Chapter 161: THEY ARE COMING
And when the elevator didn’t stop on their floors, the people under the influence on the upper floors started to move. They took the emergency stairs to chase them.
"This is not good." Lidya then looked at Seara. "Are you okay?"
"Yes." Seara nodded. She tried to keep herself together, though the dreadful feeling around her made her entire body tremble. Her body was cold, and she looked pale.
Jared then took off his jacket and gave it to Seara. "Put this on. It will conceal your scent. I am not sure if it will help."
"Thank you," Seara murmured and then put the jacket on. It was too big for her, and she had to fold the sleeves.
For the last two floors to the parking lot, the scenic glass on the inside of the hospital was replaced by walls that surrounded them so they could stop seeing those people who were staring at them creepily.
However, before they could reach the parking lot, the elevator suddenly stopped, and there was a power outage in the hospital.
"Impossible. You can’t have a power outage here." Leigh was horrified. "They went too far."
Jared signaled to Kayden to hand him his dagger, and when Kayden handed him the dagger, Jared used it to pry open the elevator door.
"I will do it; you pry it open," Kayden said, taking the dagger from Jared. And as Kayden worked to open the door with the dagger, Jared slipped his fingers into the gap and pulled the door open.
"Come on, get out." Jared ushered them out of the elevator. "Jeremy, call Zephyr. Where is he?"
Jeremy tried to call Zephyr, as he was the one who held the phone, but it didn’t go through. "There is no signal," he informed Jared grimly. "I can’t reach them through mindlink, either."
"Me too. They shouldn’t be so far from here." Jared led them to their car. They had to go down one more floor, where Zephyr and Leia were waiting for them.
"Ugh, I shouldn’t have worn my heels," Chloe grumbled, because she was having a hard time running in them.
"Mean it next time; you have said that a few times by now," Leigh said in an irritated tone, and Chloe glared at her.
But suddenly, there was a car that drove toward them. Jared told the others to step aside and kept running, but when it was getting closer, you would immediately know that you were the target as the car swerved and drove toward them.
"Shit!" Lidya took Seara with her, and she pulled her to the side, using the cars nearby as a shield.
The loud metallic sound as it collided was deafening, and Seara screamed, thinking she would be buried under the cars. The glass scattered, and some grazed her cheeks and the backs of her hands, which Jared’s jacket did not cover.
But Lidya shielded her, so she didn’t take the brunt of it. She cradled Seara’s head and covered her as much as possible.
Meanwhile, the other people shifted into their wolf forms, which made it easier for them to avoid the crash.
They were in a power outage, so the surveillance cameras wouldn’t work, thus allowing them to shift without exposing themselves as shifters.
"Are you okay?" Lidya asked when the sound stopped and the shattering glass stopped raining on them.
"Yes." Seara nodded. She was trembling in fear as she looked around her. Because of the deafening sound, Seara was a little bit dizzy and disoriented. "Your leg."
Seara watched in horror as Lidya’s leg was trapped between two cars. Jared was the one who reached them first and then followed by Chloe and Leigh.
"Lidya!" Leigh went to her twin sister.
"Kayden!" Jared called for Kayden, and he came with Jeremy.
It didn’t take long before Jared and Kayden moved the cars out of the way, but Lidya couldn’t heal as quickly as they needed her to be.
"Carry her; I don’t need to be babysat," Jeremy said. He could protect himself, even more now that he had gotten better.
Kayden then carried Lidya on his back, and when they started to run again, this time at least, there were ten cars that started their engines.
"Fuck. Not again." Kayden cursed grimly; he had Lidya on his back, so it was not ideal for him to get into a fight. Moreover, how could he fight someone when they were inside the car?
They were under the influence, so they weren’t scared of anything. In their minds, their only focus was completing the assignment.
Chloe threw away her heels because they would get her killed if she sprained her ankle in an attempt to run away.
"Get there." Jared nodded to the stairs that would lead them to the lower level of the parking lot.
They followed him as the ten cars started moving.
Seara was out of breath, but she still tried to keep up with them. She put her hand over her stomach, pressing the wound there.
Apparently, something sharp had grazed her stomach, but she couldn’t check how deep it was, since they had started running.
She didn’t feel the pain at first, because of the adrenaline, but now, when she was running like this, she felt like dying.
"Hey, are you okay?" Chloe asked when she saw that Seara was out of breath. She followed her hand and yanked it out, where she saw the blood on her palm. "You are injured."
What Chloe said caught everyone’s attention as they descended the stairs.
However, a car suddenly made a U-turn and hit Jared, hurling his body a few meters away, while the other car ran him over.
They didn’t use the car’s headlights, and with the darkness in the parking lot due to the power outage, they were at a significant disadvantage.
"Jared!" Kayden roared. They needed to get to Jared before they killed him.
"They are coming. There are a lot of them," Seara said with a shaking voice.
