Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 478: Please Don’t Take My Sunshine Away
[FROLO]
When Alek got the SOS message from his doctor, he knew something had gone fundamentally wrong.
He should always have known such a day would come because the serum he was being given was wanted by so many people in the criminal underworld.
It was like Aleksandr had the one thing that many wanted but couldn’t exactly get their hands on, and there was only one doctor who had made it.
The formula was in his head.
And that was why he was the most valuable person to Aleksandr. Because if Alek lost him, then shit would go wrong fast.
But then what Aleksandr hadn’t expected was a video call from Sergei Moskowsky.
Sergei.
It was insane, really, because they were not that close.
Aleksandr knew it was a bad idea since the last time Sergei had visited him, he had ended up with a useless arm that no doctor was able to fix. Sergei had made sure Kenzo ruined that arm for Alek.
Which was why Aleksandr wasn’t exactly feeling all sweet and shit when Sergei called him.
Still...
Against his better judgment...
He picked up the call.
Besides, what was the worst that Sergei could do, right?
"Daniil... Oh... Ooh wait... Alekkk!!" Sergei greeted enthusiastically, like he really was having the best of days.
Alek stared at the screen, trying to think of why Sergei had called him.
The man didn’t have blood on him at all, so at least Alek was now confident Sergei wasn’t calling him to brag about someone he had murdered.
Which made him relax because he knew that if Sergei had found his doctor, he wouldn’t have been that calm.
And Alek...
Maybe he shouldn’t have.
Maybe he should have kept his guard up.
"What do you want, Sergei? You already left me with a useless arm," Alek said tiredly, and Sergei stared at him, offended.
You would think that Alek was accusing him of something he hadn’t done, which was crazy because this man was always at some scene of a crime.
"If I knew you would keep whining about it like this, I would have just chopped the arm off. Do you want me to come for it? I made a new friend. A butcher.
"He has bone-cutting blades; I could borrow some and return the blade in an hour before he charges me twenty bucks per hour for overstaying with his butcher blade," Sergei said, intentionally pissing Alek off.
He knew the alpha wasn’t in the mood for all of this, but that was an Alek problem.
Because Sergei was having the time of his life, and he wasn’t about to let go just because Alek was feeling some type of way.
"You left me armless, you psycho!" Alek raged, and Sergei laughed at the outburst.
"And to think you were a politician; what a waste of careers," Sergei huffed in disappointment, and Alek wasn’t in the mood for it all.
Not anymore.
"What do you want, Sergei?" Alek insisted, clearly not in the mood for Sergei’s theatrics.
Everything that came from Sergei’s mouth was unsettling as hell, and Aleksandr wasn’t feeling so giddy about it, really.
He just wanted to nurse his wound and probably his ego because so much was going wrong in his life since he lost an arm.
"You’re so boring. Anyway... I found your doctor... Theo," Sergei said with a hearty smile, like he was spreading love in his call.
Before Alek could ask where the doctor was, even to confirm it, Sergei turned the camera on the doctor, and the sight itself shattered Alek’s heart.
His doctor.
Stuck between his wolf and human form.
His doctor, who had been by his side for years on end.
"What did you do to him?" Alek asked, careful not to piss off Sergei. It was interesting how much he was changing as the call progressed.
"Ah, right... Gimme a moment," Sergei said, setting the phone to the side, but Alek could see what he was doing to the doctor.
It was humiliating to be stuck between forms.
But it was dangerous being stuck between forms, especially around Sergei, who had questions.
"Shift into your wolf, doctor," Sergei said boredly, and the doctor looked at him for approval.
Like he was not sure whether Sergei had said it as a command or if he was risking following the wrong instructions that would end with him even more hurt.
"It’s okay, trust me. Just shift into your wolf. We already practiced this in the past hour. Or do you need extra help?" Sergei asked calmly, and Alek watched with his jaw on the floor.
This man was the devil.
Who the hell even manipulated a wolf mid-shift?
Alek watched, trying to gauge what Sergei was playing at with this show, but even he couldn’t figure it out.
Instead, he had the displeasure of seeing his doctor get the first time as a wolf. It was a massive thing, really, since in Frolo wolves mostly preferred to stay in their human form regardless of how hard it was to survive.
"No..." Alek breathed.
Sergei laughed at the realization on Aleksandr’s face. It was the one thing he had been looking forward to, and now that he could see it, he loved the pure fear on Alek’s face.
He had waited for a while to see it, really, if he was being honest.
"He looks like a mad dog... imagine him being on the streets of Frolo, especially now that he gave me the serum he had created for you, not to mention he has the formula in his head.
"Which means.... If he dies... you are not an alpha anymore, Aleksandr," Sergei said like it was the simplest thing he had managed to figure out in the time since he had been having a chat with Theo.
Sergei was insane; Alek was constantly reminded.
But even this had to be very insane for Sergei Moskowsky, right? Because what the hell was this even supposed to mean for Aleksandr?
"You can’t be serious," Alek said, and Sergei sighed exaggeratedly like a man who was trying to be good, but Alek was constantly trying to push him into a different narrative.
Which was okay...
...Save for the part where Sergei actually didn’t give a shit about so much right now.
"Isn’t this your stash?" Sergei asked as he opened a mini freezer that he had grabbed from the doctor’s office. It was something that he had not expected to find there, really.
But then again, not everyone knew what the hospital manager really did.
Besides, no one expected the man to be an actual doctor, not just a man with management qualifications.
"Sergei, no..." Alek pleaded when the alpha opened the freezer.
Alek knew the serum would be useless if exposed like that, and he couldn’t survive without it.
He wouldn’t be able to handle the weight of so much if the serum was gone.
Sergei stared at him curiously, as if that was the first time he was listening to Aleksandr well.
"Alright, fine. I won’t fuck this shit up for you... but on one condition," Sergei said, staring between the stash, the wolf writhing weakly on the floor, and the man on his screen.
"Anything," Alek said desperately.
"Why did you call my Solnyshka a whore?"
