost unable to walk as if she’s about to collapse.

“Of course you’re not in a hurry, you have a plane; I need to catch a flight, okay?” This man didn’t understand the hardships of the world at all. For him, going anywhere was just a matter of minutes, but it wasn’t the same for her.

Even though she held some shares in the Hughes Clan or received a hefty prize from the Gambling King competition, she just wanted to have her own job, to live a more fulfilling life. How could he possibly understand?

“Alright, alright, it’s my fault, okay? Don’t be mad, okay…” She was really unhappy, sometimes she’d have a bit of morning grumpiness, but today she was genuinely unhappy. He didn’t dare bring up her quitting job directly for fear she’d retaliate too much, as she’s always disliked being controlled, a taboo he used to break. In the future, he still wanted her to live within his domain, but he knew he needed a method, couldn’t force her like before which would only drive her further away.

As she turned to find clothes, Joshua’s deep ocean-like eyes flashed with a layer of cold light.

“You’d feel better after a hot shower; I’ll go greet your boss.” Joshua watched her turn back, wrapped in a quilt, not wanting to face anyone. She was extremely charming, her star-like glowing eyes fixed tightly on his face; she hadn’t gotten angry enough to throw him out, which was satisfying enough for him.

Avery Jane looked at Joshua in shock; she never imagined such a proud man would say something like going out to entertain someone else.

He stroked her cheek, a light smile on his handsome lips, pulled on his trousers, and walked out.

“You didn’t put on your clothes…” Her little hand grabbed his shirt wanting to give it to him, but he’d already strode out, closing the bedroom door. Only when Avery Jane wanted to open the door did she realize she was only wrapped in a thin quilt.

Why isn’t he opening the door?

Could he have overslept? Beckett patiently pressed the doorbell again, and the door was suddenly pulled open. He raised breakfast with a smile: “Avery, guess it’s…” Before he could finish speaking, the warm smile froze on his face as he saw it wasn’t Avery who opened the door, but Joshua.

The man standing at the door regarded him with cold eyes, like two beams of icy light.

This man seemed elegant and indifferent but had sharp intensity; his inherent chilling aura lay deep within him, and couldn’t be provoked or confronted directly, for such a result would be the most horrifying and painful failure.

“She’s in the shower.” His words were simple, making way for a gap to let him in, showing the demeanor of a man in charge.

In the suffocating silence, the room was filled with his scent; masculine, domineering, full of aggressive and invincible aura.

Looking at the bag in Beckett’s hand, Joshua’s long and enchanting eyes narrowed slightly; his thin lips parted lightly: “I should be apologizing to you today, after all, I’m the reason she’s exhausted today.” The bare torso was clearly visible in the morning light with a few red marks, fine and faint, scratched by nails. Beckett’s face went pale; he’d already sensed as much when Joshua opened the door, but seeing those subtle marks made it all the more glaring.

He smiled shallowly, intensely magnetic, watching as the man before him visibly saddened by a single sentence; how fragile he was, how could he dare harbor coveting thoughts towards Avery? How could he want to compete for her?

“I’ll check if she’s done showering, excuse me.” Delivering the final blow to Beckett’s bleeding heart, he opened the bedroom door, leaving the pale-faced man alone in the living room, and walked in…
