Campus Ace Girl
Chapter 1284: Why Hide? We’re an Old Married Couple Now
Chu Ci hung up the phone and turned his head to see Zhao Mo Ran standing at the bathroom door, still wearing the silk nightgown she wore to bed. The light purple looked gentle yet held a hint of purity in the morning light.
He walked over, put an arm around her shoulder, and glanced down: “Done?”
Saying this, he was about to take action when Zhao Mo Ran stepped back and softly asked, “Was it her calling?”
Chu Ci immediately felt disinterest, nodding: “Yes.”
She didn’t say anything more, supporting the door frame and quietly watching him. Chu Ci frowned, “Mo Ran, don’t do this, I’ve told you I will handle it.”
“Is that so.” She smiled faintly: “I trust you.”
Chu Ci searched her face, trying to find her true thoughts, but she always remained so indifferent that he couldn’t see through her, or perhaps he had already seen through her but wanted to find something different.
He laughed at his own silliness…
After a while, he finally said, “I’m not going to the company today, I’ll stay at home with you and Xun Xun. Don’t you want to paint? I can take care of Xun Xun.”
To his surprise, she actually nodded: “I just happen to have to go out.”
Chu Ci frowned: “Why are you going out?”
He knew that she seldom socialized, usually staying at home with the child or painting…
When he asked, she didn’t hide it from him. Walking towards the dressing room, she said, “I’ve arranged to meet Mrs. Wang; she ordered two paintings from me.”
Mrs. Wang?
Chu Ci caught up to her. She was changing clothes, but she didn’t avoid him. Changing clothes while saying, “It’s Lin Hua.”
Chu Ci leaned against the door with a pensive look: “She and Mr. Wang have reconciled?”
“They have reconciled.” Lin Hua put on a floral long dress and then said softly: “Is it strange?”
Chu Ci was moved internally, walking slowly to gently press her shoulder. She unconsciously stepped back a bit upon realization, but he moved faster, quickly turning her around to embrace her from behind, pinning her against the mirror…
Her voice trembled slightly: “Chu Ci?”
His face was close to hers, his voice hoarse, “Why can they do it and we can’t, Mo Ran, I want to be good to you, to live a good life with you.”
She was pressed against the cool mirror, he behind her, her voice shook: “We are different.”
“What’s different?” His hand gently brushed against her cheek.
She lowered her gaze, her long lashes trembling uncontrollably, “They married because of love.”
“Aren’t we?” He shamelessly nudged her ear, which turned a bit red, and he laughed lowly: “You’ve really never liked me? Heartless little vixen.”
She was about seven or eight years younger than him, so he bullied her skillfully. And Zhao Mo Ran simply couldn’t resist his deliberate teasing, her voice trembling: “I have an appointment shortly.”
He did let her go, smiling faintly: “I’ll drive you later.”
She breathed a sigh of relief, “Aren’t you taking care of Xun Xun?”
Chu Ci looked at her: “We have a housekeeper.”
She didn’t say anything more, but he could tell she didn’t really want him to take her, just because she… wanted some freedom outside of marriage. If it were his old temperament, he probably wouldn’t have let her off easily, but now he was different, having a soft spot when loving someone… willing to compromise.
So he nodded: ‘Alright, be careful driving yourself… and, will you come back for lunch?’
She thought for a while: “I probably will.”
Chu Ci smiled slightly, then gently placed his warm palm on her cheek… she was about to retreat but thought and let him be.
Chu Ci smiled again: “Not avoiding anymore? What are you afraid of, this early in the morning I can’t possibly have such good interest.”
The main thing is that ugly little thing around, truly in the way!
Zhao Mo Ran’s face was slightly hot, pushing him away…
She fled rather quickly, Chu Ci chuckled lightly, indifferent, eating breakfast together and after she fed Xun Xun and left with her paintings. As she started the car, Chu Ci, wearing home clothes, knocked on her car window.
Zhao Mo Ran rolled down the window and looked at him: “What’s wrong?”
Chu Ci’s hand was tucked in his pocket, a faint smile: “Drive carefully.”
“You said that just now.” She also smiled lightly, then closed the window and drove off.
Chu Ci stood there watching in the direction of the departing car, his gaze somewhat deep.
He felt he had erred, that he shouldn’t have given Song Yunfei two months, he should take her to the hospital right away… but, in his heart, he also hoped that after two months, it turns out the child wasn’t his.
For the first time, he hesitated.
In the car, Zhao Mo Ran also saw Chu Ci through the rearview mirror, he was standing there as if—
Her eyes dimmed, if Chu Ci wasn’t like that, considering his help to her family, perhaps she would be very grateful to him, yet after marriage life was filled with humiliation and more humiliation… in his eyes she was just a commodity, now saying love, saying affection, it’s too sudden and she doesn’t really care.
The car drove to a high-end café in the city where she had arranged to meet Lin Hua. When she arrived, Lin Hua was already there, Zhao Mo Ran was quite surprised, walking over and softly saying: “Mrs. Wang.”
Lin Hua, though nearing forty, was well-maintained and quite elegant, looked at Zhao Mo Ran with a faint smile: “Come sit. And just call me Sister Lin.”
Zhao Mo Ran smiled shyly and sat down, Lin Hua had already ordered her a glass of lime tea. She was a bit surprised, so Lin Hua smiled and said, “Anxi told me, said you liked this. I thought since you’re nursing the child now, it’s indeed better to drink this.”
“Thank you.” Zhao Mo Ran was a bit nervous initially, but she found it very easy to get along with Lin Hua, who was very approachable, just like Anxi said, and these two paintings were also introduced by Anxi, she felt a bit flattered, after all, Anxi was Luo Lin, her paintings were worth millions, but Lin Hua was willing to spend money to buy hers.
Lin Hua took the paintings, appreciating them, roughly understanding her thoughts, she smiled, “Is it strange why I want to buy your paintings and not invite Anxi to paint?”
Zhao Mo Ran smiled shyly again…
Lin Hua lowered her eyes and smiled, “Because Anxi is rather lazy, she rarely paints over the years, counting only two or three pieces in six or seven years, one was grudgingly given to Jingyao for his birthday, and the other was done with Bo Family’s senior personally pressing her.”
She shook her head as she said this, “You have no idea how mischievous and active Anxi is, she’s simply uncontrollable. If not for Xichen, who knows where she’d have run off over these years.”
Zhao Mo Ran listened intently, and when Lin Hua quieted down, she couldn’t help but ask, “She and Professor Bo…”
“Oh, them, they dragged each other back home.” Lin Hua smiled, “A smooth-sailing romance, makes one a bit envious.”
Saying this, she herself seemed a bit lost in thought…
