Contract Marriage: Enemies With Benefits
Chapter 7: First lady
A hint of amusement caught in her eyes, "Don’t even think about it... If you play chess with me, you will be stripped bare of all your assets."
"I doubt you have what it takes," he said nonchalantly, with an air of arrogance around him.
"I have been defeating you since I was a child. What are you being so cocky about? You cannot even count the number of times you were in second position in school." She rolled her eyes and looked away.
The man looked at her deeply, "I can."
"Huh? What did you say?" She looked at him, bewildered.
Callahan pointed at the flowers, "Are those for me again?" He reached out towards the bouquet, looking reluctant but gracious.
Sienna was exasperated and she nearly laughed in anger. He would not leave a single chance to embarrass her, "Those roses were a part of the play. And these..." she pulled the flowers back, "are not for you."
Callahan looked relieved, as if he couldn’t be happier about not having to receive more flowers from her.
"_"
"Did you get the receptionist fired?" Sienna asked suddenly.
"Yes."
"Why? You don’t have to meddle in my affairs..."
"You are Mrs. Hawke now. Whether we are married for six months, six years, or six lifetimes, your affairs are my affairs," Callahan made a casual declaration, "And mine are yours."
The affairs of the Hawke Family was not a secret to the public eye. And the high society talked more about them than the normal people did.
In balls or gatherings, Sienna had heard one or more things. As the heir to the Hawkes, Callahan Hawke was personally trained by his grandfather to be a perfectionist.
They said that the man was obsessed with perfection in every aspect of his life. His reputation was pristine, the people he surrounded himself with were flawless and so were his lifestyle or work ethics.
Sienna had limited interaction with Callahan after high school years but if their years of rivalry was anything to go by, she believed that he was just a cocky arrogant bastard. So, she thought people were exaggerating.
But as she looked at him now, the man did not seem to be joking.
’He doesn’t want a speck of dust on his reputation, and he is not going to tolerate it just because he married me.’
...
Magnolia Crest.
When the car entered the gated high-end luxury neighborhood, Sienna was secretly astonished.
It was not just the lavishness of the place that startled her. But it was the fact that Magnolia Crest was not a place that could be bought with just money or influence.
One had to carry a level of authority to be able to own a residence in this neighborhood.
A year ago, Seth had tried endlessly to buy a residence in the Magnolia Crest. But no matter what he tried, they refused to sell it to him.
Ironically, he was a Hawke himself.
But now, Callahan’s car just pulled up in front of one of the most luxurious villas.
When they stepped inside, Sienna was already expecting a row of servants to cover the distance from the main door to the staircase.
But there were only two people waiting for them, an old man who introduced himself as, "I am Thomas, the butler, Young Madam."
And an old woman, who introduced herself as, "I am Jane, the cook, Young Madam."
Sienna was startled by how they addressed her. She could tell that they were both shocked upon seeing her but one look at Callahan, and they addressed her as ’Young Madam’.
He did not even have to open his mouth to tell them that they were married.
The moment they left, Sienna voiced her question.
"You are the first lady to enter this place."
"Hah..." Sienna laughed as she followed the man who ascended the staircase, "I don’t believe that."
"Do you think I am a womanizer?" He looked at her from above his shoulder, as if challenging her to even try saying it.
Womanizer? Sienna hated to admit but that was not a mortal flaw that he possessed. In all these years, she had read many sorts of headlines about him, but not a single one involved women or any romantic affairs.
The only woman he has ever been associated with in a no-hatred-relationship would be his grandfather’s secretary; Olive Ivers. And it was rumored that he had been in love with her for years.
Before yesterday, Sienna took this rumor with a grain of salt. After all, people liked to talk, especially what they were forbidden to talk about.
But making Olive Ivers jealous and active in her relationship with Callahan was one of the core conditions of their contract marriage. So, this rumor was confirmed.
Curious now, Sienna stretched her neck to catch his reaction, "You said I am the first woman to enter your residence... Then, what about Olive? Has she been here before?"
"No."
