Chapter 209: THE PACK HOUSE WAS NO MORE

  • Next Chapter

Seara arrived early to the morning meeting but left after Asher came. This confused the alphas, as she did not stay for the meeting.

They didn’t know what she was doing and thought it was stupid. Asher, however, knew exactly what she was doing and found it funny. He even looked forward to seeing his alphas’ darkened expressions whenever Seara left the room as the meeting was about to start.

"You shouldn’t be too happy to upset your alphas, King Asher," Blake said with a headache.

"You are so wrong," Asher corrected him. "I am not the one who upset them; it was Seara. If you want to complain, you can complain to her."

Blake shuddered at the thought of complaining to Seara about her antics every morning. It came as a surprise that she had a sharp tongue.

And the alphas had stopped complaining whenever she left the room, because she would shut them up with, ’Have you found a better solution without me being here?’

That was all she needed to shut them up.

"You don’t need to peel the apple for me," Lidya said helplessly. "I can do it myself."

"No. I want to do it for you." Seara insisted as she peeled the apple and cut it into a rabbit shape, which made Lidya grimace even more.

"And I am not a child; a normal shape will do, thank you."

"Why not?" Seara plopped a piece of apple into her mouth. "Don’t you feel better seeing this cute shape?"

"No." Lidya shook her head apologetically; she had felt better, and she would be discharged today.

After three days of being hospitalized, she had felt ready to leave this building, and during those days, Seara came every day to chat with her, and so did Leia and Jeremy.

"You don’t need to peel the apple, you know. You can eat it just like that." Jeremy ate the rabbit-shaped apple, but he also ate the apple skin that Seara had peeled off to make his point. "See? It is fine."

"No, of course not. It’s different; the texture is not the same," Seara retorted.

Jeremy was not happy. Sometimes, Seara thought he picked a fight with her and disagreed with anything she was doing simply for the sake of having an argument because he was bored.

Leia had threatened him if he dared to join the warriors who were sent to the conflicted area. They had just arrived here, and the last thing in Leia’s mind was to put her son in the dangerous zone again.

However, the feeling of safety wouldn’t last for long.

Suddenly the building was shaking, as though there was an earthquake, and suddenly they heard a loud explosion in the distance.

And within a second, the calm afternoon turned into mayhem.

"You need to get out of here! They are bombing!" Jared shouted for them to move quickly.

Right at that time, they saw a white light in the distance, and this sight distracted them, as it took their attention away from what Jared had just said.

In the distance, the white light was so bright against the afternoon sun, and in slow motion, it fell to the ground.

The sight of it was like if you could put light into a basin and then pour it down. The brightness was so blinding, and it was deafening when the sound reached them later, rattled the building and their bones, and shattered the glass.

Thankfully, Jeremy was nearby; he immediately grabbed Seara and instinctively covered her with his body before the shattered glass could harm her, since she was closer to him.

Seara curled her body against Jeremy’s automatically, but she still could feel the sharp shard that grazed her cheeks and arms, as their bodies were floating in the air for a while before the two of them crashed down to the floor.

Seara was on top of Jeremy, so he took the brunt.

"Are you okay?" Lidya and Jared rushed toward Seara and Jeremy immediately after it was over, while Leigh checked the aftermath.

"I am fine..." Seara said, still a little disoriented.

"I am not fine," Jeremy groaned. "I think you broke my ribs." He wheezed.

Jared then immediately checked on Jeremy and hit his chest. "You are fine; get up."

Groaning, Jeremy pushed himself into a sitting position. He seemed to forget about what happened until he saw his surroundings, and Leigh spoke with a hint of dread.

"They bombed the pack house," she said, pointing her fingers to the black smoke in the distance.

Because the pack house and the hospital were quite close, the effect could be felt so strongly.

"What?"

All of them immediately went to the window that had lost its glass; wind fluttered in, and the sharp shards were everywhere now. The wind knocked over the vase, the glasses, and whatnot.

"Impossible..." Jared breathed raggedly.

All of them were stunned speechless. They thought they were safe here, but apparently, that was not right either.

At this point, there was no place that was safe for the shifters.

Right before their eyes, they watched their nightmare come to life. The large area that was supposed to be the pack house was now a pile of rubble, along with the surrounding buildings.

From this distance, they couldn’t see everything clearly, because it was difficult to tell amidst the thick black smoke.

"Is... King Asher inside?" Seara asked the question that was in everyone’s minds.

"I don’t know." Jared shook his head.

The morning meeting was done hours ago, and usually, they would do their own thing, but it was difficult to say whether they were still within the pack house or they had gone somewhere else.

But what terrified them was that Asher rarely left the pack house, and it could mean he was there within the rubble.

"Mom is still in the pack house with Kayden," Jeremy said, and then he suddenly dashed out of the room.
